We went for my wife's birthday dinner. The $1 oysters we're very good and our $39 and dine experience was also outstanding and a great value. Liv, our waitress, was excellent. All in all a very nice evening!
Great service everywhere! Fabulous food - new menu - loved it! Great haddock and Artisan cheese & meat board. It was the perfect amount even for sharing! We so enjoyed the evening.
Truly one of the nicest venues on the North Shore. The ambience is refined yet the nautical theme lends itself to either casual or formal occasions. The wait staff doesn't appear to turn over much in the dinningroom as we recognize a number of them. And, of course, the setting, by the water, is spectacular, especially on a glorious fall afternoon.
The 1606 is a great location with a fabulous view, especially if the weather is nice as the deck is very conducive to relaxation by the ocean. The menu has never been a favorite draw for us locals. We tried the Sun-Thurs special and it was plenty of food, but the flavor was missing. I got the salmon that I had asked to be done slightly crispy and it was dry and hard, brussel sprouts were also overcooked and lacked flavor. My husband had the bolognese that he said was dry and also lacked flavor. The wings were not cooked enough as they were mushy but flavorful and the wine was ok. All in all, good value and we will try it again!
We always love coming to 1606. Food is always well prepared with excellent, fresh ingredients. Service can vary, but is always agreeable. On the few occasions when we’ve not been happy with something, management has always made it right. Dining room is elegant but not stuffy, the oceanside deck views are fantastic.
One of our favorite places. I was less fond of the new menu. I have Celiac Disease and it was less GF friendly. Our waitperson was not very knowledgeable and though she tried to get info from the chef, it was very vague.
We will still visit, but I feel slightly less GF safe than before.
Service was outstanding! Food and ambiance were amazing. Couldn’t be happier with our lunch. Staff goes above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable
We have eaten in the restaurant several times, and have enjoyed the view and the atmosphere. We met friends for the Wine & Dine special being offered. The wine was very good, dinner selections were great. The service was very good. Everyone in our party really enjoyed their meals, and it was great value! We will be back!
Love the BEAUPORT, but the meal we had Saturday night was just MEH. The chicken entree came out cold-- like literally COLD, and my brother is too nice to ever send anything back. It was like it had been cooked hours before and set outside or in the frig....disappointing. The service was good--a little slow at the beginning, but we were not in a rush, so it was fine to wait for the wine at the table. Will obviously go again, but might just eat at the bar.
Waiter was a nice guy but must have been new. He didn't write down our drink order, and came back a few minutes later to ask again, and then he did write it down. Took a while to be delivered. A waitress stopped by and asked if she could take our food order while we were waiting for the drinks. I said no. We each ordered two shrimp cocktail and a Caesar Salad to share. Seemed a bit long to wait, and then a manager brought out one shrimp cocktail platter with 4 shrimp and the salad, at the same time. Then we waited A LONG time for the entrees. Food was good though.
Beautiful setting. Mediocre food, not up to par. Very ordinary cuisine. Nothing special.
Very lovely ambience. Food creatively crafted, service professional and attentive. Excellent for a special celebration.
We arrived early, able to be seated. Had lunch menu, good variety, beautiful view.
Had fish n chips , lobster flatbread. Very good assortment of beer and wines.
The carrot cake..... loved it.
Wonderful appetizers... Super Service... Great price point... we'd definitely go back!
We ate outdoors for lunch in the shade on a perfect summer day. Great food and drink (try the 1606 martini), great service, ambience and view. Oysters were very fresh, as was the tuna tatare. Caesar salad with white anchovies was lightly dressed topped with some particularly good grilled shrimp.
Went there for lunch on 8/17 and it was absolutely delightful. Was so impressed returned for breakfast on 8/19. Had a 1045 reservation. Was not told it was buffet only until we were seated on deck. Got cup of coffee no cream , sugar , or spoon. We received no cutlery. Went to buffet it was mostly empty trays. Finally after 2o mins asked bus boy inside for silverware as no one outside asked us if we needed anything as we sat with food and no way to eat our limited offerings. Also asked inside busboy if there would be more food brought out to fill empty trays. He told us no , they would be breaking it down in a few minutes. Don’t think you should take a 1045 reservations based on our experience. Place is beautiful, but I would have waited for 1130 for lunch if I knew I was going to pay 33 a person for a bagel and a some yogurt that I had ended up eating with a fork. Feel bad that the busboy had to take the wrath of our experience, but he is the only person we saw. Seated at 1045 in car by 1115. Not the dining experience you expect at such an establishment.
This was for a ladies lunch & I can’t say enough about this place! We sat outside on the deck when the sun came out & one of the staff members immediately set up 2 giant umbrellas to give us some shade!
Our waitress, Janine was a delight! Friendly, timely, courteous, great personality.
We had specialty drinks that were outstanding. Some kind of watermelon margarita!
Wellfleet oysters and a lobster roll for entrees. What more can you ask for overlooking the ocean!
Check out the gift shop & the beautiful nautical decor in the Beauport hotel where this restaurant is located too!
Delicious meal-had the scallops and they were perfection. Service was fine. I was a bit surprised when we said we’d split a salad as our appetizer that we didn’t get 2 fresh plates. Some restaurants will even split the salad for you. We used our bread plates. We ate breakfast there as well and the food and portions were amazing. Again service was ok. Server dripped coffee on my menu (NOT a big deal) but I expected she’d clear it off so it wouldn’t roll into my lap when I picked up the menu, but she didn’t. I’m not a formal restauarant go-er. More of a pub type place, but this was my mom’s 75th bday celebration so I wanted excellent food and memorable. 1606 met our expectations. Would definitely return!
Had dinner and Breakfast there this visit. Have stayed and ate there previously (bar and restaurant). The so-so food and service is masked by the gorgeousness of the hotel and its location at Gloucester Harbor.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at a nice table outside on the deck. Our waiter was fantastic, the food was excellent although we thought the choices were fairly limited.
Fast, polite service, great menu executed perfectly.
The Seafood Stew was excellent! We particularly enjoyed being seated outside on the deck. The view was great and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Our waitress Alexandra was top notch, very knowledgeable about the menu and extremely attentive. She even brought us blankets when it got chilly. I would highly recommend the 1606 for lunch or dinner!
Overall the restaurant was ok. Food was average but you are really going for the view. The bar looked fun but we were with kids so unable to enjoy. If it weren’t for being on the waterfront I wouldn’t even bother going here.
Also we were rushed slightly to turnover the table which is always unpleasant.
I am upset that after receiving confirmation of reservation and told i would get 100 points i got an email after i was at the restaurant saying it wasn’t eligible for points. no explanation given!!!
tried to contact you without success
The outside patio and deck have superb views of Gloucester Harbor and the drinks and appetizers are very good. Unfortunately the 1606 restaurant inside is run by an inexperienced staff and most importantly the food is poor. The menu is uninspired was as is the wine list. The Hotel is a wonderful addition to Gloucester but the restaurant needs a reboot. I would recommend a drink on the deck and then go to one of the much better quality restaurants that the City has to offer.
1606 is an upscale experiment in Gloucester and has much promise. I had a lousy experience this weekend and have to be honest. I am a repeat customer. I've hosted corporate events at the Beauport. I've taken friends and clients to dinner at 1606 multiple times. It is reliably wonderful as long as there is not a big challenging event going on. Then everything is driven by security and fear. The sweet young kids trying to run the front of house can't cope with volume or complexity.
I reserved a table -- requested a view of the Greasy Pole -- 8 weeks before the event. I got a nice confirmation call the week before. Mine was a reunion of 3 couples in their 60's, celebrating our 40 year anniversaries. 4 had flown in from California and Seattle. I know -- they can't guarantee a seat on the deck or the rail for events like this. But I had clearly requested it, it was confirmed, they knew my circumstance and I also came in 2 hours before to check in with the maitre'd and leave a nice little proactive tip. I was not being pushy, just respectfully pursuing a great experience.
When 5/7 of us showed up before our reserved time, they refused to seat us until everyone was there. It was cranky and mean. It was amateur when the hostess at the desk said it was her first day on the job. I am visually impaired and one of my guests is slow because of a knee replacement. We stood watching while they seated walk-in groups at the table meant for us.
We were seated 2 back from the rail. We should've left and let the kids deal with the pushy ones coming from the street.
Beauport, decide who your customer is. Let pros run the host and seating. Rely on gracious communication -- not on interventions by scary looking dudes. This made me sad and embarrassed. I can take "no". But I don't like feeling stupid, punished & mislead.
Your food and drinks are good. We would've spent twice as much/ tipped twice as well if there'd been incentive to stay.
The 1606 Restaurant at the Beauport Hotel does not lack atmosphere! That is #1, but the menu is lacking. They need some entree changes. More “healthy comfort food” selections is a must as they have not had any changes to the menu since opening. No specials either the night we visited. Not good value as my 5 scallops for $28 were underwhelming. Matlybe the tourists will pay that once but the’ll be looking for another Gloucester restaurant that gives more for the money.
It’s a lovely spot but I can’t say that the quality of the food was worth the price. Salmon was over cooked and over sauced.
The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding! My husband and I both enjoyed the delicious and generous lobster roll for lunch. We’ve had lobster rolls throughout New England, and this was among the best we’ve had. Worth every penny! Jody, our server, was friendly and attentive, and we enjoyed the very clean and beautiful setting. We’ll return when we get back to Gloucester.
Disappointed (different than Mothers Day) food was good but different than Mother’s Day
service was fine Enjoyed just the same
Great, fresh brunch buffet with that unbeatable view. Service was attentive, but not obnoxiously so, and the hotel staff was polite and accommodating with respect to an issue with one of our party's vehicles. Overall a fabulous choice for brunch.
Mixed experience, 3.5 stars?
As we were waiting to be seated, the host told the woman walking us to the table to "try to see if they'll agree to a booth first, before offering them a table".... It was 530 on a Tuesday, there were plenty of empty tables.. we politely agreed to a booth over tables...
They seemed in negative moods, wasn't worth it. Although strongly contemplated walking out since we felt sort of unwelcome?
Waitress said she was new but was very friendly and overall nice. Asked for help when she didn't know answers. Waitress was the most pleasant. Food options were good, food was tasty. My gluten sensitivity was accommodated easily for seafood entree.
Creme brulee was said to be gluten free but then came out with a cookie leaning on the side of it. We confirmed we asked for gluten free. The person who brought it out tried to argue it was gluten free...
My partner directly pointed out there is a cookie right there.
A new one was made (we think, looked different). Our waitress was the one who brought it out this time.
I'm keeping activated charcoal by my bedside. Not sure how I feel about their allergen accommodation given the possible poor communication.
The food tasted great. Service was really mixed. 2/7 of cocktails that were listed on menu weren't available. Went for classic drinks instead.
I wish I enjoyed the experience more! since the actual food was good.
Beautiful setting and comfortable room. Menu was interesting. Server not well prepared.
A beautiful Sunday evening supper experience with company from Arizona. The Lobster Ravioli was a hit!
Celebrated our Anniversary out on the deck. The service was excellent. So was the food - with the exception of the lemon tart dessert. Reminded us of Table Talk pie.
Everything was fantastic, the service was great!
We had multiple appetizers, dinner, cocktails and espresso to top it off at the end. Everything came out in a timely manner. A manager stopped by to check on us and he was very friendly. We will be back!
Lovely atmosphere delicious varied food , child yelling fussing and crying nearby the entire meal, so not able to really enjoy the whole experience,,waitress friendly but service was ok, she seemed nice but new to the place.
Beautiful place, great location. Inexperienced servers, waited 20 minutes for our first drink and 15 for 2nd. Not knowledgeable, no specials, limited menu.
We dined at 1606 early on a Saturday evening in late May. The bar was mobbed, but the dining room was not full. Since it was in or nearing graduation and wedding season, there were a few groups among the diners. The dining room space is large and airy with a nautical theme. Very comfortable and good for conversation. The other elements need improvement.
The menu and wine list are both uninspired. Two special entrees were offered, but our server said the salmon special was sold out when we tried to order it at 6:40! Yet one of us could still order the wok-cooked salmon, which was nicely prepared...except for the ball of dirt attached to a sprout of some sort. The scallop entree was unremarkable. Searing the scallops would have helped. We had to ask our server for bread, which was delicious and, for me, the highlight of the meal. Service was friendly, but slow.
Boar meatballs with ricotta and cracked pepper were average and no cracked pepper.
Salmon on succotash was very good. Butter Haddock was also very good, but the cauliflower was over cooked and the mashed cauliflower was 99% potatoes. That and 4 glasses of wine. $110
