The lunch choice is limited. Need more non-alcohol drinks
The menu has really improved and the wine list is reasonably priced. The drinks (a Manhattan and vodka martini) were very small, served in unusually small glasses half the size of a regular cocktail anywhere else. The order taking server was fantastic. The expediter/food deliverer was horrible. She approached the table and in the middle of what was obviously an active conversation just interrupted and started talking. The rest of the meal was marred by that experience which was extremely rude.
We may return but it will be a while.
Fish and chips were overfired. There was hardly even any fish. Tried removing the fry...but alas there wasn’t any fish not crisped to the fry. Left hungry & are somewhere else. Because I want going to feed my body chips for dinner.
We decided to bring our out of town guests here even though we had never been here before. I assumed that it would be as good as The Heathman used to be but I was wrong. The wait staff was very nice but the food was underwhelming. The fish was overcooked and the salad was bland. Very expensive and disappointing dining experience. We will not be back.
Enjoyable dinner option prior to symphony. Unique seafood choices.
We did like the ambiance. The newer, modern look is very appeasing. The staff was courteous and food was served promptly. The room echoes and we could hear the tables next to us very loudly. It has a limited menu, small portions for the price range. We ordered an entree including a piece of fried pork belly (2bites) with two scallops. They were both overcoooked. The poke on the appetizer menu, however, was delicious.
Went for a quick breakfast while in town on business. They have the best smoked fishes and seafoods to choose from. Nice bistro style atmosphere and friendly service.
Delicious food. Modern with a sophisticated classic twist!
Happy reception and waitress. Managed a large crowd for the theatre with tact. Food was delicious and something for vegetarians and meat eaters in group. Fish amazing
Great food, service and atmosphere! We had a very delicious wedge salad with the option of a crab cake. Really good! We ordered the flatbread along with our salads and we received a generous serving for the two of us. For dessert, we had the "fried milk" to share. It was just the right amount of sweet and we heartily recommend. We were dining prior to attending a performance at a nearby concert hall and the waiters were very aware and made sure we were on time.
We cheated a bit and went to Southpark Seafood for a drink and some oysters before Headwaters. The cocktails were original and tasty and the selection and freshness of the oysters was superior to Headwaters. Our main courses were good at Headwaters, but the service was unfortunate. Our waitress did not write things down and forgot plenty. We never received the shrimp cocktail we ordered and had to remind her about drinks.
Overall a mediocre experience with a 4 star price
the restaurant wasn't crowded but the service, for fine dining, lacked. There was little attention paid by our main server and our plates were served by different people. Also, we told them upon making the reservation that it was our anniversary and there was no acknowledgment.
Average food that with the associated venue and price points, we expected better. Fish was over cooked but local and presented well. No accompaniments. The pasta dish was under done. Just minimum quality. Celebrated a notable occasion that wasn't acknowledged. Expected so much more. Been a fan of the Heathman for almost 3 decades and the associated restaurant. Disappointed.
Zach is an outstanding bartender!! He recommended the old fashioned drink a must try which he made to perfection!
Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Real table linens. And quiet! We could actually hear each other talk without yelling!
I had the crab cake for lunch and it was the best I have ever eaten.
Way too loud. Way too expensive. The drinks were teeny tiny. The fish we ordered was promised to be medium rare but arrived over cooked and dry. The second try was totally raw. We had to leave and find another place to eat. Luckily the manager offered not to charge us.
Wait person too friendly. Food fair. Undercooked....sent it back, still undercooked. Ice cream was a single tiny scoop...kind of hollow. Wasn’t even a full scoop. Extremely expensive. I think Headwaters is surviving because of their proximity to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Very disappointing
As always, excellent food and service from beginning to end. Love the poke and sturgeon tartare.
wife's dinner was great but my dinner was an experiment in disaster. Who in God's name put this dinner together of Afredo, mushrooms and chicken. It was much too rich and left an after taste that was uncomfortable.
I took two bites and got sick immediately. I did not let the staff know because they were so graceful and i did not want to hurt their feelings. I just will not come back order anything from your dinner menu.
Your chef is too creative with some dishes and it destroys the flavor and presentation.
The meal was excellent. We were there on a Sunday evening so not all items on the menu were available. The items we selected were wonderful, served timely and overall a great experience. Now we have to return to try the items they didn’t have. We are sure they will be wonderful.
The food was excellent! Service was good.. the noise level high, too high. But I'm definitely going back because of the food.
Excellent food with a good variety to suit many tastes.
Our experience was great.. The Clam Chowder was excellent, but the Sauvie Island Salad was lacking. My salad was lacking in the components but hers was loaded. That inconsistency was disappointing. But the staff, all of them, were so friendly and efficient, a pleasure. I would recommend the Headwaters again and again...........Thank you
After prior great experiences here, we brought our friends for dinner. Will not be back. Had to ask for service, several dishes unimpressive, minuscule $16 appetizer was barely 4 bites. Felt shortchanged for our night out and embarrassed we recommended to our friends.
Very nice restaurant in the heart of the theatre district of downtown Portland. My spouse ordered the halibut plate which he seemed to enjoy; however, the side of new potatoes were not to our liking. I had ordered the scallops which were not cooked sufficiently to my taste. Nevertheless, they were very amenable to searing them to the point where I was happy with the consistency and thoroughness of cooking. This was partially my own fault since I tend to enjoy very well done seafood dishes.
The wine was very good and the selection we chose had profits that went to a good cause. Nice touch.
Overall, not bad, not great. Would give a second try should we ever get the opportunity to do so.
My expectations probably should have been a little lower for Symphony night, but I found the food to be just OK, particularly compared to other restaurants I frequent. Also I ordered a bottle of fairly expensive champagne, and it came out at cellar temperature rather than cold. I didn’t mind that, but my dining companion was disappointed.
I have had a better experience at the bar for happy hour, and would go back for that. But I probably wouldn’t have dinner here again.
Seafood was flavorless and overpriced for the small quantity. Salad was fresh and pretty but also bland.
I was so disappointed because it was our anniversary dinner prior to the symphony.
Noise level unacceptable- host staff was rude- service lacking- Kir Royal flute was sticky - not what I expected opening night at Symphony
Very poor service. So slow that the “manager” offered us a free dessert but by that time it was time to leave for our theater event.
Also, paid $34 for a very small, mediocre tasting halibut and a few pieces of vegetables that were cold.
Very disappointing experience, especially for the price. It’s not worth having the proximity of the theater next door. I won’t be returning. Too bad, because I do enjoy the Heathman.
Good place to eat before an event at Arlene Schnitzer Auditorium. We were there early (5:30 pm) and before we left the place was packed. The waiter was very personable, asked if we had a show, and was prompt and attentive despite the crowd. The food was good but forgettable -- my fettuccine was undersalted and the combo shrimp and crab claw appetizer had little flavor, probably from being frozen (although the cocktail sauce was good.) My companion's meal was very good however, so perhaps I ordered the wrong things. Will try again.
Made reservations at 5:45pm but got there early & they seated us right away. Spent 1.5 hours having a cocktail, appetizer, dinner, and wine - with the requisite coffee afterward. This was before attending Lily Tomlin at the Schnitz. Just a wonderful, wonderful time. Great food, great atmosphere, superior service, wouldn't have changed a thing!
The waiter was attentive, the atmosphere was great, but the food was raw and very over priced for the amount served.
The french fries that came with the fish & chips were limp and tasteless, sorry to say.
The menu was quite limited, and the rack of lamb that was shown on the menu online was not offered the night we were there. But the food was very good, our waitstaff was very attentive, cocktails a reasonable size and price, although the martini was pretty small - we'd definitely come back and would recommend this restaurant to our friends.
Good imaginative food with freshness and very good service. I would go back soon.
don't get the paella more rice than anything - very disappointing
The biggest positive here is its closeness to the theaters.
Headwaters is a great place for Sunday bruch. We were staying at a close by hotel and found this place by accident. But we are glad we did. The avocado toast with fresh Dungeness crab was delicious. The Dungeness crab cake eggs Benedict was divine. And the coffee was top notch.
King salmon entree was awesome.
