    Visiting after 2 yrs or more Difference of day and night! I gave 5 stars before and now even 2 stars is a struggle. Poor ambiance, below average food. Never coming back!!

    The always seem understaffed and the staff seems underprepared. That said, i love the ambience and the food. The menu has got shortened and so for a non re meat eating guests, it is a bit of a challenge....that said, if you want a quiet dinner or want to invite somebody special to a special place, Vermilion is one of them...i would strongly recommend that you experiment with the different items in the menu even if they look very common....Vermilion has a way of making the most mundane food interesting, both from a a taste and presentation perspective.

    Our experience was very underwhelming. The photos and the menu on the website look amazing but the restaurant actually misses the mark. The vibe was flat. The dishes we ordered were presented well but the chef added so much of the roasted dry spices to everything that it was impossible to take a bite without a bitter hard cardamom or clove spoiling the taste. The beautiful and bold flavors we were expecting were actually harsh.

    The food here was amazing. This was the best place we ate at in Chicago for a 5 day stay. The artichoke pakoras tasted alive and vibrant - and I don't usually like fried food. The lobster with Goan "gravy' (coconut chutney) was the best thing I've eaten in months. We also liked the cocktails were had. The space is very noisy, and almost bare, but as the evening was too chilly for the only dress I had packed, we were glad it was on the casual side. Service was attentive and helpful.

    We used to go to Vermillion all the time before we had kids (and loved it!). We returned last night for the first time after 10 years to a mostly new menu and decor, and we were so happy to find the same inventive food & drink options, with interesting spices and subtly inventive combinations. Special highlights for us were the charred chile en mole morelos (the best mole sauce we've had in a very long time), the chimichurri naan (fantastic with a sprinkling of sherry vinegar) and the cocktails (the spicy Bollywood and the awesome lychee caiprinha). Also delicious: lobster Portugese with luscious goan gravy and lemon rice, and the slightly spicy tamarind ribs with watermelon salad. Our only regret is that our appetites were not big enough to order even more from the menu.

    Came to dine in because of high recommendation from a friend. Not much for vegetarians in terms of selection. Texture of paneer was not good-tasted like cardboard. Panipoori was very good. Three pepper soup was ok. Disappointed overall with the selections and taste.

    It’s crazy how dead it was on a holiday weekend. Food was good! (a little pricey for what it was) the server was also the hostess and bartender, I did feel bad for him. They were out of a lot of things which is no big deal considering the times now. The decor is out dated and it’s way tooo spacious in there. I think we would order Carry out next time.

    Great customer service. A friend in my dining party left her credit card at the restaurant. An employee went to her AirBnB to return her card because the restaurant was going to be closed on Monday and we ours not be able to pick it up. The employee truly went above and beyond. The food was well seasoned and tasty.

    This seems to have come down a few pegs since our last visit which was admittedly some time ago. The restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday night at 8 PM.

    The bartender, host and waiters were AMAZING. I think there were only two. I wish I knew their names so I could shout them out. Truly excellent!!! The host found a private space for my friend and me. The bartender made excellent drinks and spoke with me while I waited for my friend. They were both very accommodating and kind. They were running the whole operation themselves - excellently I might add. The cook did their thing as well. The food was quite good. Very tasty! I will return.

    While the food was good, the environment was mediocre and the service was awful. It took 30 minutes for us to be waited on in the first place, and another 40 minutes to receive a follow-up. We did not continue with our meal and moved on to another location.

    This is one of the most creative, delicious restaurants in Chicago. A female owner/chef is big too! We went on a Sunday night in mid- April and it was nearly empty. We felt like we had our own private dining experience but simply cannot fathom why it was so empty because the food is out of this world awesome! And our waiter Dominick was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable that he made the experience even better. We are looking for excuses to go again and again. Thank you!

    Run, do not walk, to Vermilion for dinner as soon and as quickly as possible. This was, without question, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Dominic the Manager? An angel among us. The kale? I’ll dream of it the rest of my life. You will love every minute of your experience here.

    The experience was interesting to say the least. Upon arriving, the host didn’t walk us to the table, instead he pointed at a table across the room and told us that’s our table, which is quite rude. However, the waiter was good server none the less. The drinks were great, however there was a drink called the”The Black Fist” that made a mockery of Black Lives Matter movement by highlighting that it’s ingredients are for Social Justice. I still ordered “The Black Fist” and the drink came with a Black Fist (picture below) which was offensive to my friends and I. In the context of an Indian and Latin fusion restaurant, I was disturbed because it feels as it makes a mockery of the Black Lives Matter movement. The Mango mojito is great and would recommend. The food was good for me, but my friends complained of their Brazilian Seafood Dish being too soupy. Overall the experience was okay but the restaurant can use a major overhaul to not disrespect patrons.

    The place was not busy. The metal chairs were uncomfortable. The server was polite but the service level for such a great place was bad. He did not change plates after starters to main course , we had to tell him. He made use use the cutlery. I have been here few times in past five years and I have noticed the service level go down. With mandatory 18% service charge why care seems to be the attitude. We ordered one dish which he when serving the food has not come out good asking us to order another. She had to wait for her food to come while rest ate. There was no proper apology for this incident rather made it sound he was doing a favor. I believe this is a great place to go. The owner needs to supervise and see that service standards become better.

    This is an overpriced restaurant with a decor for a tornado shelter. Servers are polite but come out to serve food plate by plate sometimes their fingers touching the food. They add 18% service charge and then ask for a tip as well. Not going here again.

    We were at Vermilion for Restaurant Week and we all ordered the prix fixe Seafood Platter. It included a four course dinner along with dessert. The soup (a kind of Indian bouillabaisse) and the fried shrimp appetizer were excellent. The main course, halibut in a mole sauce, was not so successful, as the fish was a bit dry and overcooked. I did enjoy the mango flan dessert. Service was on point but not exceptional. Overall, we enjoyed the meal but didn't think it was a great value at $55 a person. I think we'll come back for the regular menu rather than the RW special.

    My friend and I went to Vermilion for Restaurant Week. The food was great, we both got the prix fixe dinners, and our server was very attentive and accommodating. However, the cost ended up being more expensive than all other Restaurant Week menus I've been to due to an 18% service charge on top of gratuity, which was not clearly marked, so we way overpaid in tips. Aside from food, the restaurant felt outdated and tacky – it was empty except for one other table and the music was loud/club-like. Compared to other Indian and Indian-fusion restaurants (I've tried most in the city), it wasn't worth the trip at all. I'd recommend India House or Rooh over this place in a heartbeat!

    Significantly overpriced in my opinion! The food was good, but not good enough to justify the bill. This is not the type of place that includes naan with your meal as part of the cost. Not great.

    It was or first time there and we both agreed we could’ve ate somewhere else. Servers were good. The food and the quality of it was meh at best. Lamb chops were cooked as well and missing some seasoning too! Our drinks and rice was good though.

    Food was quite bad! It seemed it was pre cooked! Bread didn’t seem to go along with Indian food at all. When u mentioned this to staff, they expressed a very non sincere regret! Sorry to have gone there!!😒😒
