   Met with a colleague for a work lunch. I ordered the pear and goat cheese tartine which ended up being 2 pieces of toasted bread with a jam-like substance and thinly sliced pear. It was a challenge to eat and I was disappointed. Service was very friendly though and the views are nice.

   Yesterday, my husband and I took my father to lunch at Green's. The server was lovely, genuinely pleasant and concerned and this review is not about her. When I made the reservation on OpenTable, I indicated that we wanted a cake with candles brought out at the end of the lunch. To be doubly sure that this would be taken care of, I called Green's 2 days before our reservation and the woman to whom I spoke was very short with me and said she couldn't tell me if those instructions had been received, nor could she add the note herself. I asked if it was because there were too many kinds of cake and she said yes. She added that we could not have a cake, but only a slice because Greens was "between pastry chefs". She said to go to Greens website and call back. As per her suggestion, I went to Greens website, but couldn't find the dessert menu. I found a dessert menu for Greens at ineons.com>GreensRestaurant>catalog and called back. I got voicemail and left a message stating what cake we wanted. Towards the end of the lunch (the potato and pesto pizza gave my husband and upset stomach), it was obvious that the server had been told nothing about the cake/candle that had been requested. I asked to speak to her alone and asked her if we could have a slice of cake with a candle in it. This was the first she had hear of this, but she was very gracious and made suggestions for the best kind of cake for the occasion. The bill for the lunch (and we have eaten at Greens previously) was staggering. My husband had the aforementioned personal pizza, my father had Paprikash stew, I had toast and potatoes (on medical bland diet- not Greens fault, but the potatoes were swimming in oil and barely edible) and my father had coffee. The bill for toast, potatoes, a personal pizza, stew and coffee was over $130. That is absurd.

    We had a problem getting a reservation for 6 At the last minute—-food out of another era…. My 59 year old son said ‘old school’ He was So right! I am old so I guess it was fitting! Soup and veggie rolls were good—all else not good

    Three of us had lunch and loved it. Kathy our waitress was terrific. Helped us choose great food and was very attentive. We all loved her! Hadn’t been to Green’s in years and will definitely be back!

    Nice ambience, beautiful tree seats, but uncomfortable - our legs hurt when we finished our meal. We dislike the waiter's attitude, pushy. He asked to place the order at once rather than let us order as we wish. The Pisco drink could be better, not much flavor and very acidic. The entries were nice, we loved the artichokes and the spring rolls were fine. The cabbage dish was tasty, but too greasy. My date ordered the stew, he did not like it. I ordered the grilled tofu and it was not grilled, the taste was very rubbery and it lacked flavor. The worst part was that the full made us feel very uncomfortable, our stomachs bloated and we had a bad case of flatulence. We do not recommend this place if you are going on a date! Sorry Charlie.

    For decades we've enjoyed dining at Greens but our recent experience was a complete 180 degree turnaround. The food was wretched and expensive. Service was slow, sloppy and indifferent. We didn't even order alcohol and the bill for 6 approached $600 including gratuity. We'll likely NEVER return. We just felt yucky and foolish afterward.

    As a regular to this restaurant I have a benchmark for dining here. The customer service given by the host booking us in was non existent. Having requested a window table we were seated basically in the waiting area far away from a window as possible, and as the front doors were wide open we had to wear our coats to keep warm. I asked on several occasions to be moved away from the door and I was told that as they were short staffed, the server in the section I wanted to be moved to (and not to a window seat at this stage) could not serve us. However, within 5 mins of my request 3 other couples were seated in that same area! I asked two different staff members to speak to the manager and after about 15 mins she come out to speak to me. Reluctantly, she agreed to move us, but we had to return to the waiting area for a further 10 mins rather than being taken directly to the table which was already cleaned at set. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect to dine without wearing a winter coat! I honestly believe the staff were angling for us to leave! The food when we eventually got to eat was tasty.

    The food was good but I felt it could have been more creative and had more seasoning, bit bland. The big highlight for me was actually the dessert, which was flavorful and a delightful mix of flavors. Though the restaurant was not full they sat us directly next to another couple who had just been seated, and it felt like we were dining with them because of how close the tables were. The lighting at our table was also extremely bright (spotlight right above) and they had the doors open so the restaurant was very cold. I shivered through the whole meal which was not ideal. The staff were all very friendly, so I would try it again.

    Everything was wonderful! Our server, Mammi, described each food choice in detail when asked. The food tasted great. We could hear ourselves talk without raising our voices. Best of all, was the wonderful view out the windows.

    A wonderful place to dine on a stormy San Francisco Day. Our server, Cathy, was excellent. We all enjoyed our food, and the portions were so large that we had to request take out boxes for leftovers.

    We were celebrating 2 BD’s. We were welcomed I and seated promptly at a window table w/the gorgeous view of the GGB, what a magnificent way to start off our evening of celebrations! The food was still as delicious as I’ve always remembered it, I’ve lived here since ‘79 and have been here many times and as always, the food was OUTSTANDING!! I have never had a meal that wasn’t superb and beautifully presented at Greens. We couldn’t have asked for more, everything was next level. Thanks for always maintaining the high standards of everything at Greens, it shows what a well oiled machine can do when well run and when the standards are kept high throughout the years. We all agreed it was a very special evening, thanks so much for being a part of it and making it all happen!

    The vegetarian options are unparalleled and really delicious. The sweet potato gratin was amazing. The chocolate cake was scrumptious. We went fairly late ...about 8pm and sat outside. I would not recommend sitting outside at 8. The waitress was nice but a bit slow...which was fine for us. Apparently not so fine for the crew that decided to take the heaters away at 9:15pm... We understand they want to go home...but dude the waitress tacked on at least 45 minutes by being super slow to come to table at each course..we didn't mind..really...but the staff were clearly not on the same page as we then ended up freezing our butts off when they decided they'd take the heaters away . Either the waitress needed to speed up or the staff needed to cut us some slack as it wasn't really our fault for being so slow. I suggest eating indoors to avoid that whole drama. I bet you get faster service indoors ...you really can't get any better vegetarian food in California so it's definitely worth coming here regardless.

    My review is mostly focused on the food. We had the gluten free seeded bread, green gulch salad, rice griddle cakes, sweet potato gratin and the vegetable stew. The bread didn’t stand out on its own and needed butter to taste like anything. It had an interesting texture nothing else about it stuck out. It would be nice if it came with some accoutrements like cheese or something that could be eat with it. The green gulch salad was good but the dressing was not what I expected. It had a bitter spicy flavor that although interesting, I would not try again. The rice griddle cakes had an excellent miso umami flavor but I’m not sure they were very healthy. The gratin was excellent and I think carried the whole meal. It would have been nice to have a different side than the salad it came with or no side at all. The vegetable stew was nice. It came with pickled kale and rice sides. I would have just preferred the stew on its own.

    I remember having an excellent lunch some years ago. However, our lunch was a great disappointment. The food was tasteless-bland actually. I was told the restaurant had made staff changes recently. I am not one to criticize an establishment when things go a bit amiss, but I must express my dissatisfaction with the quality of food that was presented to us. I will not recommend Greens in future.

    Greens used to be special. The appetizers were good but entrees were just so,so. The wine list is only ok and wait staff distracted and going through the motions.
