What Insiders Are Saying
Does eating at Sunda feel like eating in the club? Yes, but you don't have to love the ChampagnePapi lifestyle to love this restaurant.
We went there for brunch and it was decent but it would be better for dinner. The duck buns were delicious. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good.
It was very loud, but otherwise a great experience.
Sunday is expensive and loud, but the food is quite good. Not a place to go if you're craving authentic Asian cuisine, but if you're looking to share plates and try a little bit of something, it works. Be prepared for a hefty bill though. The brussel sprout salad was surprisingly good, and very large.
Excellent food, drinks, service!
Great place for Sushi in downtown Chicago, highly recommend!!!
foods great. good atmosphere. dishes are all great. love the drinks. they take care of you.
Great service and excellent food
A little loud, but festive. Temperature was a little chilly. Food portions good, fresh, flavorful. Sushi roll was small but shared. Steamed buns delicious (though one of my pork pieces had alot of grizzel-yuck)
Pad Thai dish was good but a little dry but probably the best dish we tried. Duck fried rice was a pleasant surprise. Would have liked more soup choices- not a fan of Miso. Waiter was very helpful with recommendations.
Service was absolutely horrible
We loved this place!!! It was our first time here and my fiancé and I absolutely loved everything we ordered!! I don’t remember exactly what they were all called but we got the dan dan noodles, shishito peppers, demon roll, lemongrass salad, salmon sashimi, oxtail dumplings, these hamachi rolls with truffles and potato chips, and the ridiculous for dessert. The Dan dan noodle were the bomb!!! My fiancé didn’t want me to order them because he didn’t want to eat any carbs but when the dish came he ate more than I did :/. I would definitely recommend this place!! Our waitress was amazing too! Coming back soon!
Excellent service and excellent food
Food great, service great, somewhat pricey.
Best meal I had in Chicago. Huge gluten free menu with very knowledgeable staff. Food was off the charts.
Everything on their menu is awesome! But I don't know if the price justifies it. Definitely come back, gotta to try more
The male host was not friendly. I checked in initially with a female host who said we would be seated in a moment when my husband returned from valet. When my husband and I checked in with the male host he dismissively said that was not true and we would need to wait the 10 minutes until our exact reservation time. They were not packed, this was a Wednesday evening. The whole experience and attitude of the staff was underwhelming at best, including our server. I came for my birthday. The reservation noted it was my birthday, but the server was not aware. My husband went to the host stand at the conclusion of our meal to state he had expected the dessert to come with a candle at least. They minimally apologized to him and sent over a cupcake with a candle. I have been here before and liked it, but this was a disappointment.
Great food and service. Awesome surprise find and quick too. I’ll be back for sure. Best sushi I’ve had in a long time with a cool hip twist to it.
Great restaurant and menu. Love this place.
Great food. Cool atmosphere.
The whole experience was amazing! Our server, Brittany, was super helpful since it was our first time. All the food is shareable, so we got to try quite a bit and it was all very good! We ordered the brussel sprout salad, beef lollipops, red dragon sushi roll, and duck fried rice. For the menu being a sharing menu and everything coming out when it was ready, the portions were surprisingly large. Everything was priced very well too. Definitely will go back!
Made a large group reservation for Saturday night and had a wonderful experience. The staff was accommodating to our timeline and dietary restrictions. Our waiter was amazing and he really helped everyone get a dish they’d love. I couldn’t have been happier with the experience.
Ps- get the Brussels sprout salad! You’re welcome.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Sunday. Edwin who’s one of the managers was amazing and kind and our server Cody was awesome! Thank you for the Anniversary card and gifts. Greatly appreciated!
Love Sunda, sushi is so good and love the brussel sprout salad
I usually am happy with the food but this time was subpar.
The table next to us was extremely loud, and our service was very slow.
Great food and ambience. There were so many bus boys and they were extremely attentive vs our actual server.
Exceptional food! I’ve been here about 5 times and it has always been great. I will go back again and again.
Waiter seemed very uninterested in helping.
We try to eat at Sunda every time we are in downtown Chicago. They have not disappointed. Had the shiitake edamame dumplings and Asian pear salad to start; excellent. For entrees we had crispy rice seafood dynamite and the drunken noodles; everything was tasty and very good. For dessert had the banana dumplings with avocado ice cream; unique and tasty. They are always busy so make reservations; and be prepared for a somewhat nosy environment (large open room with hard surfaces so little sound is absorbed). Service was attentive as usual. Would rate a 4.5 if possible.
Loud. Tasty. Lively atmosphere
We always receive phenomenal and personal service at Sunda! The manager Kevin is outstanding and has made us feel so welcomed—the team goes above and beyond! Highly recommend Sunda not only for service but outstanding and unique Filipino food.
Cocktails were a bit weak and too sweet for our taste. Went with plain sake after 1st round of cocktails. Food was excellent!
Brought out of town friends. Walked in and the 4 of us were taken aback by the extreme noise level. It’s verging on unbearable.
Our waiter was odd, he kept telling us it was Friday, over and over. Every time he came to our table he interrupted our conversation. He talked the entire time he was at our table. I felt like he was really out of sorts. Ruined our experience.
Food was just okay. 2 of our orders weren’t right.
Seems like they’re getting sloppy and inattentive to the most basic and important parts of dining. This was our 4th and last visit to Sunda.
Good food and nice ambiance!
Slow service, but excellent food! Service was slow because restaurant was extremely busy, so overall worth the wait.
Exceptional food and service, we ate several different rounds of food which worked out great. Only issue was the noise was insanely loud - and we are a young 30s couple, could hardly hear each other sitting next to each other. Everything else was perfect!
It’s always so goo
Omg! The best Kare-kare dish (deconstructed) I’ve ever tasted in my life. You guys did a phenomenal jod capturing the taste of that dish! Very creative and nicely done! Love you guys!
I will not be returning back. For one the restaurant is incredibly loud and the tables are so close together, very unpleasant. Also our waiter was attentive for the first 15 minutes and then never checked on us again. We wanted to order more food but we were completely ignored. The hostess staff were quite rude as well. Terrible experience
Fantastic Food as always and a very nice treat for a Birthday Dinner, the food here is outstanding, third visit and didn't disappoint
