   We had a party of 10 to celebrate my boyfriends birthday, and they placed us in a private room by the kitchen! This made the experience great from the start, and allowed us to really enjoy our time without concern about being too loud for other guests at the restaurant. Our main server, Daniel, was attentive throughout the night and suggested places for after! He even helped us get a reservation at the club we went to after dinner, which was above and beyond. The food was pretty excellent, expect maybe that a few of the fish dishes were a tad overcooked. The seafood risotto was by far the best thing I tried all night! The lamb shank was also pretty nice.

   The food was really outstanding! Loved the escargot, the sea bass was amazing. The only real complaint I have is that we were being rushed badly, even though there were empty tables in the restaurant. We ordered drinks, and had taken no more than a couple of sips before the server was asking us about appetizers. We told him what we were thinking about having, but stressed that we wanted some time to work on our drinks. We had barely turned our heads before the appetizers were on the table. We both still had 2/3 of our drinks left. I complained to the server, so he did slow it down some after that, but he was much less friendly than he had been when we arrived. The other complaint I have is the prices on the wine list. The cheapest bottle they had was $60 for a pretty mediocre wine. Would we go back? Yes, though those two things left a bad taste in my mouth.

   The food was excellent! Sea bass was the best I’ve had and my wife really enjoyed the scallops. The staff was very attentive and professional without being pretentious, which is very difficult to find that balance.

   Great food and ambiance. The only reason why I’m giving it a 4/5 stars is because we had to wait 50 minutes for our table! I would have rated it lower for the extreme wait, but the food was great and we had second round drinks on the house. I will definitely come back.

    Magnificent evening, even with a few hiccups. Our reservation was for 7:30, but when we walked in we could tell by the cramped waiting area, we would not be seated right away. Somehow their reservation system had overbooked the dinning room. The owner/hostess apologized and offered us a complementary glass of champagne while we waited. We enjoyed the spectacular art, stunning room and great people watching and were seated about 20 min later. Everything we had was absolutely top notch! Duck was incredibly flavorful and foie-gras fantastic. Francisco the manager took excellent care of us. We will definitely keep this on our list of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Chicago!

    Delicious food but terrible service. Waiter brought wrong drinks several times and forgot to order half of apps which came after our entrees arrived (because we reminded him). Wouldn’t come back especially with a $300+ bill. Waste of a date night.

    Me and my boyfriend went here and absolutely loved it! From the mid-century modern decor to the musique française. The food was fresh and tasty, with a great aesthetic to it. Also Marchesa had a great selection of wine. Definitely will be back!

    Went on Valentine's Day. Food was fine. The restaurant itself is rather beautiful and I'd say ideal for a romantic evening; however, from the waiter right down to the bussers I'd say they all had that cold efficiency you find in some of the downtown restaurants that comes off curt and incorteous. I've eaten at plenty of $$$ restaurants to know that the staff in these places can be all business, but if you want to play it that way then you cannot make mistakes, otherwise there are no redeeming qualities for your service. There were miscues in my service like extended periods of going unattended, a drink order coming 20min later without any acknowledgement of the fact, and a lack of personality from the waiter that compelled me leave this feedback. For $300 I could have spent anywhere else last night, I'd have to say I was somewhat dissatisfied.

    I don't think it's possible to explain how great Marchesa is. My SO and I came here last year for our first time, and this year our second. This is our tradition every year for Valentine's Day now. You really just need to check it out. I really believe they have something for everybody here. Whether you have the tastebuds of a child or the reformed pallet of a wine connoisseur, there is delicious food for all.

    We started with the escargot which was extremely flavorful and delicious. I ordered the half chicken with mashed potatoes and wilted spinach. My girlfriend ordered the salmon and Brussels sprouts. Absolutely amazing. This was probably one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Chicago. And it was her birthday dinner. Amazing experience. Drinks in the champagne cave in the basement. Couldn’t have asked for more!

    I love this place!! Everytime we dine here I say to my husband we need to visit Marchesa more often! It is always an excellent experience! It's a beautiful room and the food never disappoints! Go!!!!

    Went for restaurant week. Food was pretty good. Salad average, duck great, dessert was an okay white mousse. The cocktails were great. Overall good food experience. But WORST service ever. From beginning felt we were being ridiculed and talked down to. Waiter only visited us about 4 times and each was bad. When ordering drinks he mocked choices we made and said we didn’t know what we were talking about bc we couldn’t find a Sauvignon Blanc on menu. At first we were like whatever. Then he mocked one of our party for ordering risotto and not something more french. But again we just tried to have fun. Dishes were slow and there was a 30-40 minute gap from taking our plates away till dessert. In that time he brought the check and we asked when we could expect the dessert we ordered. He said he would not give us dessert until we paid bc he wanted to turn the table over and didn’t want us to take our time. Felt like our dessert was held hostage and made us feel like the wait was our fault? But then when we paid he brought us the check and had handwritten the tip and total already. We were at party of 4 and know this happens sometimes. But it felt really uncomfortable that he hand wrote a 35% tip for himself after being rude and holding food from us

    While the Chicago restaurant week deal was a fun reason to come check out this place, I don't think I'll go back. It was $42 for an appetizer, entree and dessert, which is definitely a good deal based on typical a la carte prices, but I couldn't believe the typical prices based on the food quality. Their bowl of mushroom soup is $14, and while it was good, it was very far from being worth that price. I had the duck as an entree and the texture/chewiness just wasn't nearly as good as duck I've had before. The ambience was definitely cute and romantic, although the French/Euro theme was strong and a little bit overplayed. The servers were very nice and even offered coat check, which was a nice touch.

    Dining at Marchesa is a wonderful experience. The food is excellent, the service impeccable, and the ambience quite romantic. Venture downstairs in the champagne cave for drinks and you will make a resolution to return to Marchesa for every special occasions, dates, or events. Wonderful experience, indeed!

    This place is amazing. It's located in a beautiful building on Wells. The interior design is funky, but warm. The service is fantastic at every step. Most importantly, every thing I've eaten there has been amazing. My favorite is the classic beef bourguignon. And check out their incredible take on burrata.

    The restaurant is very lovely, the food is decent, but the service was the ONE OF THE WORST I've ever experienced. As soon as we sat down the server came over and said, you have the table for 2 hours (which he repeated 2 more times before we ordered anything), we are very busy and we have another reservation after you. A good server would not say such unwelcoming horrible things to the customer and would know to work the table to move things along. Others around us far exceeded the 2 hours, we were one of the first tables to be pushed out. He constantly came to us and asked are you ready, are you ready, are you ready. Drinks were not served and we were asked to place orders, my husband was parking the car due to lack of valet service and the server wanted us to place orders before he was at the table! We ordered dessert to celebrate my daughter's graduation and we were not offered any coffee or after dinner drinks. We were expecting a "fine" dining experience which along with good food should be impeccable service with a welcoming tone. We ordered a bottle of wine from the menu and of course it was not available, so he upsold us to a much more expensive bottle. He also said that we were looking at the old menu and how he was involved in making the new menu and how exciting and delicious it was going to be... I'm glad we're getting the old "crappy" menu. Why mention it at all??? Skip the Boeuf Bourginoin, it's very mediocre. This server is usually a bartender, he should stick to bartending, his serving skills need lots of work, especially for a fine dining restaurant.

    The place was very cute, but overall we were pretty disappointed. Our first clue that we may not be completely happy with the service was when we said we may need a minute to decide our mains (after we put in an order for a starter and a bottle of wine and a pint of beer) and we were given a strange excuse as to why we should put in our orders soon (something about if we don’t put in our orders in now, the food won’t come out the same?). It made us feel rushed. Then for dessert I ordered a Cabernet with the actual dessert, and instead of giving me a new glass, the man poured my Cabernet into my glass of Chardonnay. If this was a lower end, inexpensive restaurant, I may not have cared, but with this being a somewhat expensive dinner, I was a bit baffled. This was supposed to be a special occasion for my partner and I, but we were definitely disappointed. Not bad, but not worth the price.

    This is our third time dining at Marchesa. We always enjoy the ambience. The food is wonderful with a combination of old world favorites and new ideas. The wine list is quite good and the bar has all you can imagine. The service is friendly and capable. We will indeed continue to eat here.

    When I say EXCELLENT, I mean it! I’m not just throwing stars up there to light the sky. MARCHESA is truly EXCELLENT in all regards. Extensive menu, delicious food, beautiful interior, and Francisco’s service couldn’t have been more friendly and personable. Loved it, and so will you.

    Philippe provided incredible service as always and the food was exquisite. Everything was perfectly cooked and featured classically French flavors. The atmosphere is inviting and interesting to look at while soothing, upbeat French music fills the room.
