What Insiders Are Saying
Marea is about as good as upscale eating gets in Midtown, and there’s a lot of that around. Don’t miss the bone marrow and octopus fusilli.
The clam calamari spaghetti was lacking taste. The jumbo crabmeat pasta dish was lacking crabmeat.
Amazing experience at the restaurant, good service, good food and wine. I recommend!
Our waiter Michael (Mike D.) is the most knowledgeable and helpful waiter! And personable! Made our return to Marea so special.
We were in NYC to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Marea is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is always delicious and the service is excellent. Our server tonight was Darnel, she was wonderful...gave us suggestions when we asked and was a pleasure to get to know. We would definitely ask for her to be our server when we return.
One of the most interesting and finest dinners I have had.
Excellent. Simply Excellent. The service, the food, the wine list, the atmosphere combine to make Marea one of NYC's finest dining experiences. Very much enjoyed a leisurely lunch in a fully filled, but nevertheless reasonably quiet, upscale venue. Seafood obviously the specialty, but other menu choices presented. Had one of the best gnochetti plates ever, anywhere.
Went for an early dinner after a Saturday matinee at Lincoln Center. The food was impeccable - as beautiful on the plate as it was delicious to taste. We will come again.
This has been and still is a favorite of mine. The food is always exceptional, whether I am alone at the bar, with a client or with my daughter (and it is her favorite as well). I have my regular faves like the polipo, lobster burrito, fusili. I just had a new pasta with lobster in it and it was great. I have had scallops at Marea and other daily specials. Everything is just always so good. Nice wine list. Ben at the bar makes an awesome cocktail. The staff makes everyone feel special and I always am assured of a great meal and a great evening. Also, everyone that I have referred, have always thanked me and also had wonderful dining experiences.
Amazing experience! Flavors and service 10/10!
Somos 3 de mi familia. Estuvo excelente el lugar. La comida muy recomendable, el ambiente un poco mas volumen del deseado, pero el servicio... ese fué extraordinario.
Impeccable service and exquisite food! Fine dining at its finest.
Enjoyed dinner with my wife. Excellent food and the ambience is great. Will include on my preferred list of restaurants along 11 Madison, Le Bernadin and Daniel.
Once again we loved our experience at Marea in every way. So lovely, so delicious, and yet comfortable and not pretentious. This restaurant is not for those who want huge quantities of food on the plate, but for those who want each bite to be extraordinary.
Our lunch was excellent is every respect. This was not our first visit and it certainly won't be our last.
Only one negative:
Arrived at lunch open with reservations and was
Led to way back of bar dining room
I said well why can’t we sit in main dining room when we were led to back of that room by the bathroom
I have been in food business my whole life....I wanna insulted
Legitimately the best seafood restaurant in NYC. For a place with 2 Michelin stars, the 4 course tasting menus is a pretty decent value. You pay a lot, but you get amazing quality and great service every.
Service and food very good and the atmosphere very agreeable!
Exquisite! I can't rave enough about this place. This was our third visit and the food and staff never fail to impress. Great wine list, the staff make sure you never want or have to ask for anything and the main reason you go is for the amazing seafood offerings. My we look forward to our next visit.
Marea never disappoints!
Haven't been dining there for 2 years and food quality significantly went down. Top notch service & ambiance as before
Outstanding experience for a special celebration. The service hums and really makes this place a joy and the menu is inventive but be ready to spend $$ especially if you’re having wine (exceedingly high markup). The anchovy crostini, lobster with burrata, sweetbread pasta, and lobster risotto w crispy vegetables all outstanding as well as the scallops entree. Mackerel crostini very bland. Skip the crudo: exceedingly small pieces for the crudo “flight” at $37+ - get another appetizer instead. Desserts good but not outstanding so if not in the mood I recommend to skip (sampled the chocolate, the donuts, and the green apple). Wonderful place to splurge and deserves its rating.
One of the best restaurants i have eaten at for food, service and decor.
Consistently great food and service. We love everything about Marea (but also agree that the planned re-fresh of the room is due).
Waiter was a little rood but the rest was amazing!!!
We absolutely love Marea. The ambience is is beautiful. The staff is just wonderful. The food is exceptional. Every time we visit NY, Marea is a restaurant we always return to.
This place truly deserved the Michelin 2018 award. Food was excellent, though serving size a bit on the minimal side. Every food is up to par, especially those lobster filled raviolis .... excellent!
Had such a nice meal for my wife’s birthday! They did a great job on everything the food was superb.
Everything was OK,
Service was very friendly and helpful despite our late arrival due to traffic. Your toilet facilities were more accessible than in the past.
Always memorable. Fantastic wine program and service.
I took my son here for his 40th birthday, and it was an inspired decision. The decor is striking. The service was impeccable; when my son wanted to deviate from the four-course prix fixe, our waiter recommended a mix of dishes that would give him what he wanted at a lower overall price. The wine list was extensive; I had a glass of pinot noir that was truly one of the best pinot's I have ever had. The flavors and imaginitiveness of the cuisine was outstanding. Truly a great restaurant!
Kent was fantastic! Great service!
Absolutely delicious food, freshly prepared, fusilli was amazing. Their own red wine was also delicious and complemented our fusilli. Our server was courteous. The bread was really good. The oysters were fresh.
Wonderful service. My server Darnelle offered a wonderful personalized experience. Budget two hours for the brunch tasting menu. I didn’t have that much time, so after making my concerns known to my server, she made sure I received all my courses with three minutes to spare!
Went here for a special occasion. We had a 10:15 reservation and weren't seated until 10:45.
We did the prix fixe menu. The food was very good, especially the pasta and the lobster appetizer.
However the service was below standard, especially for a 2 Michelin star restaurant, which I think should usually be the differentiating factor. We had to sit waiting quite a while to put in our initial order, get our water refilled and get the check. By the end it got so late that we asked for dessert to go.
Some other notes:
-The bread guy seemed strangely angry for some reason.
-I ordered a rare steak and it was medium rare at best.
-The wine list has almost nothing below $100. I'm not much of a wine drinker so it was hard finding just a basic bottle to satisfy us.
Overall, I'm not generally overly critical but I feel they should be held to a high standard of service given the price point. Perhaps it was just a bad night, the food itself was great. However I think there are far better options for the same amount of money.
My husband and I celebrated my birthday on Saturday with dinner at Marea, and before I continue, I must say the food was excellent, everything we ate was amazing. Unfortunately our overall experience does not allow me to recommend this restaurant to anyone. I have spent $500 per couple at other places, i.e. Del Posto and there, we received white glove service, a full description of the menu by our waiter - without our prompting and was seated immediately upon arrival. We arrived at Marea for our 9pm resv. at 9:02, we could see from the window as we were walking in many people hovering near the hostess so we knew something was off. The hostess told us they were "running behind" no big deal, we'll get a drink at the bar.
30 minutes later we are brought to our table, very close to another table so we heard every word of their loud conversation (3 drunk young guys high-fiving about how much money they make....gross). The waitress, young and hip, brings us the menu and walks away. Didn't explain that they recommend the 4 course meal (I read this prior to going) or anything for that matter (specials?). For $500 a couple I expect you to kiss my *ss, not have a back-up of reservations and have a buttoned up staff that makes the diner feel welcome, special and appreciated. I won't be back and won't be recommending, needs some work.
As always great food, and a muddy when in town; service seemed a little off compared to past experience
El servicio fue muy lento! Tardaron media hora en tomar nuestra orden
