What Insiders Are Saying
The Preservery isn't doing anything particularly unique, but they are doing things Denver likes very well.
Hosts and servers were very attentive. Food was amazing - highly recommend the creole shrimp and grits. Noise level was a bit loud for our aging crew (get off my lawn!), but it was Saturday night, so kinda comes with the territory...I wouldn't hesitate to go back on a weeknight when presumably it wouldn't be quite as loud.
There is an automatic 15% gratuity added to all meals. We added an additional 5% to that.
Service: we had a group of 5 people last night for my friend's birthday. I'd mentioned it was her birthday when OpenTable asked if it was for a special event. I also mentioned it to the person seating us when we arrived for the reservation and asked if there was anything special they had. She responded "we have candles..." Um, ok. I'd also mentioned it was my friend's birthday to the waitress. After our meal, the waitress brought our bill w/out asking us if we would like any dessert. When I asked about dessert, she pointed to a case where we could go up and look at what they had ourselves. The desserts were chosen and brought to the table, but were unimpressive. This isn't what this place specializes in, clearly.
Drinks: we sat at our table and were able to get drinks in a timely manner. The drinks were good.
Food: we all tried something different and shared our dishes. Good food. I ordered the burger and I have to say that there is an INORDINATE amount of meat in the burger. There's, like, 4 patties of wagyu beef and then shredded pork on top of that. Honestly, it's just not necessary to have THAT much meat. I found that it affected the whole burger experience b/c I couldn't even pick it up. The bun? Not a fan. Boring. It was hard and difficult to cut up. The fries came extra crispy, as requested, but weren't as hot as they should be. Not the biggest issue and I still ate a fair amount of them. I think the dish is more about the visual effect, rather than the actual experience. I ordered it b/c it looked amazing, but trying to eat it was a chore.
My friend ordered the ribeye steak and THAT was very good. The butcher block it came on is entirely too small, though, especially when it comes on massive broccoli florets that ended up hanging off and touching the table when placed in front of him.
I'd give this place another chance, but the first time wasn't amazing.
Beautiful place, but the food was not impressive whatsoever.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a really varied selection of menu items. Loved the homemade sourdough!
We like this place and keep going back with our friends. If you live in RiNo this place is a gem. If you don't live in RiNo, you still need to go there.
Always excellent. This is one of our "go to" locations to share with friends and family.
All of food was very peppery...inedible. No kids menu.
No complaints about the food. I have been a few times and the food is always delicious. Pretty expensive for what you get, so this is definitely an occasional restaurant for me. Maybe a great date night spot? Local ingredients and great menu options.
Their World Famous Chicken is not world famous. If we are ranking World Famous as a 10, I would give this a 2 on the scale with a 1 being undercooked. Very misleading and won’t be returning.
The food was not great, the service was bad and it was very expensive.
They were slammed and under-staffed. Probably the worst service I have ever experienced. They did their best to recover, but such a bummer for a special birthday!
We enjoyed the food and the thoughtfulness behind quality ingredients for fair prices. The kale caesar salad is very good and I’m not a huge salad person. The mac and cheese is smoky and delicious.
The menu is full of fan favorites but with enough culinary experimentation to pull you out of your comfort zone. I have been very happy with everything I have tried. The environment is exceptional. Great place for a date night or a night out with friends.
The food at the Preservary was wonderful! The big issue my whole group had was with the “bottomless” mimosas. The restaurant had maybe 2 or 3 other tables seated eating brunch and our waitress came by to fill our glasses maybe 2-3 times each. There were multiple times when our glasses were empty. I don’t mean to be picky but if a place has a 2 hour limit on bottomless, our glasses better be bottomless.
We really wanted to like the mac-n-cheese but it was very salty and had to send it back (the pasta was good and it was cheesy though). We then got the small meat/cheese board, which was nothing special (brie, white cheddar, 2 salamis, good grilled bread). My date got the crab crakes, which we were told were lump crab and not much breading but the crab was mostly shredded, tasted good though with the sauce on top. I had the lamb meatballs with smoked gouda grits and it was really good (took 1/2 home). It is a very noisy place, hard to have a conversation. WATCH OUT FOR THE 15% FAIR WAGE TAX THEY AUTOMATICALLY ADD TO YOUR BILL!! It is stated on the bottom of the menu but you may miss it. I don't agree with it.
My girlfriend and I met at the Preservery for brunch this Saturday. The host was nice and the ambiance is great. However, the bartenders were terrible. Bad attitude, seemed inconvenienced to serve us, had to ask several times for refills on the bottomless mimosas. Food was overpriced and not very tasty. Probably won't be going back which is a bummer because it has potential to be really great! Step up the service and keep the eyerolls at home.
The service was outstanding! Loved our waiter. The food was also excellent except for my potato croquettes which were cold. Everything else was very tasty though!
This was my first visit to Colorado and being a foodie me and my GF decided to try this restraint out due to it being hyped up by Chef Coop who I’d had me out in town. As per Coop’s suggestion I made a reservation through Open Table; however, when I showed up to the restaurant my reservation was canceled. Instead of helping me or trying to look into the issue I was smugly turned away by the hostess and told to make another reservation with open table again ...but for an hour later. I was taken back for a sec since this is the first time anyone in CO was blatantly rude to us. Being that the options were limited in the area and Coop hyping the food so much we made the ADDITIONAL reservation. The food took a while to come out and we only saw our waitress once. The people filling the water and bus boy was more helpful then our server. I wish I could’ve just tipped him instead. Food was good. Had a home cooked style. But in my opinion it was overhyped. We split some calamari. I had the Mac n Cheese and Coops World Famous Wings, while my gf had one of the burgers. Take away food was decent. Service was trash.
The fact they don't A La Cart the whole menu is a huge plus. You actually get a full and filling meal. The chicken was crisp on the outside and juicy in the middle. Broccoli was fresh and crisp. Crab cakes were good, but could use more seasoning. The only issues was that the music was blasted and it was so loud everyone had to tell at each other. The steak was a bad cut. Awesome flavor but 60% tendon you could not eat.
Loved this spot. We had a vegan for brunch and they could really only do toast. Otherwise amazing!
Took our aging parents there on an open table reservation. They certainly wouldn’t have ventured into that neighborhood if I hadn’t recommended it. And we were all glad I did.
At first when we walked (or slowly caned) in- it was awkward as we were clearly the only people over 30. But they treated us with kindness & it wasn’t a big deal.
The food was fabulous (& though I didn’t ask) appeared to be locally grown.
The vibe was young & hip, but also multi-cultural and caring. I’m glad we went there, and also glad we didn’t turn away when we realized the parents weren’t the median age.
Way overpriced and LOUD! I even called a few days before to see if there was going to be a band and was told no. There was a very loud mixer music live dude there. I was with a party of six and we couldn’t hear to have a conversation.
Food was okay but WAY overpriced. If you want a $32.00 hamburger than this is the place for you.
They did have a nice drink menu.
We had reservations for 6 for brunch. Everything was great until the DJ started and we could no longer have a conversation. The waitress could not even take our order without getting a lot of yelling and effort. It would have been nice to have gotten a heads up that a DJ was going to play. The space is cool but small - maybe a DJ is not a great idea.
Great venue in the RINO District of Denver. We were able to get a 6:45 reservation for 6 on a busy Saturday night. The food is farm to table & fresh. Everyone enjoyed their dining experience from the fish, shrimp & grits, to the pasta.
Average food for Denver.
This was the best restaurant we went to in Denver, the staff was amazing , the chef was amazing, three of us had the lamb burger and it was the best thing ever. The flavors were amazing then the chef brought out rose, raspberry jam and it was amazing. I would totally recommend this place to anyone visiting or who already lives in Denver.
Was very impressed! Had the bourbon glazed ribeye and was very good! There’s something very positive about a small restaurant when the chef comes to each table to ask how the patrons food turned out. If you are in the RINO district would recommend this eatery. FYI parking can be a tad tough!
The food was delicious. The staff was super nice. It was a little loud but it didn’t take away from the experience. Shrimp & grits were AMAZING!!! Holy Gouda!
First time here and it didn’t disappoint: great food and service, cool interior and location.
Use to live in Denver. Found The Preservery online and had a delightful lunch with my daughter there. We sat at the indoor/outdoor bar on a beautiful sunny Denver day.
Not my favorite restaurant, but not the worst either. The wait staff was arrogant and dismissive. The food was overpriced. The drinks were okay. We ordered the cheese and meat plate and were disappointed in its size and it’s offerings. For the large, it only had four or five slices of meat and a sprinkle of cheese. One of my party ordered a rose wine, and ended up getting the wrong one, even though there are only two on the menu and had very dissimilar names. Instead of apologizing and getting the right one, the server asked if she was okay with the wrong one. The strangest part, and probably the most aggravating, was the 15% fair wage surcharge added to the bill AND a line for a tip. If the fair wage substitutes for a tip, be clear in explaining this on the menu and take the tip line off the receipt.
THe Buffalo cauliflower was amazing and a large enough portion for dinner and the spicy margarita type drink was incredible!
Great Restaurant that provided vegetarian and gluten free options. Would come back again.
The smoked gouda shrimp and grits was amazing!! Awesome cocktails too!!
Good food! Sirloin salad was very tasty, lamb meatballs were a hit, veggie pasta had way to much Pesto and garlic, swimming in oil at the bottom.
Service was attentive and good. Fun cocktails. Very open restaurant, high ceilings, with the music was hard to hear. Will try lunch here instead of dinner next time.
Despite the lack of street parking near the restaurant, there were plenty of tables available when we arrived at a weekend peak hour. Service is quick, friendly, and attentive throughout the meal, and the food is absolutely delicious! The value is as expected for a higher-end place like this, with one drink and one plate totalling about $30 per person. An energetic ambiance and lively vibe keeps things casual and hip.
Great service, cool atmosphere, the band was very fun. My wife's mac and cheese was really good, I had the roasted veggie salad which was a huge heap of greens with very little else in it. (Disappointed yes). We had a good time and will return again.
Not a great meal/experience. Would not recommend. They were out of most cocktails and beers on a Saturday night and the service was very slow and did not listen to any requests made when ordering.
20% tip included= terrible service. A $32 burger with tough meat and fat, undercooked fries. The roasted veggie salad was amazing but not enough to make up the difference. I’ll not be returning.
Great food, great drinks & awesome atmosphere with live band! Highly recommend!
