Great service, gorgeous decor and delicious food. We had a wonderful dinner on the patio at Avanti - too nice to go inside! It was quiet enough to have a conversation yet busy with lots of people and great ambiance, looking out at the golf course. Will go again!

Had a quiet, pleasant evening on the patio. Had great personalized service from Anthony. Ordered the squash blossoms and the pork copa. Both were utterly amazing! I can't wait to come back and try more as the menu had so many great selections. We'll be back!

We haven't been back to Avant in quite some time and wanted to try out the menu and new chefs (well, new since the last time we last dined here). We decided to make a reservation for our Anniversary. Service was impeccable from being greeted when checking in to our waiter "Sal" and his very nice assistant (wish I remembered her name). The complimentary glass of sparkling wine was a thoughtful touch. The wine recommendation was also spot on. I had the salmon and my husband enjoyed the Alaskan Halibut. Both were prepared and plated perfectly. We also shared a side of the vegetables and they were fresh and delicious....almost my favorite part of the meal. The chocolate ganache cake was also wonderful. We would highly recommend and will be coming back in two weeks for a family birthday celebration. Can't wait!

We dined this past Friday to celebrate my husband's birthday, and unfortunately it was quite disappointing. While most of the food was terrific, expcept for the squash blossoms, the service was really off, leaving much to be desired. I let the restaurant know when I made the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. A few days in advance, I called and left a message asking if I could arrange cake or something to make it extra special, and never got a call back. The waiter, while very pleasant, bungled the drink and food orders pretty badly. When it came time for dessert, he comped it to make up for the issues, but there wasn't even a candle, whipped cream or anything celebratory. We left feeling very disappointed.

My family and I went here for my dad's birthday and it was wonderful. They had a special birthday card for him as well as a delicious chocolate dessert. The ambiance was nice and calm, cheerful and open so we were very comfortable dining there.
The food was delicious, the salmon is perfectly done, the rib eye was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious.

We booked them private dining room, Table 65, for a work function. It’s a perfect spot for a group of 12 or less and our waiter, Bub, was outstanding!

Totally enjoyable and enhance by our waiter Rob.
Several of the dishes had unique twists such as the very “brite” cucumber salad.

Had a stellar dining experience yet again! Such a wonderful venue. I believe this was our first time on a Saturday night and I’m so happy we came. Listening to live music to a guy that took me back into time. From what the server said, he was new and we hope he stays! The food as always was spectacular. We started with the crab salad, moved into the veal chop special (mouth watering) and finished with the coffee and donuts. Love. Love. Love this restaurant. Service was great, our server Christa was a delight. Very cheery and knowledgeable about the menu.

2nd time there and the food NEVER disappoints! I've NOT had a bad appetizer, main dish or dessert at either of my visits.
Customer service is on point too. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will return again.

Was surprised as this restaurant is rated 4 star and charged $50 for restaurant week meal. Have eaten many places of 4 star. The food was not comparable to any of them. It was like eating in hotel restaurant, which it is.

I was skeptical about enjoying the food since the restaurant seemed very foodie and pretentious (courgette rather than zucchini were listed on the menu). But all the food (salmon with yogurt, beef duo, cucumber salad and squash puffs) were excellent, most especially the beef duo and wine sauce. Delicious!

The wait staff was excellent. They moved seamlessly with each other, pouring water, filling wine glasses, removing and replacing silverware. It was a well composed orchestra of action.

Not too fancy of an ambiance given the prices (no tablecloth, napkins were similar to tea towels, paper menus) but I understand the paper menus due to the changes that are made daily by the chef.

Great experience to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary.

Should have more seating on the bar area.
Most of us would have liked a larger selection of food items 10$ or less. Happy Hour to 7pm on weekdays
The the chicken liver mousse tart was outstanding
The food had a nice presentation and great flavor
Generally pricey so be prepared. One of us was surprised the bar didn’t serve “Appletini”

I ordered the John Dory. The fish was fresh and prepared correctly, but it came with very little. The menu states that it comes with green strawberries and white asparagus. There were MAYBE 2 pieces of strawberry and 2 each of the asparagus. And the cost was $38? This fish runs $15 a pound wholesale. That is poor value. I have had other such experiences there.

I had wanted to try this restaurant for some time but now that I finally have I can mark it off the list. It’s a lovely restaurant and they try really hard to be something special but they just miss the mark. The menu is very limited and the food combinations are really quite unappealing. My friend and I read over the menu and actually had a hard time deciding what to order, and not because everything sounded so good! I ordered the John Dory and it was very bland and almost tasteless. My friend ordered the chicken dish and said it was okay but wouldn't choose it again. Bottom line for us is, we won’t be back!

Great experience overall. 6:30 Sunday evening dinner reservations, so we arrived at 5:30 and took a seat at the bar for the tail end of happy hour and a replay of the game. We had two hand crafted drinks and the delicious hummus app and some relaxing conversation and then we moved over to dinner. Wine selection was great, but plan on spending a bit for a good bottle which is worth it. Excellent dinner with the backdrop of an amazing sunset. Then took a walk through the inn and found a quiet bench to sit and share a romantic twilight conversation. Service was excellent, food was perfect and the ambiance was first class.

From Daniel my server to the manager, service was excellent and fully food was unique, delicious AND plentiful. Usually fancy restaurants get too creative or skimp out. This place was "fancy" but didn't skimp.

Wonderful menu and service! We were glad to see that Avant takes the Passport Dining card and decided to try it out after a friend said that they had a nice dining experience there recently. We live nearby and had heard some bad reviews lately so were a bit reluctant to try it out, but after we heard that it was good again we made a reservation. Our experience was just about perfect. Our waiter, Rob, provided excellent service. Our food was absolutely delicious and creative, just what is expected from a restaurant such as Avant. We started with the Sqaush Blossoms and Oysters which were lovely. Rob brought us a taste of a delicious Pinot Noir which we enjoyed throughout our meal. Our entrees were very tasty - Iberico Pork in a tasty sauce with shallots and peaches and the Jidori Chicken with lentils cooked with bacon on the side. We ended the meal with “Coffee with donuts” - mini-donuts with a side of Bailey’s ice cream with espresso poured over it. We dipped the donuts in the Bailey’s/Coffee mixture and it was heavenly. A very creative menu and wonderful evening!

Absolutely outstanding!!! The seaweed pasta was the most brilliant dish I’ve ever had. Such a great representation of the ocean. Service was fantastic. It’s refreshing to get receive such great service compared to other local earteries. Hats of to the management team you’re all doing a great job! We’ll be back!

Service was incredibly slow. Our bottle of wine was in the cellar and warm so we had to wait on that as well. Food was very good but expensive!! The manager did comp us our salads and first round of drinks. I wouldn’t go back though.

The food was mediocre at best. The salmon had no flavor; the John Dory was only lukewarm. The cornbread madeleines were dry and flavorless. Very small servings with odd accompaniments. Not dog friendly on the patio.

I have dine at Avant since it opened. Our waiter, Rob, was great as he has been other times when we have dined there. What is disappointing is that the historical climb in prices from where Avant started is now combined with portion sizes, of both the salads and the entrees, which are not adequate for adults. Three of us dined and none of us is anything but trim so we are not huge eaters. Our ages went from 27 to 68. The food is good, however. The other negative is the "surcharge" added to the bill in response to the hike in minimum wages of the staff. Increase the price of my salad or entree but don't pull the surcharge card. It comes across as a nickel and dime approach to dining in what presents itself as a fine dining place. Overall, Avant does not provide true value. It is good but not exceptional yet is at a price point where you can get more for the same money at other places. Worth giving a try but be aware of the above.

Overall I was very pleased with our evening. It began with the crab appetizer in the bar it was excellent. My friend had the Waghu in the dining room I tried it the meal was excellent. Flavor excellent.
I had the John Dory and the flavor and presentation were outstanding. The meal was $32. And the amount on the plate was unsatisfactory. I left hungry. My daughter had the John Dory the evening before and said she split the meal with her husband. I am a small eater but seriously my meal was only 3 bites. Please look in to the size of the fish portion, it was just nothing on the plate. Thank you

I've been to Avant a few times. Each time is a new experience, because the menu is updated often. Clearly a passionate and creative chef!!
This time was exquisite. Wagyu beef pair. Melted in your mouth.

It was hubby's bday, and when I called to make the room reservation, I told the manager of Rancho Bernardo Inn that we are celebrating his bday. When I made a last-minute Avant reservation, the hotel made sure to notify the restaurant. What a pleasant surprise! A beautiful dessert to help him celebrate.
Thanks for making his weekend spectacular!
