Kajitsu serves Shojin cuisine--Temple Kaiseki which is vegan a traditional Japanese culinary practice that is the very origin of Japanese cuisine. Please allow 2 - 3 hours for dining (10 - 12 courses). All of our dishes are prepared from fresh, seasonal vegetables, legumes, wild herbs, seeds and grains, chosen at the moment in the season that best reflects their flavor. At Kajitsu we make our delicious and wholesome dishes from high-quality ingredients prepared with traditional Japanese culinary techniques.
*Kajitsu policy states that each guest that is seated at a table/counter is required to order one full course menu. Please notify us in advance if any children will be joining your dinner party.

There were about ten courses on the tasting fine dining menu. We were looking forward to seeing how good vegan cooking could get. Unfortunately, if this as good as it gets, we will never join the ranks of veganhood. For the most part the cooking was bland. The food was brown with no attention given to color or even flavor. The dishes were nicely presented but disappointing once you bit into them. Service was fine, though it was hard to understand what was being said. The servers rushed through the ingredients with their heavy Japanese accents. A slower, more thoughtful and caring presentation would have been in order. We paid about $200 per person with tax and tip. This included wine.

It was wonderful as always. We went to celebrate my friend’s birthday and to enjoy the experience one last time before it closes. We will miss this quiet retreat and hope to see the team again.

Phenomenal food - August monthly omakase menu was excellent. Very seasonal and refreshing. I will miss this restaurant when it closes in September. The service is always top notch and love the attentiveness of all staff, servers, and the chef.

Kajitsu was always on the top of my list, and my husband and I finally got a chance to go there. It is very sad that the restaurant will close down permanently next month, but it was absolutely the best food experience in NYC. We have been frustrated because we haven't been able to visit Japan for so long because of the Covid, but we totally regenerated thanks to them! :)

I had omakase with tea pairing. I highly enjoyed the meal. I wanted to try Kajitsu at least once as it was always on my bucket list. I only wish I had tried it sooner. I hope Kajitsu opens again in NYC maybe in another capacity or in another space. Nonetheless I enjoyed the meal, the ambiance, and the service of the staff (who were more than excellent and courteous).

Celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday here and was blown away. This was our second time enjoying a meal here, and it’s our favorite restaurant in the city. The service is always calm and focused, and the food is thought provoking and delicious. Warrants a slow and intentional dining experience, and I cannot wait to return!

We went to celebrate our birthday there. Kajitsu dinner is always fantastic and mesmerizing. This time, we had glass of sparkling and sweet for our birthday from the chef. It was very memorable and amazing time. Unfortunately they will close this coming September. I will definitely comeback August snd September!

Excellent, creative and seasonal dishes were great and very pleasing to your eyes and palate. Presentation was unique and full of surprising idea with very attentive service staff. A friend of mine and I enjoyed the evening and happiness is lingering.

Katijsu is one of New York's best Japanese restaurants - and all the better that they have a vegan menu. The small dishes are superb - all interesting and extremely tasty. The service is remarkable. And the overall presentation of the food is an art form in itself. We have dined at Kajitsu on a number of occasions, and each one of them has been special. Highly recommend to all, even if you aren't vegan.
