La Carnita-John St
Located in the financial district is La Carnita’s South Central location in a beautiful two-story heritage building. The upstairs makes for an engaging venue, seating 55 guests with its own bar.
Awesome food, best tacos I had in a long while and those churros... amazing.
Great food, restaurant was a bit too loud to have a conversation.
Wonderful selections for vegans to eat at and non vegans!
I liked this place just thought we got unlucky with our server. He seemed over it. Otherwise it was good
Best meal and drinks that I’ve had in Toronto. 10/10
Absolutely loved the chips and corn! Can’t wait to go again!!!!
We enjoyed the ambiance of this place. Very casual, easy-going and the noise level is a bit loud but not too loud. Food was fantastic and service was great.
Always a great place for lunch or dinner. Food is delicious and service is outstanding. Don’t forget to buy the kitchen a beer!
The food was atrocious.
Atmosphere was great, food was good, service was mediocre from our server- she seemed annoyed with her job. Also arrived and told the hostess I had an open table reservation- she sat us, and then as we were finishing our meals I had gotten a notification that we “missed our reservation”. I mentioned it to the hostess and she just shrugged her shoulders and said she erased it?
Well, the food is great, but what is with the gangster rap dropping N bombs at a volume so loud you can't even hear yourself think? This was at 4pm in the afternoon, with the music blaring such positive lyrics about some guy ing another guys * then shooting him with his gun, with a bunch of N bombs to go around - is this supposed to be an enriching cultural experience? The music (if you could call it that) became worse and worse. Could not wait to leave.
It was just. OK. Wouldn’t return
Great food, great staff, perfect spot for food after a show.
My favourite restaurant in the city. Never disappoints!
Received appetizers after the tacos ??? They brought extra tacos that we didn’t order and forgot a couple. Waitress did not split bill correctly.
Dinner after a play with family
Table wasn't ready when we arrived so we sat at the bar and had a drink and some chips and dips. Service was great. Had to remind host we were waiting for a table. Once reminded, we were sat right away. Took over 10 minutes for a server to touch base with us after we sat down.
Food is good, not traditional Mexican but tasty.
Good spot for lunch good food dessert was amazing had the key lime pie popsicle a must
Delicious! Went back again because it was so good!
My experience at La Carnita was absolutely terrible. I have been to other locations and was expecting to have a great evening filled with great food and service, as I have experienced before. We ordered guacamole and nachos, the dish came out with a wonderful piece of hair as the centre piece of the guac. I addressed it to the waiter, he responds unapologetically “ yup that’s a hair” and continues to the kitchen to bring us a new plate. We receive our new hairless version of the dish and of course at this point are paranoid and quite frankly disgusted. The rest of our food comes out and was hairless and delicious! Then comes the bill... Usually, if the dish violates health code I expect the restaurant to automatically take it off the cheque, which is what I have always experienced in the past. Not in this situation. I address the fact that I don’t want to pay for it to which the waiter responds “... but I brought you a new one”, I then explain that it still ruined it for us and we ate barely any guacamole because we were just honestly disgusted. He respond, “maybe you should have told me you didn’t want it” - I did... just without a hair thanks. And it concludes with him saying,“how cute so you ate around the imaginary hair”. Overall loved the attitude... not. Will not be going back and do not recommend!
We absolutely LOVE La Carnita! What an amazing restaurant, with a great vibe, amazing food and perfect and friendly service from the staff. The corn is a must try, along with the cod tacos! Delicious! We will be back! An amazing first few months in Toronto, this made it 100x better! Compliments to the Kitchen - From one Chef to another! Kirby (England, UK) and Anthony (South Australia)
This place was amazing. I will be back. The food was flavourful and just the right amount. The atmosphere felt authentic and fun. I had to seek out my own cutlery but it was the lunch rush and everything else was amazing.
The key lime popsicle is a must try.
Great atmosphere although a bit too loud for my liking but great vibe. Staff very attentive and cordial. Food was great overall but a bit pricey for what you get.
Loved the food, the service was perfect. Only issue is the noise level - with the music and noise from other tables, it is very hard to have a conversation.
Welcome to the team lunch for new colleague - lots of options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Food (as always) was spectacular - so fresh and yummY! Despite the restaurant being pretty quiet, our prix fixe lunch plates came out one at a time (as they were prepared) which yes, means hot fresh food for that one individual, but also meant that there was about a 10-15 minute delay between the time the first plate was set down and the time our last team member received their food which is my only complaint about the meal - definitely awkward timing *and* our starters came out after we had already received (and mostly eaten) our mains. So not sure why that happened but timing wise it was not ideal.
Service was good otherwise.
This restaurant is noisy - loud music and very busy/bustling - not a bad thing but just be prepared for it.
Will come back again but probably only with a smaller group so we don't run into this issue with team eating at different times and other people not being fed (or even being able to enjoy starters) until after everyone else finished their meal.
We were in town for the Lion King and made a reservation at this hip establishment. The drinks, although a tad pricey, were delicious and the food, outstanding. The unique taco offerings (our fav was the Baja Shrimp and Carne Asada) were so unique and packed with flavour. The scorpion wings we had as a starter were on point too. Service was fast, food arrived quickly and we didn’t feel rushed out. Although the seating was a bit tight the atmosphere more than made up for it. We will definitely be coming back to this awesome gem! We are already looking forward to our next visit. Advice - make a reservation as this place is very popular and incredibly well located if you are seeing a show at the Prince of Wales theatre.
A lot of the food was cold when it got to us and our server was not very attentive. However, the steak taco was delicious.
Carne asada and shrimp tacos were an absolute delight
Had send a dish back because it smelled .
Chicken was over fried and burnt . Service was nothing short of hostess just getting by her day job and gratuity was charged on group if 5 which includes 2 kids . I would’ve liked the option to choose my percentage at a level of service and food I received . Was a disappointing experience for Father’s Day
Excellent and quick service, as always. Food is delicious!
The only downside to our visit was the constant fire alarm going on in the background. Everything else was great and delicious!
Well priced lunch menu and fast service. would go again
Food was excellent, but service absolutely sucked. Inattentive and our food took about an hour to arrive after ordering... bad day, bad waitress, not sure. It wasn't busy, no excuse
Very noisy place. Waiter forgot about us after taking the order. We never saw him again. Food portions are very small. For the price, you can get larger portions elsewhere. This is not a true Mexican place. I would call it fusion Mexican
We come here a lot. Always delicious. Definitely recommend.
Honestly the food was really great but the one thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is that we reserved seating a week in advance and the location of our table was terrible. It was randomly in the middle of a pathway on the second floor. Every 2 seconds somebody was walking past us which was very disruptive and prevented us from having a good time. As soon as we saw another couple leave we quickly asked to switch seats. Up until that time I was not having a good time.
I was rather disappointed. Service was apathetic at best. Food was OK. In fairness, I didn’t order tacos which is probably what they’re known for. I ordered a salad which was OK. But ridiculously small for a meal size salad. The restaurant was also very very loud. Acoustics are terrible. I probably wouldn’t go back.
Really enjoyed our dinner. Service was very attentive and kind. The food was unbelievable! Will be returning for sure. Pretty dark inside tho something to keep in mind. We liked it, kinda romantic edgy vibe but I can see some not admiring the lack of light as much as us. Great place to bring a date. Loud and not too awkward!
