Located in the heart of Cooper Young, a historic Midtown restaurant and retail destination, Tsunami is a Pacific Rim-inspired restaurant where guests can feel like globetrotters from the comfort of their own table.

Award-winning owner and Chef Ben Smith fuses various ethnic cuisines—from Asia and the South Pacific to France and the American South—to create unique and flavorful small plates and seafood specialties.

The cozy restaurant, adorned with local art and handmade accents, offers a unique bar centerpiece with fine wines and liquors, local draft beers, and daily-rotating specialty cocktails.

Consistently named “Best Seafood Restaurant” in the Memphis Magazine and Memphis Flyer, coveted Tsunami entrées including a spice-crusted tuna with wasabi vinaigrette, beef tenderloin with smoked chile butter, and roasted seabass with black Thai rice and soy beurre blanc.

    The occasion was my mom’s 87th birthday. The food was very good. They are certainly proud of their sea bass, but it was absolutely outrageous! They were more than happy to serve a cake that we brought with us. If you are a seafood lover, Tsunami needs to be on your list!!!

    We had an awesome evening for our friends birthday. Fabulous service by Jeff. The food is always great especially the salmon, the bacon wrapped dates, and the sea bass. We love this place and sre thankful for the same great service and experience every time we go!

    Tsunami is always amazing. The weather was great so we sat on the patio. Nicole was a knowledgeable and helpful waitress. The meatball appetizer was one of the best apps we’ve had here. Highly recommend them. The barramundi special on top of a fennel and orange salad might be my all time favorite dish at Tsunami. Will definitely be back.

    Sea bass is a real treat. My date had a filet. She enjoyed it. Had the calamari too. A big plate of it. Delicious.

    I hadn’t been here since before covid and it was just as delicious as I remembered. Started with a wonderful brut rose sparkling wine and the cold sesame noodles, then seared tuna served over cucumber salad. The tuna was seared perfectly and wonderfully tasty. Had sorbet trio for dessert, which included strawberry, raspberry, and jackfruit; the mild jackfruit was a great contrast to the sweetness of the other two flavors. Also had chocolate-banana lumpia, basically an egg roll with banana and melted chocolate inside. The restaurant was busy and despite the tables with 6-8 people, we were able to talk easily, no need for shouting over others. All in all, a great meal with terrific service and fantastic food!

    Ambient noise is always an issue with this group of older diners, but we requested the south dining room, where the tables are farther apart, and were lucky to also have the room largely to ourselves for most of the evening. I was a little disappointed to see they have discontinued their “small plates” menu, as that size was always perfect for my appetite. Still, food was delicious, service excellent. Highly recommend.
