   I will not go back to this place or even recommend to anybody ever again. I had been to this restaurant previously a few times and food was ok so we decided to take our friends to try it out but we were all very disappointed. Our money was wasted. Quality of food was the worse .... how could you treat you customer like that. Really bad bad food.

   Rooh was a complete disappointment. The restaurant tries to create an image of upscale Indian fusion cuisine, but fails on nearly every level. I ordered the butter chicken, and the two other people in my party ordered the tandoori fish and eggplant dish, along with sides of chana dal, rice, and naan. Absolutely nothing was memorable. The butter chicken was decidedly mediocre- edible, but tasted like every other butter chicken at any strip mall restaurant in any town in America. For $28 (without any sides, rice, naan, or anything else at all included) I expect that butter chicken to be transcendent, with super well balanced flavors. But no, it was just a slightly over cooked boneless chicken thigh slathered in a buttery sauce that tasted just ok. The eggplant dish was also a disappointment- $20 for 2 sides of eggplant drowning in a greasy sauce devoid of flavor. The chana dal- $10 for overcooked chickpeas in a sauce where the only identifiable flavor was cloves, hardly a well balanced dal. Naan and rice were entirely unmemorable- I’ve had much better at small mom and pop shops where an entree costs $12 and automatically comes with a side of naan and rice...The fish was the least pathetic course, but for a bill that totaled over $200 for three people, this place was a joke and an insult. I would never recommend it to anyone.

    My partner and I have been to Rooh 10+ times and have recommended it to friends, family, and business partners from all over the world. With that being said, I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt compelled after an exchange we had with someone working there as we were leaving. Due to Covid requirements there is a time limit, which we understand, however, after we were given our bill by the waiter he told us that we were to pay virtually and he mentioned that he would still be stopping by our table once more after paying. We were under the impression that he was going to pick up the bill, so even though we were over our time limit we still were waiting for our waiter to come back. Unfortunately, before this could happen another man who had not served us and whom I assume must be the manager, immediately came to our table after we paid and told us that he needed the table and that we needed to go. Again, I would like to reiterate that we understand the Covid requirements and we were happy to leave and give up our table, but the way he delivered his message and in such an abrupt way that not only embarrassed us, but left a bad taste in our mouths. I hope that this man understands that he may have lost two devoted customers and hopefully in the future he will work on how he delivers a message because I would hate for you to lose more. I would like to reiterate that our waiter was absolutely amazing and everyone that served us was amazing. The food was wonderful as well and we had ended the night on such a high note that it is very unfortunate we had to have this exchange with the manager (the man in the suit).

    We went to rooh for brunch and ordered vegetarian tacos . they served us fish tacos instead. We are vegetarians and realized while eating that what was served to us wasnt vegetarian. what a start to our day! This is highly irresponsible and should never happen to anyone.

    Our experience at Rooh was not the optimum best. For starters, inspite of a reservation, we ended up waiting for a table for 15 mins,. The hostess, then temporarily sat us at a table by the entrance that was dark and dingy looking, promising us a better table. Finally after another 10-15 mins she moved us to a table that was no better , in a darker corner of the restaurant, with a view of the Kitchen whose door kept getting opened and slammed all the time. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary, which w e mentioned and asked the hostess to seat us at other end of the restaurant, but she made no effort to even try, citing the space restrictions. We ended up waiting for a long time till someone stopped by the table to let us know that we could scan the QR code to look at the menu. By this time we were thoroughly disappointed in the service of this restaurant and really lost our appetite. The only saving grace was the exceptional cashew cake dessert that managed to salvage the evening somehow. For a highly rated restaurant, this was a disappointment when it came to service.

    The food was absolutely incredible. I didn’t taste one bad thing. The service was amazing as well. I made a reservation ahead of time and they sat us by an open door that was windy and 45 degrees.

    The veggie small plate and shared plates were excellent, and the vegetarian entree (fava bean koftas in sauce) was delicious and not overly spiced. However the non-veg entrees (butter chicken and the fish) were a bit overcooked and therefore tasted a bit dry, although their overall flavors were good.

    I have been coming to Rooh since they opened, I happen to live around the corner. The atmosphere is intoxicating, aromatic and almost medical. The food takes traditional Indian cousins and gives it an almost “farm to table”, it’s hard to explain. The spices and flavors are electric. The first time I brought my mom, the chef came to our table and talked with her so patiently about his process and whenever she comes, we have to go there. Just this last Sunday my father, the biggest hard to impress foodie I know, came to visit and having just one chance to impress him I chose to take mim to Rooh. Mission accomplished!!     Amazing! My boyfriend and I decided to do date night and it was absolutely wonderful. Growing up in singapore I’m a snob when it comes to Indian food and ROOH hit the nail on the head with this one. Will most definitely be coming back!!

    The service was horrible.. who ever was in charge of the table seating was inadequate. I requested to be seated indoors and they wanted to seat us outside. They then told us they’re at “full capacity indoors” however we can sit at a high top table instead... does that even make sense? They didn’t want to give up a bigger table as it’s for a bigger party however it wasn’t reserved and we didn’t see anyone else sitting there later that evening. The food was very bland surprisingly for “Indian” food and I’ve been to many Indian restaurants from low end to high end. Jackfruit tacos were okay but nothing special. Cauliflower and Dahi Puri lacked flavour and for their butter chicken they didn’t even ask what level of spice we wanted. We then requested to be “super spicy” and it was barely there. When the service is bad, the food should at least be tasty and flavourful especially for this type of cuisine. I regret cancelling another Indian spot for this. The only thing I can say positively at Rooh is the ambiance is nice, food presentation was pretty and the Negroni tea was good and uniquely in a tea cup. We eat out almost every day, 3 times a day even while travelling for the past few months and this is by far the most disappointing.

    We ordered Dahi Puri, Brioche with chutney, Butter Chicken and Eggplant curry. Everything was just spot on! The service was great as they spaced things out by the perfect amount and the food was prepared very nicely even aesthetically.

    My wife and I went for a special evening at ROOH. We had a fantastic experience all the way from seating, food, ambience and service. The food was superb and sumptuous. We were able to meet and chat with the chef which added another dimension to the experience. We highly recommend it.

    Rooh is overrated for the quality of service and food. I took my girlfriend for her birthday dinner at 8:30pm (reservation were made well in advance) which apparently was also the last call for order time which I had no clue about at the time of booking and neither did the restaurant notify us in advance. The restaurant calls 5 mins before reservation time to confirm we are coming with no mention of last call to order food. The moment we sat at the table, we were told to decide on the food and order immediately since the restaurant will be closing soon so this would be your last chance to order. I had clearly mentioned special occasion birthday dinner in the reservation. So within 10 mins of seating we ordered all our food. In the next 30mins while we were still having dinner, the entire restaurant was shutting down even though their closing time was 10pm. This was a tormenting experience for us. Also the food is delicious but quantity is extremely minimal with steep pricing. If this is the way they are going to mange the restaurant and call it fine dinning, no one will come back. I don’t think I’m going to recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are other Indian restaurants in San Francisco for fine dining with much better service and food quality as well as the ambiance. Not worth going here again at all.

    Allowing dogs to eat with you was really annoying especially since they barked the whole time we were there. Good staff were so rushed and made me nervous. I want a relaxing experience especially given the prices. Really top notch food though.
