   Had a good time. Food was great. Went around 7pm and sat in the basement. Be warned it gets very loud and may be difficult to hear if there are more than a couple of you. I was with older people and we had a difficult time.

   One waitress? Very slow service and so loud we couldn’t hear each other. Bartender’s plastic shaker was 3 feet away from our table. Food was over priced.

   I really enjoyed the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The bacon cheese burger was great and the right size (not too big). My friend and I had a great time and will absolutely return.

   We had a pre-theater meal at the Buttery and enjoyed it. There happened to be a fixed price menu on offer and we both went with the steak frite. My steak was cooked perfectly and the arugula salad was very tasty. However, the fries were sub-par. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and we had a nice time. I will keep this restaurant in mind when making future South End plans.

   South End Buttery was delicious food, but the floor and service was not great. We sat at our table for 35 minutes before anyone even said hello/introduced us to our waiter/waitress. I normally don't write reviews but felt like a manager of the establishment would want to know that the floor seemed disconnected and scrambled to take orders and run orders out.

   Usually an amazing experience but unfortunately was not the birthday meal I had hoped for. I felt sorry for the staff because they seemed overwhelmed. Our drinks were forgotten and not served till long after the meal was started. When we asked a waiter, he simply shouted “wrong waiter” over his shoulder. The manager or perhaps the owner ended up serving our coffee after our meal was almost over. The bacon was undercooked and very thin - similar to the Oscar meyer precooked bacon. As a $10 side that seems exorbitant. Scrambled eggs were also dry. As I mentioned, the food is usually great but this was not. The service was really disappointing, and this is the second time the attitude was really poor in terms of waitstaff. SEB used to be such a relaxing and delicious meal spot for me, but I think I’ll choose to a better tasting meal at a better price point else where for the next birthday.

    Reserved an outdoor table but there was none available and had to be sat in the basement. Service was a mess. Took a long time to take our order, had to ask for place settings, forgot to put our meals in.

    The food and service were great. We ate outside which was also very pleasant. I feel the place is a bit on the pricey side. $24 for an omelet seems a bit much. I had a side of sausage and paid $10 for two links. Overall a very nice experience on a beautiful day.

    It took 20 minutes for us to be seated, only to get a table under the stairs despite reserving at the garden level. The service was poor and bizarre, and although the food was fine it doesn’t feel worth coming back for.

    The ambiance was nice in the bar area, but the bartender was super loud. Our waitress was drunk or high, and basically ignored us after we ordered drinks. She had one drink order wrong and had to redo. When she finally came to over again, she told us the kitchen was closed. She had not mentioned that earlier or given us a chance to place a dinner order. Honestly, I don’t know how she was functioning. She was slurring her words and barely standing. Unbelievable. It could have been an isolated incident as I have been before and had good service. The food we did have was delicious.

    Has declined a lot since my last visit - remembered it being cozy and some of the best food I had eaten. This time, the server kept forgetting our order (and wasn't writing anything down?), the food quality was much worse, and when we arrived there was no host to be seen. Maybe just an off night but I was disappointed.

    Absolutely wonderful! We booked a last-minute reservation for 5 after the Boston Marathon. Didn’t realize that the place is a renowned bakery but also with an AMAZING dinner menu. We were blown away by every single dish but especially Walter’s recommendations of the Calamari (with a kick) and the Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were by far the best we’ve ever had. We were all two thumbs up with our entrees (varied…steak frites, salmon, chicken, salads with protein) and this will be a place we return to when we next visit our favorite city, Boston. Thank you South End Buttery, for your hospitality, and pristine bathrooms!

    They should give people a choice of seats if it’s early and they are not booked. We were seated in a weird center of the room table. We assumed that they were going to be busy so we accepted this table. But when we left, there were many “nicer” tables. They even sat a “deuce” at a nice cozy table for four. There were only three parties out of 9 tables when we left. Otherwise, good was great.

    I made a reservation for myself and ended up with a great table downstairs!! Lucky day for me with parking too!! The food was yummy and my Guava mimosa was too!! I can’t wait for my next visit!! Such a cute and quaint place.

    There was a new server that had just started that was AMAZING! We sat in the bar area on easter Sunday...can't remember her name, Mallory? Anyway, please praise her...she was what all servers should like!! Best we've had there and the food was incredible. The wild mushroom omelette with goat cheese was delicious!! Everyone enjoyed their brunch. Fave place!

    No one was interested in taking order & food is very expensive. Plain pancakes for $20 and the checkout we were charged at 4% kitchen fee plus tax plus tip (on top of all of the above).

    The space is cramped. Don’t like the experience of eating in a basement. Waiter did not ask to clarify our order and delivered the wrong items. The salad and the main course arrived at the same time for a companion diner.

    Our reservation was at 7:45. We showed up at 7:40 and waited until 8:40 to be seated. They had way over booked the restaurant and did not have any tables available. They had a line of people that were standing waiting for their table 30-45 minutes past their reservation time. Once we sat, we were told we had to order right away because the kitchen closed at 9:00.

    We sat upstairs at the high tops. The bar area is very small, so it was relatively quiet and intimate. The bartender was friendly and attentive. We both really liked our cocktails. The food was really good, though the fries that came with the fish and chips could have been cooked a little longer to stay crispier. I had ordered the prix fixe, but by the time dessert came around, I couldn't do it, and unfortunately both options would not travel well. The bartender did me a solid and got me a cupcake to take away--classy!

    charming, warm and inviting with fabulously attentive wait staff. Food was good, spouse loved the mushroom ravioli, I found the chicken parmesan good but not unusually so. Spaghetti was ordinary. bisque soup and desserts were outstanding! a real neighborhood place that was very welcoming.

    The food was fine - the service was... okay. The waitress who served us was adorable! Super nice and friendly. But the service itself was very (but very) slow. I understand that the narrative of shortage of staff is an issue (still). But as a business, at this point, they all have to figure it out how to be more efficient, with the current demand and staff availability, in order to properly serve customers - especially if they charge a 7% service fee...
