We went for the NYE tasting menu which on paper looked amazing. However every course was extremely rich and larger than I’m used to for a tasting meal. It was so rich and so much I couldn’t finish the meal. On top of that there was at least 20 minutes between courses. I thought six courses 2 hours no 3 hours and 15 minutes later I was asking to box my dessert and for the bill. I would go back to try the regular menu and sit at the bar maybe get better service.

Five course chef sampler did not disappoint. The opening course of pickled beets, huckleberry, orange custard was incrediblely delightful and perhaps the most memorable simply because I expected nothing from it. Textures , balance of flavors...everything I was hoping to experience, it was all there.

We tried the restaurant for the first time in search of a tasting menu for a birthday dinner. The day after Thanksgiving the restaurant was fairly quiet, and the space felt intimate. The staff treated us like good friends and honored guests from start to finish. Our 5 course tasting menu became 7 courses as a courtesy, with an amazing squab dish that I'm glad we didn't miss. The kitchen gracefully accommodated a vegan guest, an allergy and an 11-year old. Every course was very good and some were magnificent, particularly the smoked salmon starter, the pork belly, aforementioned squab and madeleine dessert. The cocktails were the best we've had since Beaker & Flask, a prior Portland favorite, closed its doors. Our server could not have been more kind and offered an appropriate level of attention: not hovering but always there when needed. We liked that the dishes were served family-style--a nice injection of informality in a tasting menu--and our only nitpick (extremely minor) is that clean plates should be provided between each course so the flavors don't mix. All in all, a really standout experience for us!

Overall excellent meal, although the service was spotty. The appetizers, bread and olives were uninspired, but the mains and small plates were all excellent. The lamb was well flavored and tasty, the black cod was beautifully presented and also flavorful. Only complaint was perhaps a bit too salty, but this is typical for restaurants in PDX.

I came for the bavette steak and was absolutely delighted. I also enjoyed the oyster on a half shell and delicious Spanish wine. Nothing short of fantastic ! I will absolutely return and hopefully as soon as possible.

The restaurant was blessedly quiet. I'll say that again, the restaurant was blessedly quiet. There was music, but it was background music. No booming bass, and we could have a conversation. Sigh--How I wish that more restaurants would do this. The service was great, but we were kind of early, so not too many customers. Oh and the food was good, and creative. Price was on the high side of fair, but I would gladly pay it again, just to be able to talk to the other people at my table.

Rue is uncommonly excellent. Took my Sweetie there last night for her birthday and we were both very impressed. We had the family style meal. It was a wide array of amazing and wildly creative dishes. We left the wine selection up to the staff and were very pleased with how well it all worked together. If you have time for a real, multi-course, French inspired meal, this place will exceed your expectations. If not, just two or three of their dishes will be enough to experience the magic that emanates from Rue's kitchen and you'll be back for more. Most memorable were the charred beets, the duck breast, the brandade croquettes, and you MUST have the grilled octopus. The menu is transient, so I'm sure we'll find more gems next time.

Our waitress has clearly not learned that less is more... she came over to our table about 10 times to many. I think I remember her more than our friends we were trying to dine with. She has not been properly taught to wait tables at this level of a restaurant.

The food was superb. The service was even better. Our server’s name was Adria. My husband and I had the oysters (fresh with an iced mignonette and fresh horseradish), fois gras terrine, pan fried sweetbreads (moist and delicious), and then the moscovy duck breast (succulent and cooked to a perfect medium rare temperature). This place is a Portland gem.

Enjoyed the service, cocktails, and food. Very nice setting. We were there for an early reservation and the noise level definitely picked up as the place filled but was not an issue. Staff was accommodating with a few small gluten free modifications. Plan to go back.

We were looking for a "Portland" dining experience and this was perfect. They serve small plates from a limited menu but everything was exceptional. The dishes were imaginative and prepared & presented with attention to the smallest detail. I was amazed at how good a simple bibb lettuce salad could taste if you start with the freshest of lettuce and add just a little of the right ingredients. Outstanding service, too.

My friend had the potato leek croquettes and the skirt steak. The croquettes had great flavor and the steak was cooked perfectly. I had the butter lettuce radish salad and the gnocchi with eggplant and grilled peppers. The salad was very refreshing and had a nice light vinaigrette. The gnocchi was very flavorful, but the portion was small and the waitress should have explained that the eggplant was puréed into a sauce for the gnocchi.

Great place for foodie! Start with a cocktail and enjoy the European menu: a la carte, you will find Spanish gazpacho, French Steak frites and Italian Gnocchi. Their selection of wine is extended and at all prices. I recommend this place for a nice dinner or date.

Went in a date here and had really creative small plates and wonderful cocktails. Not a lot of vegetarian options, but we were glad to try lots of the proteins. Our server was very sweet and a little playful. The space was big and open and beautiful. Will definitely coming back and recommending!

We have been to rue a number if times. Akwdys delighted with food and service. Excellent cocktails. Server attentive and personable. Shared a couple of side dishes...all excellent. We all had the coulotte steak with frites. Yum!
