Very disappointing experience. We have been here before with much better experience. Tonight we ordered homemade egg noodle fettuccine with truffles as one of the special entrees - fair at best. Slow service and not worth waiting.
Sides were the only saving grace (brussel sprouts and truffle mac and cheese). Appetizer grilled calamari and other entree quail at our table was average at best. We will not go back.
The execution on the menu was excellent. The plant-based options and meat dishes all received high marks from our guests. Wine list is somewhat limited, but approachable and well-crafted.
The food used to be good, but now it is becoming boring or not so interesting. The quality of the service is very low, waiters are rude. They took my credit card from the table before bringing the check. The add 20% gratuity directly to my check just because they saw I was foreign. What if I wanted to give them 15-18%? Rude and unkind.
Went to Equinox for their vegan brunch buffet. It was absolutely fantastic. It catered to both the vegans that actually enjoy veggies (veggie forward items) and for others that want either analogs or "regular" brunch foods. I totally recommend this for both vegans and people that just love to brunch.
We received a gift card and had never heard of equinox but decided to use it for our anniversary. In the special requests and comments box on open table I just wrote “anniversary.”
Our waiter was fantastic. Perfectly friendly, knowledgeable, great timing, we felt well taken care of but not imposed upon. He poured my wine heavy to finish the bottle and indulged me in a “half-ish pour” later in the evening because I couldn’t do another full glass.
They didn’t make a deal about the anniversary at all when we came in, which was completely fine, I don’t like a big to-do, but when we ordered dessert they brought us each a glass of champagne, a handwritten card for each one of us, and they brought out the desserts with a candle in each and small happy anniversary chocolate signs in the confections. By that time we had really spent the evening with our waiter end it was a much more comfortable and appropriate gesture for a quieter couple like us.
It was expensive, so better for a special occasion, but we would definitely go back.
Amazing meal. We decided to pick a few appetizers as our dinner. Great decision
I had the quail. It was very, very salty. I was with out of town guests, and chose not to say anything or return the dish. Huge disappointment.
A fantastic vegan brunch. Great value! Will come again often.
One of the best dinners hands down! Excellent and attentive service. Food preparation and presentation was beyond expectations. The freshness and thoughtful cooking techniques awakened the palate! Chef Todd Gray is a culinary genius that will not disappoint.
Delicious food, perfect service
The service was very attentive and accommodating, the food good, not great - very subdued flavors overall. I choose this place because I know it's been around for a while, and I recently learned that they have a fair amount of veggie options. However, I found the menu kind of limited, with the two veggies mains pasta based. My husband pointed out that the decor had a bit of a 70s vibe, but not in that ironic hipster way. I loved the amuse bouche (always a nice touch) and I LOVED that I didn't have to raise my voice to converse. I like my music loud at shows, but I hate to yell when I eat! I will return to try out the vegan brunch.
Went for my husband’s birthday. Everything was perfect. The menu had a good vegan selection for me to chose from while I watched him devour the lamb dish. The service was top notch. This restaurant is definitely on our “must eat here again” list.
Love the idea but was disappointed there were no gluten free items on the menu — bread, a scone, a cracker, or a dessert! Pastry chef brought me some survey which was a nice touch.
As a vegetarian and gluten-free this fits the bill nicely. Enjoyed thoroughly with my group of 6 friends.
Equinox, while pricey, is the best place I have found that can satisfy plant-based and meat-eaters alike. The menu is creative, varied and delicious. The service was outstanding and the room was beautiful.
The chef spoke with us personally about our wants and needs. And he delivered perfectly on our order.
We’ve been to Equinox for cozy dinners and parties big and small for many years now. Equinox never fails to please and impress us, our family, and our friends...........We love it!
Food (eggplant chips with baba ganoush, swordfish) excellent. Service was sub par. Waiter did not show any enthusiasm to explain the menu and answer questions.
Great service and great vegan food! We really enjoy the Sunday Brunch.
My family and I went whole food plant based / vegan in July 2018. I found the Equinox on-line and didn't disappoint -- tremendous brunch, we'll be back. Harvey, Lisa and Sierra
Not a lot of people on a Friday night... Food was good. Appetizers were tiny.
Todd does a wonderful job preparing food with a celebration of vegetables. Deliciously prepared vegetables along with excellent lamb and swordfish. Dont miss the grilled octopus was out of this world fresh!
We indulged for my birthday (truffles!). The food was AMAZING. Perfect ambiance. Understated and elegant. We will definitely be back for small plates and to try the tasting menus. I am also looking forward to trying the vegan Sunday brunch.
A great experience as always! I really look forward to Sunday’s vegan brunch. Every time I have come, I’ve brought a non- vegan and they all loved it. I appreciate the chef’s creativity. I’ve never had anything bad here.
Always an outstanding dining experience and Equinox remains my favorite spot in the entire area. We only have participated in the vegan brunches, but have found it to be the best value in all of D.C.- you will never leave hungry! We were presented with a new creation-a plum soda- that was very original, and the soup and breads and dessert selections are always worth the trip, and I drive TWO HOURS to be part of it all. Sometimes I'm concerned that if word gets out to too many people, the establishment will become so busy that we will never be able to reserve our places and be part of it again, but Todd and Ellen work hard to make sure Equinox remains the top establishment in the area, and thus they surely deserve whatever success comes their way.
Eggplant chips were to die for. Best vegan meal out I’ve ever had.
Very good options for my companion who is a vegetarian. I was thrilled to see Jewish artichokes on the menu and they were as good as I remember from Rome. The main courses were also excellent and reasonably sized. We decided to split a dessert, salted caramel chocolate tart with peanut butter ice cream, a delicious mix of flavors. And best of all, the restaurant is quiet.
Being from the Midwest, a trip to Washington, DC usually includes a dinner at Equinox. It is always a special treat.
Had not been back in six months and tried something different than my usual choice of the pulled chicken salad. Salmon was phenomenal and healthy! Lots of grilled vegetables. Always fun. Service and staff are great! Can't wait to come back.
Super fun to enjoy a fancy vegan meal with my husband ❤️
Tried the tasting menu and every course was a winner
Thoughtful wine pairings added to the experience
Service was a bit rushed at first but settled down to a more relaxed pace after first course
Equinox has been my go-to near the White House restaurant for years. When there isn't a special I crave, I usually go for the pulled chicken salad, but this time I went for the rock shrimp with soba noodles. I'm sorry I did. The shrimp were fried (!!!), small and kind of tasteless. The soba noodles were drenched in sauce. Overall, it was very disappointing.
I loved the hibiscus lemonade, but $6 for lemonade? Really? I landed up paying $35 for a lunch I didn't enjoy very much at all.
The service at Equinox is almost always excellent, and the ambiance and relative quiet is welcome. But the food didn't live up to the restaurant's standards this time. I'm sure I'll be back, but I'll probably stick with the chicken salad.
This is a nice restaurant. Good vegetarian options.
A little expensive for what you get. The service was impeccable though.
Fabulous Brunch! This is a very special restaurant where all food choices can be accommodated. The Vegan Sunday brunch is unique because this restaurant serves meat the rest of the time. I have never had vegan food this good in a Vegan restaurant. The dishes change but everything we had was first rate. The spreads for the Artesian read were exceptional and words can’t do justice to the deserts.
Equinox was a wonderful place to take a couple close friends to celebrate their recently nuptials. The food was phenomenal and the service was great. Excited to come back next time I am in D.C.
This was one of the worst restaurants I ever went to that Open Table recommended. The food and service were awful and it was a buffet, so the waiter and busboy had hardly anything to do. The restaurant was empty and I literally had to get out of my chair to get my ice tea refilled and then to find someone to bring me the check. After I asked for the check, I still waited 10 minutes before I could get leave. Avoid this restaurant!
Fabulous vegan brunch, I was so impressed! I can't wait to come back!
