Gorgeous view, excellent food, but service was slow. A table behind us that came in after us, seemed to get preferential service and treatment. When our server did arrive, she was charming and saved what was shaping up to be a bad experience. Kudos to her and the chef!
The food was phenomenal. We didn’t get to see buoy the view as it was dark out but the ambiance was very nice as well.
Our service was terrible!
This is a special restaurant
The short ribs were a 10..
We’ve been coming here for years and I think it gets better every time
We enjoy our meals here and the service was excellent!
Amazing dinner! All was wonderful. Highly recommend lobster piccata!
Very enjoyable experience, food is very good!
Lively atmosphere, live piano, lovely!!
We always have a wonderful time dining at On the Verandah..
went for sunday champangne brunch - be sure and book in advance - great prefix menu with ample options - salad bar/soup/food was all superb - it will definately be on our every sunday brunch list while in highlands
We had a wonderful dinner at On The Veranda. Great service and excellent food.
First time here. 6:30p Friday. I told my husband preemptively the reviews were all over the place. We have been to every fine dining spot in the Highlands so figured to try it out.
Like many many many other reviewers, we were disappointed in our entrees. The app and salad course were both delicious. Husband chose the fish special, halibut, and it was mediocre yet better than mine. I chose the grouper and it was not prepared well at all. Chargrilled and bland at best. We had the exact same sides accompanying our dishes which also were bland, cous cous and undercooked veg. Disappointed in the value. Surprised at how this place stays busy..
Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable! We would have loved a lake view but were told those are available based on date of reservation. NOW we know! Lovely dinner anyway.
The grilled oysters were the best we have ever had.
Allen, the wine steward and
bartender was very knowledgeable and creative with cocktails. Food was outstanding in the dining room although we would have preferred being seated in the dining area next to the lake for my birthday celebration. Our server was a little too slow for us but to be fair, they were very busy for the leaf season tourists in town. We decided to have dessert and after-dinner drinks in the bar with the wonderful piano music. That's where we met the friendly Allen and the chef at the end of the evening. Delightful night.
Once again we had a fabulous experience at On the Verandah!
The service was excellent and our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu. I had his suggested special which was the hog snapper with an asian sauce and peppers that was moist and delicious. I did not like the thai rice that accompanied it and all of our brussel sprouts were hard and undercooked. Two guests had the trout w bourbon and pecan which was alittle over cooked and the sauce dominated the delicate fish. The scallops over pasta was a winner. The piano music was a nice touch to enhance a relaxing meal. Eating on the glassed in porch was not available but would ask for that next time. Nice sunset view.
The food was good, but the server was the worst I have ever encountered in a nice restaurant. She took our orders and we never saw her again, even after we asked a busboy to find her for us so we could get a second glass of wine. This restaurant is generally regarded as a good one, but there are lots of good restaurants in the area, so given the quality of service we received I will simply go elsewhere in the future.
We love eat at "On the Veranda" when in Highlands. It's a fantastic atmosphere and the food is always amazing. I definitely recommend eating here on your trip to or through Highlands.
We love this restaurant!!!! Great food and very accommodating...
The food was very good, the service attentive and we enjoyed the view!
Enjoyed our visit here. Good food, good service and a clean house.
Always perfect ! Love the welcoming atmosphere and Leslie is a gem! Very accommodating to our needs.
The food was excellent and beauful view! I had the chicken and my husband had the grouper and they were amazing. The pumpkin pie was the best I’ve ever had!
Delicious meal. Lovely setting.
Four of us celebrated two birthdays. We sat at a lovely table overlooking the lake. The halibut was fresh and amazing. The trout was also excellent. The service was great and our server made our celebration special with some complimentary champagne. An overall wonderful experience.
Dined on the verandah in July and this past weekend. Always great and the best view in Highlands!
There were 6 of us. I had the trout with lemon sauce and it was just okay (lacked seasoning and too lemony) but the other entrees served were outstanding. Piano music was a nice background and the view of the lake is breathtaking.
Excellent view - very scenic. Lovely restaurant with outstanding service. Food was very good as well. Piano and singer in the bar area. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and evening.
Spectacular - ambiance, food, service! I’d go back in a second.
Great dining and impeccable service as always!
On the Verandah is my favorite place to eat in Highlands. I always get the Thai Curry Shrimp and it never disappoints, so good. I usually get several bites of my daughters Ribeye which is a delicious addition.
We celebrated my birthday with dinner at this restaurant. It was splendid. Wonderful service and breathtaking scenery.
The food was creative and delicious!
I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to celebrating many future events here!
Food was absolutely incredible. The server recommended Lobster and it was
one of the best meals I've had...ever!
Service was very good. My only suggestion would be to expand your selection of
wines by the glass.
We visited On the Verandah with our daughter and son-in-law and were seated on the terrace on a perfect summer evening. We enjoyed the view of the water and our waiter (a lovely woman with beautiful blue eyes but I don't remember her name) was just terrific. She recommended a wine that we LOVED and seemed very well versed on the subject. The trout was lovely as was the lamb appetizer and shrimp rolls. YUM. We enjoyed every moment at Verandah and hope to return soon.
Really like the porch area. We had eaten there half a dozen times both inside and outside. The porch and outside area is superb, and the inside area is cozy and intimate with great music. The menu offers an array of options for anyone's desire. The service was great!
We brought our family to Highlands, NC for a vacation and had dinner out on the screened porch with a few down to the lake. The food was a bit on the expensive side but overall had family time and a nice dinner.
This is a wonderful restaurant. It sits on a small lake and and the view is so calming. The food is great and the service impeccable.
The food was mediocre. The piano music was extremely loud. The two of us could not hear each other or carry on a conversation and we were in the next room. Very pricey. Will not recommend to our friends. Nor will we return.
The food was fine: I had the duck. We might have had dessert but you know what? The dessert menu was so dog-earned and stained that it was a real turn off. The waitress left a lot to be desired. She stacked up the plates when we were finished, noisily, a knife dropped on the floor and she left it there. Did she come right back for it? No. She left it there, helped another table and finally came to our table, stepping on the knife until we reminded her it might be dangerous to leave it on the floor. No, we were not staying for dessert.
The piano was a monotonous drone in the background: nothing on line had said there would be music.
As first timers and newbies to the area we would never have known we were feet from the water until after dinner when we walked out to the terrace! Too bad.
No, we will not be recommending On The Veranda.
Terrible experience from the minute we walked in the door. The hostess must have been having a bad night. She was extremely rude. The food was mediocre. The server was good but busy with other tables. The ambience was not what it is cracked up to be. If you don’t sit on the deck near the water, it isn’t worth it.
We had reservations but it didn’t seem to matter. We were seated at a table in the middle of the dining room. Not enjoyable and I don’t care to return.
Hostess was very accommodating since we had to change the time twice to later since we had just finished playing golf.
