In every city, there is a natural gathering spot for city folk and neighborhood people in the know. This place in Saint Paul is know as Bennett's Chop & Railhouse. Located on West Seventh & Victoria, it is the perfect meeting place of uptown and downtown, of quiet neighborhood and big city lights.

It's called a chophouse because it specializes in a casual steakhouse atmosphere with top-of-the-line cuts of the finest meats. It is a Rail-house because it is on the old railroad line serving the city and rail drinks (as well as top brands) are served in the convivial atmosphere of the horseshoe bar.

And of course Bennett's is Bennett's because owners Joe and Meghan Bennett ensure that welcoming hospitality is always served. They have taken their decades of experiences with leading hospitality brands and translated it into an intimate venue where you're not only a customer, but more importantly, a welcome guest.

    What a memorable night! Took our neighbors and had to wait a little bit for a table but we didn't mind as Tiffany Bennett, took such amazing care of us! Our food and drinks were fabulous- filet mignon and we shared their chicken pot pie which is to die for! After dinner they had Vingo, which was music video bingo, and it was SO FUN! We had more drinks and had such a blast - what a great surprise! We love the relaxed chill atmosphere... I call it a dive bar supperclub- the best of both worlds! We've been going here for years and tell all our friends how great it is.... you can always depend on the great food, drinks, service & a good time.

    We had a great dinner at Bennett's on Sunday night. The food and service were excellent. The only problem was the noise level was a little too high, and the staff told us they could not turn it down. Despite that, it was a lovely evening, and I will go back soon, especially for the chopped salad and the crab cakes. But almost everything on the menu is great.

    They do what they can with the space they’re in. feels tight in the dining room, spills right into the bar and the front door just dumps right into the dining room. Thought the food was very average.

    It was extremely noisy. It is a small place and it was packed. The problem was that with all the human noise the bartenders felt the need to loudly play music. Asked waitress to have them turn it down because we were under a speaker. They did initially but in a few minutes it was back to loud. I then talked to the hostess, I was very upset at this point, and again asked for the music to be turned down. She was very helpful and asked it we would like to move to a different table which was better. We waited over an hour for our food. Food was good. I would not recommend this place if you want to have dinner and conversation.

    Disappointing! Onion rings overcooked. Risotto was more cheesy rice than creamy risotto. Salad order was mixed up. Paid way too much for a mediocre meal! It was supposed to be a special birthday dinner. Nothing extra was done to acknowledge that.

    Food was terrible for the price. There were only 2 people in our group of 7 who thought their food was okay best. The food looked and tasted like it was made ahead of time and reheated. There were white tablecloths, but if you're going to make it look "high end," then put up a divider to separate things a bit. It just looks odd. The place was dirty and the ceilings need to be painted. The whole place was dark and dated. Please don't let your staff eat in the kitchen where customers can watch. That was another big turn off.

    You can’t really go wrong with the food at Bennett’s. They’re consistent with the offerings and it’s good, casual atmosphere. If I was going to pregame somewhere, this would be a good option

    It was very enjoyable. The staff is warm and friendly. The food is served quickly. They had just had a large group leaving for the Wild Hockey game, and that was handled in a professional manner.

    Overall, it was a great experience. One person in our party needed to eat gluten-free, and there weren't many accommodations for that.

    After some confusion about our reservation (which was a utter disturbing because we were going to a concert after dinner), the staff at Bennett’s made great efforts to make it up to us, including offering a free round of drinks. That was greatly appreciated. We had a great dinner, marred only by a very large, loud party at the next table (about 25 people). We love Bennett’s but always try to go on a quiet night. It was really loud Saturday night.

    This is a nice addition to Hudson’s 2nd Street area. Ambiance is great for any occasion from watching a game, meeting friends or a business or family celebration. A must have are the au gratin potatoes. Our table also had onion rings and spinach artichoke dip - both were very good. A surprise was the molten lava cake! It is definitely a notch above the average.

    Chicken sandwich with fries and an entree salad were delicious and served quickly. Portions were a good size. Server was friendly and attentive. Definitely should be frequenting this place more often!!

    Love their $26 sirloin steak! Always a great cut done perfectly with a crusty outside….the best baked potatoes and house chopped salad…and bonus, their drinks are fabulous and cheap! This is one of our favorite restaurants as the food is so good and just a super casual atmosphere. Our waitress, Emma, was so funny & gave us such great service. We always have a great time here!

    Wonderful neighborhood place where we love to get dinner. If I lived within walking distance I probably would never use my kitchen. The shuttles to various venues for games and concerts is an added bonus!

    Another great dinner last night at Bennett’s. I love the menu, and often have a hard time choosing a dish to order. The only thing I don’t like at Bennett’s is that I have to call and check if there is a concert or hockey game the night I want to dine there. If there is, it is too crowded and noisy.

    Been here many times but tonight food was just not good. Ribs were dry overcooked and cold and the steak we ordered MR was like shoe leather, not sure how a restaurant coined a "chop house" would ever serve a steak cooked this poorly. Very disappointing. Not sure we would go back anytime soon with the food quality being so bad. One positive, the stuffed mushrooms were good as always so at least they got one thing right.

    First time there. The neighborhood looked a little uncertain at first, but we went in to find a lovely little steak house, packed with people enjoying and celebrating. A great neighborhood gem. The tomato soup was incredible. The rest was good, and priced right. And the service was top notch.

    Great martinis was just the right amount of ice on the surface. Excellent appetizers especially the fried sauerkraut eggrolls. Good salad and very good steak sliders. The sliders were the best I’ve had in the Twin Cities including kitchen and rail. The setting is old school and yet cozy. Will definitely go back again.
