The Union Oyster House, located on the Freedom Trail, near Faneuil Hall, enjoys the unique distinction of being America's oldest restaurant. This Boston fixture, housed in a building dating back to Pre-Revolutionary days, started serving food in 1826 and has continued ever since with the stalls and oyster bar, where Daniel Webster was a constant customer, in their original positions.

This unique spot in Boston is a must go to!! Of course we got the clam chowder which was delicious and then shared a seafood platter. The place offers so much history and JFK had a famous booth there!

Go for the oysters and sit at the iconic oyster bar! Enjoy the clam chowder (but first check if it is hot)! Take a bit of the cornbread (no complaints there ... while it was warm)! Just don't waste your money on the other items. The food is very poorly seasoned (i.e. not at all) and often comes lukewarm or cold. Even the Scrod (Cod) appeared to have just come from the fridge, given the temp and the water on my plate last night. Servers, Hosts, Oyster shuckers - AWESOME! Friendy, professional, and fast. But how can you win if the kitchen can't meet modern standards and the prices just push the experience into "not worth it". Buyer - beware!

We had a reservation for 8p15. Nobody notified us that the restaurant would close at 9p when making the reservation (maybe there was somewhere small print as an excuse...). Hence, the service was bad, too quick and very fluffy. The bill was presented at 9p without asking for it nor asking if we needed something else, meaning : get out here. The food was ok, oeff... Very big dissapointment for a reference restaurant like the Oyster House. It felt like a tourist experience knowing that we will not come back, so don't bother must be the credo. Not good. Excellent place! Recommended by a friend who used to go to school the Boston University. A little too much bread crumbs on the lazy man’s lobster but overall very good

I had the fried clams...seems like they were smaller than ususal and the bellies were almost non-existent. Are they getting extra tiny calms...I remember having Ipswich clams with large meaty bellies. My partner had shrimp and scallops over rice...stingy with the seafood and too much rice and sauce.

Had guests visiting from Chicago with us. Two of us ordered the “special shrimp scampi”. The dish arrived and was very bland. No garlic in it. Very disappointing. We mentioned it to our waitress who reported that fact to the chef. Restaurant offered to correct the dish. We did not have the time for this. Restaurant brought us one dessert and 4 spoons.

Food was great, service was very slow. Tables arriving after us receiving their food first. Did not seem to be short of staff just disorganization. Disappointed lowest option for tipping was 20% with no choice of deciding how much I wanted to tip.
