   Fantastic dinner. Really enjoyed the ambiance and service provided. Gorgeous duck, steak tartare, squid starter and steak frites. Nice pot de crème to share at the end of a very fulfilling meal. Good wine selection.

   The Vandal is really doing something special here. Steak Tartare was phenomenal (fully exceeded expectations) as were the Scallop and Duck mains. Only (tiny) complaint was the oyster selection for oyster night (blue points only?!). Will definitely be back.

   A very nice restaurant in terms of layout and ambiance. Unfortunately, though, most of the dishes were disappointing. The standout dishes were the steak tartare and foie mousse. The shrimp toast was also okay. The extremely disappointing dishes were the steak frites (was it really a ribeye? it was more like a chewy rump steak with zero fat) and the duck breast (overdone). Corkage is $35, which is steep considering the limited wine list. I wish I liked this place, but I was disappointed, to the extent that I wouldn’t recommend it.

   I wrote a review for this booking at the Vandal as soon as I got it on email and it was never posted. the Vandal was great! the Scallops with Sauce Americaine was amazing. The Service was great and the restaurant had a great vibe.

   Wonderful from start to finish! Highly recommend the oysters, mushroom skewer and duck. Great cocktails and wines by the glass. We will be back, next time we are in Pittsburgh. Plan ahead and make a reservation, it’s tiny and intimate.

   I was here before and the food was great, so I brought my friends this time again. What a mistake. The waitress ruined our night. First she wouldn’t let us order appetizers since we waiting on more people. Sit hungry and wait till everyone gets to the table Second she couldn’t take just appetizer order you have to order everything at the same time. We told her we need more time to decide just put an appetizer order in for now, and she warned us that we need to hurry up because time is limited and we only have 1.5 hr for the dinner and on Wednesday nights they are that busy that we would might have to leave without getting our dinner. Third she said when my friend wanted 18 oysters, it’s 12 oysters limit per person and wouldn’t let us order more. While the advertised everywhere 1$ oyster night, no where says anything about any limit, not on the menu not on the website not on instagram. The way she acted and talking to us made us feel not welcomed and after ordering appetizers we decided to go elsewhere where we felt welcomed. The appetizer wasn’t great either. Steak tartar was so plain, no flavor. The mushrooms was ok but nothing speak. The hot tea wasn’t hot. More to same, my 2 previous times I had a different server and he never told me about limit per oysters or if we need to give a whole order at the same time. This time was the worst customer service ever, that even with that good food I don’t want even come back.

    Honestly being in the restaurant biz a very long time. I thought the Ribeye wasn’t prime. It was super chewy, Peppercorn sauce was ok ,FFs good. Crab cake Croquettes were a 5. Mushroom skewers were excellent. Shrimp toast was good, citrus salad,the dressing needed more life. Scallops over salted!! Hey it wasn’t cheap. I expected a lot better.

    They prepared Vegan options for my wife. Service was very good. Place is small with not much seating. Music and ambience was good. Shrimp toast was very good shareable. Mushrooms were good as well. Steak is pricey. Would go back.

    The barrel aged Negronis were great. All the food was very good. My only criticisms would be the chair (no one wants to sit on a flat wood chair) and some effort should be made to prevent the cold air from rushing into the restaurant when guests come/go. Hip crowd. Reasonably priced. Overall a good experience.

    The Vandal was fantastic! Perfect birthday dinner. I had the oysters with the Yuzu mignonette which were outstanding. My wife and I shared the new small plates of Mushroom brochette, foie toast and crab croquettes all new on the menu and outstanding. My wife had her favorite dish, the Caserecce pasta, which we hope does not come off the menu for a long time and I had the gnocchetti a l"Amatiriccana which was new and outstanding. It had just the right amount of heat without being overpowering. The date cake was sublime and the drinks outstanding. Service was friendly and perfect.

    We came here on a date night and it coincidentally was restaurant week in Pittsburgh. I knew the menu when I booked the reservation and did not mind the options. We have never been to The Vandal before. It was super tiny and intimate which I liked but also brought with it a loud noise level so you’ll have that. We sat at the bar because our other option was a tiny two seater table in the middle of a cramped room where my elbows would have hit the person next to me. The bartender waited on us. She did not speak to us unless it was order time for a drink or food. Kinda seemed like she was in a bad mood, which is odd for a bartender since they usually converse with people at the bar and might seem more welcoming. The kitchen is an open concept so the four cooks shoved into a small spot kept evaluating the dining room since it was not busy enough for them to be busy. The food..was unimpressive. I was kinda shocked bc for restaurant week you would think they would wanna impress people coming out and trying new places to want to come back too. The salmon although cooked well, had zero seasoning and was bland. The “side dish” underneath the fish was mostly crunchy bits and a few small potatoes cut in half. Again nothing that would wow anyone or make someone think about coming back to eat. The drinks were prob the better part of the dinner and even those were just alright. Just a disappointing dinner experience and as much as we love Lawrenceville, we won’t try this place again even with their normal menu.

    The duck and swordfish entrees were delicious but the steak was chewy, which was disappointing especially for how expensive it is. Service was great and the server's recommendations were perfect. Burrata with the beets was delicious and so was the tartare, but I'd prefer a finer dice on the tartare personally

    The Vandal was great as always. Glad I had the pork chop for the first time as the server told us it was coming off the menu for the winter menu. It was luscious! I am not a big fan of Creme Brulee, but the Vandal's version was a revelation. The service was perfect.

    The Vandal was sublime. The house was full and the service was perfect. Our server had great knowledge of the wine selections which really helped us. We had our main server, but the other servers and manager helped serve us through the night making everything super smooth and relaxed. We had four smaller plates and desert and the food was wonderful. It was really enjoyable just sitting and watching a restaurant work to perfection with the patrons really enjoying themselves. The Vandal really had a great buzz.

    We had an absolutely fantastic meal at The Vandal. The menu, the wine list, and the service were all top notch. Highly recommend the oysters, ricotta fritters, foie terrine, grilled octopus, and the chocolate torte for dessert. The Amaro and dessert wine selection is unparalleled. We’ll definitely be back!

    As a single diner I was seated at the bar. That gave me a great overview of the open kitchen and the very talented bartender. Overal this was a very exciting night and I would go back whenever I’m back in the city. As a starter I took the octopus which I found a bit over grilled loosing a lot of its taste to just the Smokey taste. Same with the swordfish and clams. The clams came completely dried out on the plate while the swordfish was overdone. It was not bad at all but maybe the kitchen staff would be on point with a few members less. After all the menu isn’t that complicated. Really great night and I know fish is hard but work on the cuisson!
