Seafood
A joint venture from restauranteur Chris Himmel and Executive Chef/Partner Robert Sisca, The Banks is a revival of the New England fish house inspired by generations of Atlantic fishermen who have found their destiny in these rich and treacherous fishing grounds, inspiring New England-style seafood along the way. At The Banks we pay homage to their history, and our fish house is a celebration of their life’s work and the camaraderie of their lives at sea.

Located on the corner of Clarendon and Stuart Streets, The Banks is within walking distance of the South End and Back Bay neighborhoods, including just a short distance from Boston's famous Copley Square.

Food was phenomenal. Service was awful. Never greeted by server. Had to go find someone after sitting there for over 5 minutes. Manager came and took our order and checked on us. Server never came to ask how food was, check on drink refills or even give us our bill

All in all a good dining experience - relatively quiet for a Sunday evening which allowed for conversation and enjoyment of the fine cuisine. Only less positive comment would be about the jalapeno cornbread which was on the dry side.

The clam chowder was really delicious and came with a small buttery dinner roll that was an excellent addition. Both I and my fellow diner had the jumbo scallops. They were delicious, and I liked the risotto with fava beans and peas as the base. There were thinly sliced plums on top which I was not a fan of so I just skipped them. Maybe a tad salty for me, I'm not one to add salt to my meals in general, but still very good. Overall, a great meal and I would absolutely go back.

Nice looking restaurant, decent service, ok food. I had the Tuna which is rare and I expected to be cool in temperature what I didn’t expect was everything else on my plate to be cold. We were a party of everyone else had hot meals, my meal should have been fired last since it required the least amount of cooking but instead I felt mine had been sitting in the warming station until everyone else’s was ready. I was really disappointed since I had read such good reviews I expected something better.

The service here was wonderful. We came in a large group and our server was very kind. We had a blast because he was very patient with us and gave us good suggestions for our meals. The food was great! My personal favorite was the Jumbo Scallops with Risotto and Mushrooms. The scallops were cooked very well. The squid ink spaghetti was also quite good, and even better than we expected. The ambiance was quite nice, we ate here during some rainy weather late at night but that just made it more cozy in there! We had such a good time that we ended up staying until they closed. I’m glad we found this place. We had a very good time.

Food and service top notch, space lovely and comfortable but OMG deafening. Not "energetic" like your survey selection. You know it's crazy loud when you come out onto a busy city street and think that's quiet out there. You need some sound deadening textiles and tech in this space.

The Lobster Roll was $46 and it was a small portion of lobster and some over cooked chips. Not a good value and actually disappointing. The fish and chips was had soggy over batteries fish. The biscuits were dry and over cooked. The salmon crisp was tasteless. The service was ok and it wasn’t even crowded. It’s a nice setting and there are other things on the menu that are better. The New England clam chowder for example is pretty good.

We got the halibut ceviche, salmon crudo, crab cake, octopus and the east coast oysters. The east coast oysters were to die for. The octopus was the best cooked octopus we’ve had and the flavors were amazing. The drinks were light and refreshing. The seating for 2 was a little tight but it felt intimate. The noise level was a little loud and hard to hear but that may have just been because it was a game night and we were close to the kitchen. The restaurant itself did not smell like seafood at all and was clean and maintained so that was a plus. The service was great and the staff was kind. Definitely recommend if you enjoy seafood!

Service was good and the ambiance was nice. The food - I've better; I've had worse. We started with the Spanish octopus - it was not good. The octopus was beyond chewy, the olive tapenade tasted burned, and there was way too much sauce. The grilled potatoes were the star of that dish. We also had the salmon crudo. It was fine. The oranges were sliced too thickly and overpowered the salmon. The lemon oil did not have much of a lemon taste. For entrees, we had the squid ink spaghetti and the halibut. Both were swimming in sauce. The respective sauces overpowered the main protein in each dish. But the halibut and asparagus were cooked perfectly. The crab in the spaghetti was delicate and fresh, and the uni was so tasty. They just didn't need all that sauce. We also ordered a side dish of spring sugar snap peas. As soon as I saw the dish, I knew it was overcooked. Instead of coming in that beautiful bright green hue, they had a yellowy tinge. Again they needed to lay off the sauce. The sugar snap peas did not need to be drenched in the apricot chili sauce. Finally, we shared the creme brulee, which was good. Just the right texture, just the right sweetness. Overall, there needs to be a lighter touch on the dishes. Let the fresh seafood and sides speak for themselves.

Very, very busy night. Served me an iced tea with a dead fly in it. Not a swimming fly or one that just flew in - but dead and decomposing in the iced tea. Told the waitress. She brought me another iced tea. Told her "no thanks" ... Asked for a manager and asked him to ensure they dispose of the iced tea still in the pitcher or container or whatever. Waitress didn't even report the problem. Manager said he would comp our one app. Fine. Said he would pay attention to make sure everything else was ok. Saw him again when paying the check. With all the great fish houses in Boston, sorry won't be back here. It's all how they handled it. Could have been much better. It's a shame as we've been here before and really enjoyed it.

Our experience this past Saturday night was simply incredible. The number of staff that are present to make your experience as enjoyable as possible is impressive. Everyone was so professional and friendly. Our water glasses were constantly being filled and our server checked on us at a perfect pace. Service was A+! The food and drinks were equally delicious. We had the scallop crudo, octopus and rolls as a starter. 10/10...would order these again! The salad was delicious and the greens were so fresh and crisp. In terms of entrees, the baked stuffed lobster, halibut and branzino were all winners. The three of us were so happy that we chose the Banks Fish House before we saw a show at the Lyric across the street. Have no hesitation...this is a restaurant you must experience!
