    Just decided to make an early (5:30pm) reservation at the Vandal on the spur of the moment. Just wanted a light meal instead of our usual feast at the Vandal. Shared the new salad with Qince, Cherries and pistachios and the Hanger Steak Frites with a couple glasses of wine. Everything was outstanding. Service was great. It is nice to have a fine dining restaurant open on a Sunday night.

    Food was creative and perfectly cooked. Loved the use of seasonal vegetables and fruit in balance with the proteins. My wife and I had a late reservation and the entire staff was exeptionally kind, patient, and helpful. We will be back with friends.

    Traveling home from Thanksgiving, we overnighted in Pittsburgh and found this wonderful, welcoming oasis! Great food, a small but incredibly well curated wine list, creative cocktails, caring service. Who could ask for more?! We shall definitely return when we next pass through Pittsburgh.

    The Vandal was outstanding again .Shared the beets and squash Fritti to start. Both had wonderfully complex and balanced flavors. The Pork Chop was by far the best pork chop I have ever had. So tender and perfectly seasoned and sauced. The Pork chop is cooked sous vide to begin which is a great way to cook for tenderness.

    One of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. We go here often and every time the food is exceptional. Unique flavors, impeccable quality, beautiful plating, generous portions. Absolutely worth a visit

    The vandal is one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh! Every time we come here, it’s wonderful. We had a last minute change to our dinner reservation which they were happy to accommodate and they did whatever they could to make us comfortable. Particular highlights were the red tail ridge Pinot noir rose and the squash fritti! I’ll be dreaming of that dish for days.

    There were only 2 other couples so it was quiet. It is a small place, so if it were packed it probably won't be quiet. The food (shrimp cocktail, pork chop, duck breast and frites) were all very good. Pork was tender and tasty. My husband didn't like the mustard vinaigrette and was glad he asked for it on the side. The duck was a little undercooked for my liking. They have an interesting and very limited wine list. Overall, a very clean, modern and small bistro with a small and varied menu.

    Excellent experience! Server was friendly and knowledgeable. We had oysters, chicken rillettes,octopus, beet salad, scallops, beef cheek croquettes,and olive oil cake. Everything was so tasty, with just a little twist to set it apart from the expected. We also tried some different cocktails to add to the experience. Highly recommend!

    The Vandal was fantastic again. Tried the new Squash Fritti which was chock full of great Fall flavors. We shared the Duck Entree with Beets and Figs and it was perfect. The Pumpkin Rice Pudding with Caramel was a perfect ending. Such tasty and heatly food with great service!

    This is the best food in Pittsburgh, hands down. Joey builds complex flavor and texture profiles in all of his dishes with intention to create a cohesive dining experience - including deserts and cocktails!

    I understand that head chef was not there when we ate, but I’m rating our experience. The quality of the duck, the fois toast, and NY steak was lower than normal. I’m giving 3/5 stars on food because we still paid full price. Duck breast was just not good — fat was not rendered properly, tasted very gamey, my wife could only get through half of it. NY Strip Steak was better only because it was doused in fried peppers and onions which were delicious by themselves. Gnochetti was amazing as usual. Fois pate on toast was mediocre; toast was cold; flavors didn’t vibe. Panna cotta was small and average, not smooth and silky — expected more for $11. Drinks were overpriced, and not special (e.g., gin & tonic for $15). Recommendation: cancel your reservation if chef is not there.

    I absolutely adore this place!! It is young and hip. The chef is so creative. Great cocktails. Limited outstanding menu. The owner is friendly and on site. Great service. Especially Pia!!     Great casual place - seated by window on curved padded bench and it was soooo comfortable. Food very fresh and delicious. Great mix of contemporary and cozy! Service couldn't have been better.

    I was looking online for sites that listed innovative and cool restaurants in Pittsburgh and that is how I came upon Vandal. As promised in reviews, the food and service were outstanding, they run a different main menu every night, which is fun, and they have a full desert menu and bar. My only complaint is that their coffee machine was broken so no coffee. Unavoidable but a true 5 star restaurant would have backups, especially since it’s basically next store to a cool coffee shop. This intimate and beautiful restaurant is a little on the pricey side but you can get what you pay for. Exceptional food, ambiance, and service.

    Joey and his whole team at Vandal did an excellent job. All the appetizers were wonderful including a Chanterelle mushroom special that was wonderful. The duck and Swordfish were cooked perfectly as were the burgers. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed them and loved the French fries!! Will definitely be back

    We loved it! We celebrated our wedding anniversary and Joey, our server and owner!! , Made the night so special. We ordered four starters and split the swordfish (delish!!) entree. Everything was so fresh and delicious! We will be back !

    Every time we go to the Vandal we are happy and smiling. This time was no exception. Our friends joined us and were thrilled as well. From the cheerful wait staff all the way up to the owner - we were greeted and attended to with a casual yet very professional demeanor. Although small and intimate in size; the restaurant has a sort of New York or Paris vibe to it. And the food? Nothing in Pittsburgh compares to the quality and uniqueness of each dish! You simply will not find these menu items anywhere else in the city. From old school Southern Italian to quirky Seafood to European favorites - the Vandal will not disappoint. And the cost is reasonable too.

    We ordered quite a few small plates and split the entree. The oysters were great, I would’ve preferred the mignonette chopped a little finer, but we’re still good. Our two favorite plates were the burrata and tuna crudo. They were excellent and the perfect summer dish. I did feel Like both dishes could’ve used just a dash of salt. We also had the wild green gnochetti. The sauce was excellent and the mushrooms were great. I don’t think gnochetti is for me, but the flavors were great. We shared the 8oz steak and frites. The steak was well cooked, but I cared very little for the sauce on it. The flavor felt bland and boring. I would’ve preferred salt/pepper and butter. The fries though were unbelievable. Every fry was cooked perfectly. Maybe best restaurant fries I ever had. Overall it was good. Wouldn’t rush back, but would definitely go back!

    We had a delightful visit to Vandal last Friday evening! The staff was extremely attentive to us. We were treated very well. The food and ambience was also quite delightful. My favorite dish was the shrimp toast, but, the duck was so good as well. We will be back!

    The Vandal was great! Our server informed us that Opentable had informed them that our reservation was our 50th reservation at the Vandal made on Opentable. The Vandal gave us a free bottle of wine in honor of the occasion-so nice! We had the Green Gnochetti with maitake mushrooms and Sherry cream for the first time. It is a perfect dish! Sometimes it is the execution of the cooking of a dish which makes it so special for example the Frites with the Steak Frites, they were perfectly cooked and served at the precise time they should have been served. The polenta cake with Corn sauce and Blueberry sauce was amazing. The corn sauce was salty and sweet and left me begging for more. The Service and ambiance were wonderful.

    Came here for my spouse's birthday. The servers were all friendly and attentive, and the interior was modern. We ordered the shrimp toast and gnochetti for appetizers, which were delicious. The only disappointing aspect was the main course - we ordered the steak and the chicken. The chicken, in particular, had an odd flavor reminiscent of five spice and sugar - not sure what they were trying to do. It came partially undercooked, and after requesting it to be cooked slightly longer, came back completely dry and flavorless. Other than that, our experience was good. Would come back to try other appetizers.
