My wife and I love the scenery of Mattie's, and we believed it to be a great choice for our wedding anniversary. Far from. Upon walking in, the hostess quickly sat us down inside without asking about preference. We asked to be moved outside. Our waiter was distant and uninterested, not fitting for a restaurant of Mattie's caliber.

We missed the ambience of Green Pastures-relaxed, elegant and comfortable. While Mattie's is nice, with some of the old Texas ambience, it is clearly a modern place. This attempt to go modern with good Southern food was disappointing. The service was excellent. Noise level very loud.

Our food was great but 3 people in our group ordered the fried chicken and none of us could finish our meal. I wish our server would have told us that 3 of us could share 2 orders of the friend chicken (but I guess he was just trying to jack up his tip). Additionally, our dinner felt rushed. I wanted to enjoy a relaxing meal with my family and it seemed like they just wanted us out of there ASAP. Drinks were great and the environment is great (feels like a step back in time).

This was my first visit since Green Pastures closed for renovation. I very much enjoyed Mattie's. Much lighter and more casual in decor than before, really good food. Could have wished for better lighting in the back dining room...even at 6 P, not easy to read the menu. Milk Punch is still on the menu!

We went for my girlfriend’s mom’s birthday and they were kind enough to give a small gift (tea leaves) and also a birthday cake and candle. The food was excellent - I highly recommend the duck.

Service was solid at initial service then slid downhill as our meal progressed....could not get our waitress’ attention to bring a special dessert for celebration of my mother’s 80th Birthday....the evening went too long due to that & we just gave up on dessert. I made it clear on my reservation that this was a special 80th Birthday celebration & the waitress did nothing to make the occasion special at all. Love the ambience & food was excellent. Service needs improvement.

Over priced food for the quality. I expected better service, felt more like I was at some chain. The grounds are amazing, but that is were it stops. My wife had been wanting to go there for a while, so it was sad that we had the experience we did.

Went to Mattie’s for Sunday brunch with the kiddos and it was delightful. The setting is like a mansion/farmhouse. The food was delicious and filling! The kids enjoyed it too. I would bring the family back for Sunday brunch or dinner.

Having dined at Green Pastures with family since I was a child in the 50’s, it was a treat to experience it’s current renovation. The historical home was beautifully redone, and the food was creative enough for the setting and delicious. It was easy to visit in the small dining room-until the bar filled up. Need to separate dining from bar area for acoustics. Otherwise, a casually elegant place to eat with peacocks wandering around the grounds,

Mattie's was such a wonderful experience. The food and drinks are spectacular, and the environment is relaxed and sophisticated. We liked the upstairs bar a lot, and really enjoyed the beautiful peacocks and outdoor seating. We will be back and will be bringing friends!

Everything about our experience at Mattie's was wonderful - The restaurant and grounds are beautiful, the food was great (even for those with dietary restrictions) and the entire staff was friendly and helpful from beginning to end. Highly recommend!

Overall we had a nice evening celebrating our sons bday just being together however The food was lacking! My husbands fried chicken was not crispy and the potatoes were cold . My duck Gumbo ... no duck ! They were unable to serve our meals properly only 4 at our table and they served our side Oder of “rainbow carrots “ that turned out to be shaved carrots to another table , we requested extra bread for our starter and received it after our main course was finally served. Beautiful setting the kitchen and wait staff needs work.

I had the fried chicken, and it was excellent; however, no one really needs to eat 1/2 of a chicken for any meal. Cut that by 1/2. Even the two pieces were enormous. The portions were more along the lines of franchise family style. I thought the size of your portions would get me excited about dessert, but the dessert was stingy, and you know people split those. So I ate 1/2 of a large chicken and lilliputian cake. All of it delicious, but the balance was way off. When I return, I know to split the entree and have my own dessert.

Excellent service. The management and wait staff went above and beyond seating and serving us on our anniversary. Ribs were delicious. Best biscuits I've ever had. The surroundings are gorgeous and everyone there is dedicated to making sure the customer is happy. And they actually have parking.

My favorite part of the restaurant was the building/grounds - it was beautiful! The history of Matties is fun and overall the food was good. A couple of items had a bit more spice than expected, otherwise everything would have been 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit!

Great food, attentive service, pleasant ambiance, and an absolutely beautiful and stunning space. Bring a couple hours, your credit card, and get one of everything, it's worth it. Before you leave, make sure you pour out a mimosa for their departed peacock.

The only negative I have to say is about their Buttermilk Biscuits appetizer. for $8 you get two biscuits... really. I think you should lower the price or offer more biscuits.
