Food and service excellent.
Our family visited Monicacy Crossing for a birthday celebration. We had a wonderful evening. We were greeted warmly, the service was excellent, and the food varied and delicious. We will return.
Always delicious !
We just had wine and ordered small plates. The pork shanks and deviled eggs were delicious.
We had a great time. The service was excellent and the food was good. It's always a pleasure to dine at Monocacy Crossing. We've never had a bad time or reason to not come back.
The atmosphere was nice, wine was good. Calamari wasn't the greatest, the breading was so so and the sauce was a bit too savory for me. The Korean beef app was good, moist, flavorful. The salad (garden I think) I had was good and was big enough to split with someone. I had the lamb shank which fell off the bone. It was flavorful and the sweet mashed potatoes were good. Everything was very salty however and we should not have gotten two appetizers for sure! So if you like comfort foot and can tolerate a bit more salt in your food, then this is your place. Just make sure you eat light for the day to save room for the meal.
Casual feel, yes but with nice touches....and the food has always been great every time we have visited 5-6 times.
Just a bit uncomfortable because party of two were (not rowdy) very loud. Server did everything she could to speed them on with grace, but it did not work. They were having too much fun I guess. NOT the restaurants fault, dining room does not have much in the way of noise absorbing surfaces like most places.
We should have accepted the servers offer of moving us to a different table.
We have been going to MC for many, many, many years and I always say the same thing: the interior detracts from the excellent food, wine list and service. Seriously: an overhead light should be replaced by recessed overhead lighting. That paneling with stenciling might have nouveau in the 60's but nice painted drywall would be delightful. Bite the bullet (or a wonderful lamb shank) and shut down for one week, gut that front room and recreate a room that reflects your cooking and staff. It doesn't have to be elaborate and over the top; simple would be fine, but please update. It is very offputting.
We have eaten here before...a few years ago and as I recall the meals were good. This time we ordered the New York Strip and Beef Medallions. The New York Strip was not tender with tracings of grissel through out. The Beef Medallions were ordered medium and arrived medium rare. We had to switch entres since my wife likes her food medium. The New York Strip was hard for her to chew.
The room we were in, toward the front of the restaurant, was dated for the amount the meals cost. Big black air conditioner cord going up the wall and ceiling lights that looked like 1950's. Restaurant needs a rehab if prices are going to stay where they are.
Don't think we would go back. Steaks are better at Longhorn or Texas Roadhouse
The food and service are wonderful. We were able to enjoy a conversation with friends and an excellent meal.
Amazing apps of duck nachos, crab dip, and awesome crispy deviled eggs. We all ordered different meals of omelettes, or waffles, or poached eggs and everyone was very happy. The service was excellent and the portions very large. Cookie sandwiches were a hit.
Fine food and excellent service in this surprisingly roomy restaurant. Well worth the visit.
Food was delicious! Presentation was great, knowledgeable staff. Can’t wait to go back!
Went for a birthday brunch celebration and was not disappointed. There were numerous food selections. We all ordered something different and everything was very good. Although not on the menu, there are a few choices for kids. They brought a puff pastry filled with homemade ice cream and drizzled with sauce for the birthday with a candle. Overall a great time and will be back.
The food and service were outstanding. We were seating shortly after arrival and our drinks arrived soon after ordering. Delicious appetizer followed by a wonderful meal and ample portions. Free desert for our anniversary!
Looking for great food in an interesting atmosphere? Look. No. More.
Tired of cookie-cutter chains? Look. No. More.
This. Is. It!
As always, Monocacy Crossing was great - the food, Service, value. One of our favorites.
Always appreciate the specials. Our waitress, Rose, was a delight.
This was our third time having dinner at Monocacy Crossing. Both of our entrees were delicious. I had cioppino and I honestly could not believe how sweet and clearly fresh all of the seafood in the dish was. My husband had steak, which was cooked perfectly to his order. Our waitress was totally on top of a dietary restriction of mine. So much so that she caught me as I was about to take a bite of something I shouldn’t have from my husband’s plate! We did have two complaints. One was the noise. We dined on a Saturday evening and it was so loud when we sat down that we had a difficult time hearing each other across the table. Secondly, my husband ordered a Manhattan to drink and we were shocked when we received the check to find he was charged $17 for his cocktail! That price seemed absurd to us. Nonetheless, we will definitely be back.
This was our first time at this restaurant and we just loved it. Food was delicious with a great selection to choose from. The service was great and we all loved each of our dinners. Definitely looking forward to going back with our friends.
We had a birthday celebration with some surprise guests and the wait staff went well above and beyond the call of duty to help make this happen. Everyone loved their food selection. I had the jerked salmon and it was outstanding. Highly recommend!
Our waitress (Erin) was exceptional and knew the menu well to make suggestions. Make your reservation soon!
We try to eat at Monocacy Crossing whenever we are in the Frederick area since the food is always great. They never fail. The avocado toast was a fantastic starter. I went with the pork tenderloin which was cooked perfectly.
Good food, well presented and friendly, efficient service
First time visit for my husband birthday and was very happy with our meals and waitstaff and will definitely go back again.
As usual, we very much enjoyed our dinner at Monocacy Crossing.
Awesome service...the food and service was really good!! Highly recommend.
Met an out-of-town friend based on proximity to Frederick and online ratings. Farther in "country" than expected, but definitely worth the drive! Good selection of wines, snacks and appetizers - all very tasty. Good variety of entrees - beef medallions and shrimp/scallops were excellent! Service was exceptional - water refilled w/o asking before empty; waiter was very professional and friendly, engaged in fun conversation; wrapped up leftovers; were not rushed even though we stayed 2-1/2 hours. Quiet enough inside for talking; many dined outside in nice weather. Waiter brought display of 5-6 desserts, not menu, and choices looked delicious. Would rate MC a 5, but for dessert. We picked crème brûlé; custard was flavorful, but served cold, as if taken right from the fridge and the sugar quickly caramelized. Overall, terrific restaurant and nice relaxing Friday night.
The sweet heat hush puppies for a fantastic appetizer while enjoying happy hour beer and wine. The jerk chicken salmon was quite good. The hanger steak, though under cooked, also was quite good.
Delicious meal and excellent service. Worth a trip. Monocacy Crossing doesn’t disappoint
We read that this restaurant had as good or better ratings than the Tasting Room and AYSE and our experience lived up to that reputation. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and the service was perfect!
The quote below captures how we felt about our bland Sat night dinner at Monocacy Crossing:
"To ‘rest on your laurels’ means that you get lazy or complacent about what you could achieve because you’re too busy basking in the memories of former glories."
Perhaps some people have read too many of their own reviews. Maybe they've started to mail-it-in. The chef (and or owner if different) should visit 4-5 restaurants around Frederick and another 4-5 in Baltimore or DC. Then ask if they've tried hard enough. We don't mean to suggest Monocacy should try to act like some other restaurant. But we do mean that somebody needs to try harder.
If the above seems too abstract, then let's get specifically critical:
- The appetizers seemed uninventive. The scallops tasted fine, but we can make better-tasting and fancier scallops at home. And we couldn't find any appetizer that looked better than the scallops
- The menu seemed so uncreative that we both chose different cuts of beef. What a mistake. The chef cheaped-out with low-grade (i.e., not tender) meat and did nothing to make it taste good. (Ms./Mr. Chef, go get some rib-eyes at CostCo if you can't do better.) Don't order steak.
- My wife got the poundcake (again). Why? Because nothing seemed better. You wonder if the poundcake acts like the bride at the wedding, with all the other desserts serving as bridesmaids that can't look better than the bride. We hope so. Because if the chef meant to put effort into the other desserts then s/he really missed the mark.
- At first, our server seemed cold. Maybe she had a bad day. By the end of the meal she rose to luke warm. No atrocious story to tell, but as a guest you feel uncomfortable if your server seems like they strain to serve you.
All bad? No. Somebody brewed some rich tasty decaf coffee on Sat night. Unfortunately, mentioning the decaf coffee constitutes damning further with faint praise.
Celebrating 12th Wedding Anniversary
Best kept secret in Frederick!
Our favorite restaurant for special occasions as well as for just a night out. There are always interesting menus options and we have always been pleased with the temperature and plating of the food. The servers contribute to a calm atmosphere and you do not feel rushed even if they are busy. We highly recommend Monocasy Crossing.
Food and service top notch great place to enjoy dinner with your wife and friends .
Good food and great value worth the drive. Spend a little time in the area worthwhile,
Soneone recommended this place. Mind you, it’s a 1.5 hour drive and was well with it.
Best kept secret!
It’s now a regular Sunday brunch for me.
Killer Cosmos! Great food and service. The outdoor patio is fun.
