I think the experience would have been better if the staff was more organized with seating us. The couple in front of us didn’t have a reservation & blocked anyone else from being sat. We had reservations, were delayed in being sat, then were moved after we were sat because there was a larger party that needed our table. Not impressed.

We had a very enjoyable evening at Shuraku with attentive service, very good Sake and wonderfully creative sushi and sashimi. The fish was extremely fresh and simply delicious. The restaurant had a good buzz and is warm and welcoming.

Average sushi restaurant. Based on previous reviews, we had hoped for something special. Service was inconsistent. Dishes were not cleared after each course and getting drinks and water took several attempts. Server was sweet and friendly but had several tables to tend to on a pretty slow night. Nothing we were served was bad or unacceptable save the sukiyaki. Sukiyaki was very unimpressive. Far too sweet and the beef was tough and chewy. Fish was fresh and presentation was OK. Asked for and were served fresh wasabi which was the highlight of the evening. Overall, very disappointing experience. Go in with low expectations and you will not be surprised.

Shuraku is one of ma favourite go-to Japanese restaurants. Try the spicy salmon tartare, the eggplant poppers, and the signature ribs. Nice selection of cold saki as well !

It was very good but not quite what we expected. It was just a little more casual than expected. Was a little surprised that the dishes we ordered were not served with rice. It was supposed to be "family style" which normally has a pot or bowl of rice with it. Could be mistaken. The sushi here was fantastic, top 3 of any place we have been...and came out quickly too. Service was excellent also.

This is a Vancouver gem. One would be hard-pressed to find a better Sake selection in Vancouver and it is reasonably priced as well. The "tuna three ways" stood out. The sushi rice for the Nigiri dishes was just the right temperature and texture.

Food and drinks were fine, but value for money was horrible, we ordered sashimi for almost 30CAD...we even asked if it was enough for 2 people as we were quite hungry... Turned out that the portion was very small, so that was disappointing. Quality of the fish was great but please put on some more of it so ppl wont leave the place as hungry as when they came in...

The food is always excellent, of the highest quality. Shuraku does NOT serve farmed salmon, one of the greatest characteristics of this place for me is the concern for sustainable and highest quality. Always a great choice when on the Granville strip for a concert, a night out on the town, or whatever occasion.

Restaurant was very busy and food took a long time to arrive (20-30mins). The quality was also not as good as we were used to. Have been here before and the fish was very fresh. This time the spicy salmon roll was a weird pasty/gooey mush, and did not smell fresh. For the high prices, I would have expected higher quality food and quicker service.

We were seated right in front the door, immediately asked host/server if possible to change table as restaurant was not busy. He was not too impressed by our request even though the restaurant was 1/5 full. If we were left with no choice I would understand, but there were plenty of seats including the bar. After seated, no one bothered to greet or bring water to our table. Took at least 10 minutes before someone realized we were there and brought water to our table.

Really enjoyed the sukiyaki one person pot meal, a bit short on vegetables, but yummy! I had it with a side of udon noodles for $1, great value! The sake margaritas are to die for, very tasty, could drink many of those! Also the matcha cheesecake was very nice, with a chocolate crumb base and fruit coulis. All in all we would come back to try more tasty bites, looks like a great menu. Service was a bit slow but it was heavy traffic time, before the Pops performance at the Orpheum and the line up at the Commodore. Reservations recommended.

Great service! Very knowledgeable and friendly. The food was very good—and beautiful presentation. The only thing was the beef tataki should have been beef carpaccio—very thin and very tender but it was not. It seems that it may not have been typical offering though? Perhaps a one off? They handled it professionally. It’s too bad as the salad and dressing was tasty -we really would have enjoyed it.
