Californian
Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate.

One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.

We've eaten at Lucques many times over the last 20 years, usually for Sunday supper -- and this was one of the few disappointing dining experiences. While the menu sounded promising, each course was carb based, and with the exception of the oven-baked flatbread as a starter, were not notable. (The mussels in the arroz a la marinera were minuscule and the seasoning overpowering; the rice pudding for dessert was good, but more rice...)

And speaking of carbs, and this is a minor detail, the bread service used to be far better. The current variety seems to have come from a bread machine and left to sit for too long.

The service is spot on as usual and the wine pairing is great. We'll be back again...

Sunday suppers are a great way to experience new dishes, and,on this particular night, the skills of excellent guest chefs. The menu is set, so the price is lower. Great food and a great way to experience this wonderful restaurant.

i was at lucques the very first months and loved loved loved it, i have returned intermittently as i love the vibe the team and suzanne and her entire being, however i had not been to lucques in a 5 years and it is even better than when i was last there.. there is soul, style and timeless deliciousness that bucks the trend of creating new "dishes" just for novelty or instagram... i am still in love with the place, maybe even more

Lucques is one of our favorite restaurants in LA. They recently created a new menu and we each had a vastly different entree. Each one of them were so unique and fantastic. Everyone raved (4)! We usually have Isabelle as our waitress, and she is fantastic. We didn't have her this time and the service suffered a bit. I am not sure I could even tell you who our waiter was this time. Everyone was sort of pitching in. I think this was an off incident but it was worth noting. If you want to have your taste buds dance.... definitely go to Lucques!

Lucques continues to turn out excellent food. Their creative use of local produce and their adherence to high standards ensures a meal that is both interesting and delicious. The Sunday prix fixe supper is a great institution that highlights chef Goin's creativity and skill.

When my husband first started having his large chemotherapy infusions last year, we began the tradition of trying to go somewhere really nice for dinner at the end of the workday, to console us for the rather dismal way the day began. It has been a nice way of turning something unpleasant into something quite pleasant. We have visited some of the finest restaurants in our city, courtesy of recommendations from a variety of foodie publications, and of course, the Food Network’s show “The best thing I ever ate”.
Tonight was our first real disappointment. The short ribs at this establishment had been recommended on the show, and we came with high expectations, since the past few restaurants we have visited have been truly exceptional. Our service was terrible. Eventually, the waitress admitted to us that she had completely forgotten our orders, even though it was the beginning of the evening and there were hardly any tables seated yet. The cocktail menu was very sparse - the results, when they finally arrived after almost half an hour wait, were not bad, but definitely not great. The food was actually really good, but by that point, our experience had already been dampened. Dessert was just OK.
I am very sorry that I cannot recommend this place to anyone. It’s a first. And I am sad.

Room was a little dark-couldn't see the food as well as I would have liked. Some of the individual ingredients on both our entrees were kind of mashed together. I certainly don't mind a rustic presentation, but I prefer to have a clear view of what's happening on the plate. But, everything was delicious.

First visit and will definitely be returning. We selected the hangar steak and the Sonoma lamb entrees. A presentation for the most discriminate palate with just the right portions stacked and plated. The wine choices are impressive and our server was very knowledgeable with pairing wine. Only suggestion, our food was not hot - a minor mention since it was so perfect - but the weeknight was not so busy and both of us felt it could have been if served as the chef put it out.

We are longtime (20+ years) Lucques patrons. Lucques has comforted us in difficult times, helped us celebrate in good times. It is always warm and welcoming, and the food and drink are always, without fail, wonderful. Bright flavors, seasonally tuned, deeply satisfying. And the staff are supremely professional and attentive. There is no other restaurant we love as well.

Our reservation was on the early side, having just come in from the East coast, so it was not that busy. We felt rushed and slightly disconnected from the service as they were going through the motions. It was meant to be a special dinner and even with a bottle of wine we were out in a little over an hour. Food was delicious but total experience was lacking.

I was very much looking forward to dining at Lucques. However, my expectations were not met. The best about the restaurant is the wine list which has an excellent selection of French wines, especially Premiere Crus. However all of the good wines start at $255 per bottle. Other bottles were priced well below $80 but were of inferior quality.
The food was good when they made it correctly. The Steak for 2 arrived very much undercooked, and the arugula salad was very salty and not edible. The grilled vegetables appetizer was very good.
The service was annoying. We were constantly getting interrupted in mid-sentence, as the waiters were more interested in getting orders placed rather than just letting us take our time.

No management came to our discuss the service issues nor did anyone offer us any compensation for the problems with both the food and service. For $400+ I'm not sure that I would go back.
