The Twisted Frenchman is a modern French restaurant located on the 2nd floor of 5925 Baum Boulevard. Carrying on the tradition of the original location, Chef Andrew Garbarino will take guests through a tasting experience of 4, 8, 18 courses or a la carte. Each dish is a sensory delight, prepared with modern techniques to immerse guests in their meal.

Patrons will have cocktails available from the bar, which draws upon the ideology of the kitchen; to make each beverage an unforgettable experience. Classic cocktails will pay homage to their origins while being transformed into new creations.

The wine list will offer selections from classic French regions focused on terroir-driven growers and producers, both by the glass and by the bottle. The sommelier team will also have wine pairings available for each tasting menu.

Food was sort of bland and lacked any meaningful seasoning. The steak I got was not medium rare but barely cooked, and even after sending back was rare and the quality was not indicative of the $58 price. The meat was tough and flavorless. The mashed potatoes contained too much cream and lacked any flavor besides the strong dairy consistency The dessert was under-whelming and un-original. Also I found the lack of any green salad choices a bit odd. I have been to Paris many times and have never been to any restaurant without any salad choices. Gabarinos owned by same person downstairs is a solid 4 star Italian restaurant which has never disappointed. I will not be back to Twisted Frenchman ...Paris 66 Bistro is much better value for authentic French cooking. For the $200 we spent I could have gotten a much better meal at Altius, Hyde Park or Capital Grill.

It was just what we were looking for on our kids free weekend. The food was delicious, surprising, and wonderful. The service was excellent. The only down side was that the two main dishes of the tasting menu were a tad undercooked for my taste.

Most ambitious restaurant in pittsburgh, but misses the mark. Clearly run by someone yearning for the novelty and technical elements of a place like Alinea, but misses some basics along the way like- salting, flavor. Not a bad meal, but not anywhere near where it wants to be.

Everything was impeccable from the food to the service to the wine. Our table was cozy and comfortable. I do recommend the six course tasting menu with wine pairings. The foie gras PB&J was amazing. The herbed mushroom consume prepared at table in a special contraption for coffee brewing was as interesting to watch as it was delicious. This place lived up to expectations for sure! This is up there with some of our top restaurant experiences!

The food we had was fine, nothing special, but definitely not worth the price. Our biggest issue was the service though - our waitress did not explain the menu, rarely checked on us, and told us they were sold out of the dessert we ordered but then proceeded to deliver said dessert to 3 surrounding tables who arrived, ordered, and finished eating all after we did.

Loved the foie gras appetizer but would have preferred a Larger portion. Wonderful bread service. Excellent dark chocolate soufflé. Highly recommended.

I would only recommend this restaurant if diners understand that food presentation/tasting matters more than quantity. We arrived not starving, but definitely hungry. After we left, we stopped at the Milkshake Factory to "top up the tank." The food is simply too precious to be satisfying. Tasty, for sure. But, there's so little of it that the meager portions just leave you wanting more. We had the celeriac soup (outstanding) and the quail (interesting) as appetizers and the Scottish salmon and duck breast as entrees. All were great but, again, tiny. We shared a chocolate souffle for dessert. It was equally flavorful. We dined during Restaurant Week, when an entree and appetizer -- (diners could choose one of three options in each course) -- cost $35.20 and a dessert of souffle or tart was an additional $12. Without drinks and with only one dessert, our tab with 20% tax came to $105. I find that a bit high for a meal that left me wanting, One last point: the ambiance is stark. Grey-blue walls and furniture were not rendered any cozier with the dim lighting. Indeed, the only "warmth" in the room came from the flickering battery-operated candles on each table.

We were there during restaurant week. The appetizers were yummy. The main course: duck breast was good but the lamb meatball/chop was very raw. ( meatball was rare & lamb chop was completely raw). Dessert was good.

Visited on kickoff day for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week so [disclosure] this review may not apply to the regular menu. We both had two-course fixed-price specials with wine pairings. First the positives: lovely peaceful room, all blues. Stunning molded LED chandeliers. Wonderful service, knowledgeable waitress, attentive greeter, free parking on the street after 6 PM. A rich chocolate truffle was presented at meal’s end. Oh but the food and the price. We could have enjoyed three terrific brewpub meals for one discounted meal here. I’m afraid we won’t be back. My risotto was supposed to feature truffle purée, roasted mushrooms, and mimolette cheese. It was over salted and just a face full of sharp, acrid leeks. Not cool on date night. (Leeks were not listed in the menu description.) My lamb wrapped lamb with shishito pepper was a tiny portion, the tiny chop was gristly, and the sauce was gummy and over salted and peppery to the point of puckering. One shishito pepper was beautifully charred. The others were overcooked to limp transparent smushy pulps barely an eighth inch thick on the plate. An accompanying Parker House Roll with thyme was utterly pedestrian. Plus I got the edge of the tray that was open to the air; one side of my roll was stale and hard. The “wine flight” was two three-ounce pours for $20. Groom’s celery root soup featured two morsels of lobster. His duck was nothing special. Its sauce like mine was over salted and gummy. Portions were small to moderate. The lovely tall windows look out on a Baum Boulevard street sign and a parking lot. Every time the lady to my right shifted on our upholstered bench seat, I got seesawed up in the air a bit. We went for the $35 specials, and left paying close to $150 for a meal that failed to deliver on its promise.

NYE at The Twisted Frenchman was a disappointment. The level of service did not measure up to the expectation of a fine dining experience. We waited 20+ minutes to even order our first drink; when we received it, the waitress assumed then that we did not want the wine pairing, which we did. Most disappointing was the ratio of courses to the cost. For NYE, they increased the cost of dinner by 32% and the cost of wine pairing by 43%. Meanwhile, they reduced the # of courses for both food and wine to only 4, down from the usual 6. Then, to add insult to injury, the wine pairings were poured at the quantity of a 1/4 glass per course. Unbelievable. People who spend several hundred dollars on dinner DO NOT expect to be nickle and dimed in this way. I paid $50 for the equivalent of one full glass of wine. The filet was prepared extremely rare, without a care to ask about the preference of preparation. I don't eat raw meat. This was unedible. Last but not least, we told our waitress at 11:50pm, we hoped to sign the check and make it downstairs to watch the ball drop. She disappeared for 10 minutes until we heard the staff celebrating the New Year in kitchen. Thanks a lot. I apologized to our friends who we had invited here for dinner - how embarrassing! We will spend our hundreds of dollars elsewhere next time.

Our third visit to the twisted Frenchman and it was extremely disappointing. This was to be a New Year’s eve special dinner. We ordered the pre fixe menu with wine pairings. Starting with the soup course, everything came out basically cold or at room temperature at best; that included the soup, the fish and risotto course followed by the beef/potato with foie gras course. Barely room temperature. Sent the beef back and got returned another sample with exactly the same problem. We skipped the dessert course, paid our bill and left. We told the waitress/waiter who apologized. It’s not their fault however. We then saw the manager or maître d’, he demanded to know why we hadn’t contacted him! He said if he had known he would’ve been able to take care of things. I don’t know why it should be my job to let him know that the food out of his kitchen is below standard. He kept saying that he couldn’t make sure things were OK if we didn’t tell him what was wrong. Again, if he’s in charge of the kitchen, he should know what’s coming out of it and should be able to adjust the quality so it’s appropriate to the price. They promo’d the wine pairings ( wine pouring were extremely meager) but we still ended up paying $300 for what was at best, a mediocre meal. We could’ve done much better at probably half the price from any one of a dozen restaurants within a half mile.

We went for dinner on New Year's Eve. Menu was set. No choices. The $119 four course meal was a huge disappointment. Nothing was cooked to order. Food was not served hot. Quality was on par with wedding food at an airport hotel. It felt like the Chef took the night off.

We admitted that a typo had happened, you were presented the bottle of wine, it was opened, tasted and poured after that you then decided to inform us of the error. The manager apologized and brought back the list for you to chooses another bottle. we tried to remove this bottle! While we were trying to clear the bottle, you then decided to keep it, when it was't take off your check is when you decided to complain again. We tried everything to correct the situation, you only wanted a free bottle

We had a beautiful table with a window view that was ready for us upon arrival. Everyone was very nice, but the service did not match the restaurant's price point. Servers did not take our order for a while and did not routinely check in to see how we liked the food or if we needed anything. After 6 courses with wine pairings (which were the highlight - the pairings worked very well!), I was hoping to leave stuffed, but instead I was still hungry. I would recommend if the price wasn't so high for what you get, which was lovely, but not a high value.
