   First time and what a surprise. I have passed this restaurant many times on the way to the theater. It was great! Small, delicious, live piano player, low lighting and quick service. I will be back!

   Wonderful food, so exquisitely French. My dinner date and I forgot that we were in NYC! It truly felt like we were in Paris. Live music was impeccable and the ambience was spot on. Best French restaurant in the city!

   Wonderful experience. Great food, service, and atmosphere. The restaurant pays homage to the great Josephine Baker in a delightful 1930s Parisian feel. The wall art depicting Ms. Josephine was special, tasteful, and for some reason comforting. This gem is on West 45th Street in the heart of the theater district. It’s a short cab ride from Lincoln Center. The music Saturday night just added to an enchanted evening.

   It had been years since I’d been to Chez Josephine, when Jean-Claude Baker still held court. It had a special magic then as he greeted you at the door. The staff seems to have maintained his rhythm - we were greeted with alacrity as we arrived early for our post-matinee reservation. Yet without the founder’s brand of magic, it seemed just a bit of a disappointment compared to my past memories. It’s worth going, yet it’s at a price point that I won’t seek it out regularly as I once did when Mr. Baker held court. I wish them well!

    I had the salmon and it was ok, not bad but not great. My son had the shrimp with risotto. The risotto had no flavor and the shrimp could not be cut with a knife they were so rubbery. The waiter kindly took it away and my son chose a bowl of French Onion soup instead of ordering another entree. He enjoyed that!

    Still a charming space, but portions have gotten a lot smaller to the point where we're leaving the restaurant hungry. Not good.

    Great vibes as soon as you walk in . Greeted with a smile and brought to our table right away . Ate downstairs , which was nice , we were right by the piano player but wasn’t too loud . They even sang Happy Birthday to my daughters . Crab cakes were really good . Nice size portions . This was our second time & look Forward to going back again .

    Unfortunately our experience was not good at all. We had read the reviews and came here because they were good. We arrived in plenty of time before our show and told our waiter we need to be out by 6:40. We both had the prix fix. Apps: calamari was excellent, asparagus/prociutto was tasteless. Entrees: skirt steak was average/ok/grizzly, gnocci primavera was awful - gnocci were sweet and had cinnamon and or nutmeg. A server saw my face when were were trying them and kindly offered to replace it wieth just a pasta/veg. Very nice of him but that was also bland. Desserts: apple tart was good, lemon soufflé was a lemon cake that was 50% frozen. Would NOT recommend.

    I was so delighted our online reservation through Open Table complete with special birthday request had been noted and accommodated by the staff without a follow up phone call. The space has been perfectly decorated not only to suit the theme and set the mood, but to dampen the voices in this small space. We sat in the window seat which is a well heated space next to the bar which was busy on this cold Monday in February and we were most comfortable. We could converse easily and still hear the piano being played at the back of the restaurant. The Beef Bourguignon and Duck Confit were offerings on the Prix Fixe, but not the main menu. The menu has a wonderful variety of options - I was quite tempted by the Prix Fixe, but we both opted for the steak. The portions were generous, and the dressings and sauces were perfect. The Rothchild Lafite Bordeaux did not have the body we were looking for, but it was most enjoyable. The pink peppercorn sauce on the perfectly rare filet mignon was not heavy, and the pomme frites were perfectly crisped and salted. Our server Alfredo was attentive throughout, helpful and unobtrusive. It's a friendly vibe living up to the vision and spirit of Ms. Baker, and we look forward to our next visit!

    Special occasion but not expensive. It is always a wow at Chez Josephine. Live piano and singing on Saturday night. Authentic food but won’t break the bank. We love it.

    A dining experience to remember is the best way to describe Chez Josephine. My wife and I celebrated an anniversary there followed by a Broadway show. The location to the theaters was perfect, though after this experience we will be returning just to dine. The venue itself is beautiful, the service outstanding, the food second to none, and the drinks were nothing far from perfect. I'm upset that I've never come before.

    The main host and waiter (unfortunately can’t remember his name but he’s usually always there) was spectacular in giving us the right amount of attention, super generous and concerned with our dining experience. The ambiance in this place is over the top - live piano music (pianist is incredible) - and the soothing colors create such a romantic venue for a first date, anniversary or more. Will definitely become a regular here, their food is delicious!!! Lobster bisque exquisite.
