We are centrally located off Hwy. 101 in San Rafael, across for the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Marin Civic Center. La Toscana is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant and bar located in Marin County. It was established in 1985 by Paolo Mori, his wife, Marilyn, and Michele Quilici. The owners all grew up in Lucca, Italy and immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1950s. They wanted to create an atmosphere that reminded them of home – a place where locals would gather to eat, meet friends and family and celebrate with food and wine as every Italian family does. Chef and co— owner Giovanni Racanello joined La Toscana in 1986. Paolo and Marilyn’s daughter, Laura Mori Riella, and youngest son, Michael Mori, joined the La Toscana team in 1992 and 2002, respectively. Paolo loved to make people feel welcome and, just like all the Moris, enjoyed his food and wine and loved to see others do the same. This is the proud tradition that La Toscana carries on.

    Food delicious as always and love the new decor. Noise level improved and quite good in the new enclosed area. Been dining here for 25 years and never had a bad meal!!

    Only thing that wasn’t great was the Risotto. Other than that, the place and service were nice. Outside of building is very nondescript.

    What a pleasant find! The food was great. The hostess was very kind as we were almost an hour late due to rain and traffic on a Friday night. We did call sporadically to update the restaurant on our tardiness. They put us at ease which made the whole experience better. Great sourdough bread, lasagna and spaghetti with meatballs. The dessert brownie with marshmallow cream should not be missed.

    This has been one of my wife and my favorite restaurants over many years. The staff are welcoming, courteous, and very attentive. It’s definitely worth the trip down from Petaluma.

    La Toscana was an amazing find. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. We enjoyed a Caesar Salad, my husband commented that it was the best he had ever tasted, followed by Lasagne, and I had one of the specials, butternut squash ravioli with a brown butter sauce. We agreed that each was exceptional. We indulged in a dessert special, Pumpkin Crème Brûlée, and left the restaurant knowing that we will return as often as we are in the area.

    Late lunch with a cocktail and antipasto plate followed by the cannelloni can't be beat. Kind service, attentive, great ambience. Can be loud during peak times, but that just shows how popular it is.

    It was my birthday, and my friends took me out to dinner to celebrate. The food was perfect. Delicious and healthy, with just the perfect light touch with butter, oil, and salt. The wine was scrumptious. The noise level was moderate and festive while not too noisy and we could all hear one another. I have decided that I love this restaurant! The only trouble was that there were so many diners that it was surprisingly difficult to find a street parking spot, even though it was just a Tuesday night dinner! We will definitely come again!

    If you’re looking for a quiet atmosphere don’t go to this ristorante on a Friday or Saturday evening. It is good food and The menu is extensive with special dishes on the menu. There is a full service bar. Parking is free and availability of spaces is okay. The noise level in the main dining room is so loud that it is impossible to hear someone across from you. Nice paintings on the walls and pretty lights all over add sparkle and the feeling of Tuscany

    Charming Italian restaurant for locals, groups, and business meetings for the area. Active car. Attentive service. They seem to accommodate substitutions with sauces which is helpful. Note a split fee charge if you share a salad. My guests loves the burger.

    Service was excellent for 6 people. No extra charges that some restaurants are charging such as if you use a credit card or a % to employee fund, etc. All their pastas are good.

    Another lovely gathering at La Toscana. We can always rely on this place. Yes, it can be very busy and the noise level can get up there, but both are acceptable "by products" for great food and service.

    I’ve been coming to the restaurant for years and have always enjoyed the service, food, and seating. What is also so very nice is being familiar with the Waite staff who have been there many years. We wanted for nothing.

    We’ve been eating at La Toscana for many years. The food is consistently great. Everyone who works there is competent and friendly. The owners have redecorated and improved the ambiance over the years. It’s a well oiled machine. Neighborhood gem!

    We loved this restaurant and had many wonderful meals until Covid happened. Being high risk we rarely eat out unless there’s outdoor dining. To my surprise I discovered La Toscana has wonderful outdoor seating! We immediately booked a dinner and it was amazing. The carpaccio is delicious (we personally didn’t care for the arancini balls) but the Caesar more than made up for it. I had the spicy vodka sauce pasta with shrimp added (everything was perfectly cooked and flavorful). The sauce had just enough heat to know it’s there but not to overwhelm. My husband had the pasta with wild boar sauce and throughly enjoyed it. We split cannoli’s and the salted butterscotch dessert. Our favorite was the cannoli but the butterscotch dessert wasn’t left uneaten. Our cocktails and wine were well done and enjoyable. The dining environment is pleasant with a fountain and plenty of space between tables. Heating elements are in place should the weather change. The only slight drawback was the freeway noise was there but not so much as to interfere with conversation. Our servers were wonderful, efficient and friendly. Another wonderful meal! I highly recommend this restaurant.

    The food was delicious (or I was very hungry). We were there late on a Saturday, the restaurant was nearly empty so very quiet, don't know how it is when it's busy. I had the sole and it was perfectly prepared.

    My wife and I ate at this beautiful and inviting restaurant. I had the Pasta Carbonara, she had the Chicken Marsala. Both items were outstanding and fresh tasting. Ambience was very nice, as was the attentive service. We will definitely be back when we travel here again. Thank you!
