I have been going to Far Western since I was a kid living in the area. I now live out of the area and try to get there a couple of times a year when visiting. The food is outstanding and I have never been disappointed. The staff is always very friendly and attentive.

Wonderful lunch! We were there for veterans day and my 97 year old dad was interviewed which he really enjoyed. So nice of you all to honor the veterans!! Loved it!

Food was amazing as always! Service really needs help. It was slow and we still unfortunately waited very long for our food. We have come multiple times and sat outside and had the same problem. Hopefully they can get either more servers or more attentive ones. But again, food NEVER disappoints.

The only problem I had was that the special of the night, Prime Rib was overcooked no matter how you ordered it. I chose not to send it back. It is possible that they did not have a fresh cooked one in the restaurant and just heated up what they had. . The other parts of the meal were very good, appetizer, salad and dessert. My service was outstanding and we were a party of eight. Everyone who ordered the prime rib has the same problem.

Far Western is delightful. Love the western décor. Very comfortable. The food is outstanding with creative sauces created in house. Low key birthday for my Chef hubby. Lovely evening.

From the start...e should have know this was not going to be our typical experience. I made a reservation a week in advance...but when we arrived..our table was not available. So after spending $20 and 30 minutes in the bar, we finally sat down. Our server was fine but the food was off. first, it was lukewarm like it had been sitting and for my dish, the Halibut, the presentation was awful. Picture this...white fish on top of mashed potatoes with a buerre blanc sauce on a white plate. Even vegetables are extra I guess.

At these prices (>$150), I expect more from a restaurant and will think long and hard before I go back.

First time brunch visit to the FWT. Somewhat limited menu and only two off menu specials. One diner had chicken fried steak judged unremarkable, one had the breakfast burrito special which was served warm with warm home fried potatoes. The other two diners had chile rellano from the brunch menu judged "different". Best part of the brunch was the coffee from a Santa Maria roasting company and housemade muffins. Wish I could say we loved the brunch but in truth CJ's in Arroyo Grande does better. Brunch for four with tip was $95. Service was good.

We eat here often and everything is usually very good. We were there 1 ½ hours before our entrees were delivered as ordered. We feel that it was a wait staff issue because the first delivery was cooked perfectly but was barely warm, the second delivery the rack of lamb was still not hot and the filet was over cooked. We asked them to take both meals back and prepare new meals which they did. When they were eventually delivered both meals were hot and cooked to perfection. However, we certainly don't consider this to be a leisurely, fine dining experience. This was brought to managements attention and they did make a minimal adjustment in the total bill, but it certainly didn't compensate for the aggravation!

Fantastic food! The filet mignon just melted in my mouth, and was the best I've had in ages. The ambience was wonderful, too. It was the perfect place to celebrate my 65th birthday!!

Best steak sandwich ever, plus I ask our server for a quiet table and not by children and she was very nice about helping me out with a great booth. My complaint though, is I went into the bar first and ask for a house Cab wine, I was told they were out , so I took another wine on her suggestion. It was $16.10. I should have ask the price up front, or turned it down, but when someone ask for a house wine, they sure don't expect to pay that much. I would have gotten a couple of drinks, and also gotten one for my guest, but not at that price. I would expect a bar in Santa Maria, Ca. to provide a more affordable wine drink for their customers. This isn't New York City. We are in the middle of wineries every where you look, and for the restaurants to ask these kind of prices is absolutely ridiculous. So unfortunately, as much as I like the food, I will not go back, because I like to have a drink before my meal and one with it. Never will I pay 32.00 for my drinks for lunch. It is too bad, because you just can't get a better steak, than at the Far Western. Sorry, but I feel I was taken advantage of and you should provide a house wine at a reasonable price.

7 bucks for a tiny salad was a bit much but the steak made up for it. Just toss a salad in.

This is a new building since I was here last, but the kitchen still puts out some of the best old school steak house food to be found anywhere. The wine list offers offers a competent selection. The ambiance is relaxed, and friendly.

The food was outstanding! No one makes a better steak. My husband had the fillet and I had the lamb and both were so tender you could cut it with a fork. The service was wonderful. We had to wait a little longer than usual for our dinner-not sure why- which is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars for the service.

Our only complaint would be the amount of time before we got our food - about an hour after we ordered.
That the best pork chop I've ever had, also the most expensive.

This restaurant goes back 40 years for us but has moved down the road. The food is still amazing with very flavorful steaks. We didn't think we would ever see Santa Maria beans again but still being served. What a treat!

I grew up in Santa Maria dining regularly at the Far Western when it was in Guadalupe. This was actually the first time I have been to the Far Western since they moved to Orcutt. We took my husband's brother and sister-in-law to dinner and we were embarrassed by the dinner we were served. The rib eye was tough and had no flavor.

We will not be dining at the Far Western in the future.

Our favorite neighborhood restaurant. We were celebrating several birthdays as our excuse to enjoy lunch together. Fortunately we had our favorite waitress to make the get-together even more fun. Never any complaints about the service or the food!

The meals are very costly for what they inclue. Everything is order seperately. And for when paying that much for a steak, it should a least include a salad.

I am very familiar with this restaurant having grown up in the Central Coast area. I had not been to their venue in Orcutt, but was impressed on how they maintained the original Western decor and ambience. The food and service were excellent.

Great cowboy restaurant. Still serving brunch at noon on Saturday--it was great. The waiter was a little too energetic and didn't come back to our table enough, but I think that was just him. The other wait-staff helped us out while he was MIA. Great steak restaurant.

We had been to the Far Western numerous times when it was in Gualupe; first time to the new location. The ambiance was similar and the food and service were great. I recommend the rib eye.

Our server was wonderful. We let him recommend drinks and appetizer selections. He was right on the money! The special was tritip with yummy mashed potatoes. Grilled to perfection!

far western is a top notch restraunt to go to for a Sunday brunch or special occasion.
It has an upscale atmosphere and very good waitresses and waiters.
It is one of the best restaraunts in the area.

I was not impressed with the service. Had to ask for water, and then again had to ask for refill when empty. We were promised bread was coming, but it wasn't showing up and we were halfway through our meal before we had to flag down a waiter to remind him we wanted the bread. In the waiter's defense, he did give a drink free when we had to ask again for bread.

The food was great, the service not so much.

Celebrating a milestone birthday and was delighted with everything . Beautiful venue and the food was excellent . My prime rib was overcooked but I was presented with another that was perfect within just a few minutes . We used to go to the old location in Guadelupe 30 plus years ago. Same excellent food and service .

For 30 years it has been a family tradition to go when family came in from out of town. I am sorry to say that Far Western is not what it use to be. The last time we were there for a family gathering was 2014 and since that time it has really gone down. Service is not what it was and food is not what it was. For someone who was not use to the quality of Far Western when it was in Guadalupe, they would not know the difference. However our family started going there in the 1960's.

Sorry, no, I would not recommend Far Western Tavern any more.
