Great food, nice decor, good cocktails. Most tender pork shoulder I’ve ever had.
The only problem was the surprising number of unruly children and screaming babies. I can’t really blame the restaurant for that, though it was beyond the level where some polite intervention is called for.
Very good food, outstanding staff and we will go ahead.
Great atmosphere and friendly service. Excellent cocktails. Unfortunately the food from the kitchen needs work. We were there on a special night- election and Blast from the past which gave a choice of 3 t.v. dinners. I was looking forward to it but must say that the old "Swanson" fried chicken t.v. dinners were better than this! Finn Town served a breaded cutlet with terrible seasoning and overpowering. Bland, white sauce on top. Sort of like a chicken fried steak but bad. Also the butterscotch pudding with my husband's dinner was almost all cream foam in the dish. Not good. We will return and try another night because we like the place.
The appetizers were great and the people friendly, but the meal was awful. Neither of us ate ours, and the person at the next table did not eat their dinner either. "Fried chicken" was a patty of some sort of ground meat or non-meat product, impossible to tell. It was extremely spicy and garlicky, deep fried patty, and covered in a white gravy. Bizarre that anyone would consider that fried chicken. Inedible. Overall our bill as $144, which would have been fine if the food was good or even decent. Skip Finn Town unless you're only getting a beer and some atmosphere. Too many good places for dinner to have this kind of experience.
Can’t say enough about what a wonderful time we had at The Finn Town Tavern. Deviled eggs that are always spectacular. I know that sounds weird but it’s true. Fanny Farmer rolls. Never heard of these but they are wonderful and come with three flavored butters. My friends had the burgers and loved them. I had the short ribs and loved them. And our server, AJ, was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back!
Sat outside with our dog for a weekend brunch. Really enjoyed the food and service. Had the burger, benedict and coffee crumb cake. The only slight letdown was that the cake wasn't really a cake. It was more of a parfait served in a glass container...we wanted an actual cake. Tasted great though. Best fries ever too, that came with the burger.
Overall, the food and cocktails were very good. They take some risks with the food and cocktails, so there were a few misses from me. Others in my group had different opinions on these items though. For example, the deviled eggs have truffle in them. This is not on the menu. While many people love truffles, I despise them and had to give my egg away. We were there for brunch and my breakfast sandwich was great. I would come again and just not order the eggs or the Bloody Mary.
Took a friend there for brunch yesterday. The crab cakes Benedict were marvelous and the fried chicken with savory scallion was nice but could have been served with more maple syrup. The server surprised us both by bringing an apple tart a la mode w/ a candle to help us celebrate. I'll go back!
The menu is getting better. Not as good as the orginal menu from when they opened, but definitely better. Would love to see better salad options.
Went for brunch on a Saturday morning. Menu had standard fare with a twist. Food was good and well portioned. Mimosas were potent. Service was good when we were first seated. Coffee and water were refilled, food came out fairly quickly after order. But as the restaurant got filled, it was as if we didn't exist anymore. It was nice because we didn't feel rushed. But refills stopped coming. It took a while to flag somebody to get the bill, and to process payment. We thought we could have probably walked out and nobody would have noticed.
The food was such a disappointment. Ordered Steak Tartare, Duck Confit and Cauliflower. Steak tartare was not properly seasoned. Bland. And the quail egg was not poached properly. The duck was so dry. It must have been frozen prior.
Great server and staff, she/they made it so fun! Great food and atmosphere.
Love the entire crew from Branson to Jhaizono to AJ to Katrina.
They know how to show customers love.
Really love the ambiance. Cozy in The Castro. Great spot for dinner or a drink at the bar.
This restaurant is the first time I have had the experience of feeling that it should not be included on OpenTable’s list of available restaurants. Not high-quality food.
This was our second time at Finn Town. Wait staff was great, the hostess was kind and welcoming despite the frenzied crowd at the door. We waited 10 mins for our seating, despite reservations. Delicious food, excellent service, the steak was a little lightweight for the price, though. It was a good size, but thin.... still tasty though. Plan to return, for sure.
Fun Neighborhood place, excellent cocktails, friendly staff... always seem they genuinely are glad to see you. Food is spot on, good value. Good times!
Recommended by a friend and everyone was quite happy with their meal. The Caprese salad was very creative, how do get creative with such a staple...well you gotta try it. And the guys had Salisbury Steak...forget TV dinners and Mom's version, this stuff was leap's and bound's above our expectations! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Walked in and was greeted by the host who inquired if we had a reservation. Indicated yes we did, he walked away, started two seperate conversations and then answered the telephone. After at least 5 minutes had passed, we were again approached by the same person and asked if we had a reservation. Table service was ok, nothing spectacular. We ordered the cheese fontina appetizer which was very good, the clam chowder which was very good but way two many home made oyster crackers with a small cup of soup, and a bland french dip (Sunday special). After dinner, we were asked about dessert. We requested a dessert menu. The waitress said she would bring. The next we knew the waitress brought our check, no dessert menu, no explanation. Definitely would not return.
Started with a gin and tonic and the tonic water was completely flat. I asked the server who said they would bring me a new drink that never arrived. Appetizer spinach dip with house made crackers was one of the best food items we had. The other was the smoked tomato soup which was flavorful. Burger was a dressed up version of a Big Mac without much of an improvement. Sautéed mushrooms were oily. Dessert was too sweet and a disappointment. We didn’t order coffee because the server didn’t recommend it. The restaurant was clean and pleasant but the food was a significant disappointment.
Finn Town Tavern is one of my favorite SF restaurants and a great neighborhood restaurant in the Castro. Drinks are fabulous and food is always delicious. I've never had a bad meal here.
Service was not good at all. It took 20 minutes for our friends to get their drinks. Server forgot to place order. Server recommended to one of my guests to get the quinoa bowl.....my favorite and you must have the salmon with the dish. Okay. Dish came without the salmon. Server forgot to order the salmon. Brought the salmon after first ate the food and said sorry. We won’t charge you for the salmon. Bill came. Had the two drinks and the salmon. Worst experience in 10 times of being there.
Service was horrible. It took a long time for us to get anything ordered. Server never checked back with us at any time during the meal. The only time we saw him was for the order and the check. We noticed that the table surrounding us also had the same treatment.
The food was less than average. The biggest disappointment was the $36 ribeye steak that was a tiny skinny flat piece of meat, probably about 3 ounce or less. And the worst part, it had a huge cut down the middle of it I assume because the chef wanted to see if it was done enough. The plate looks really bad. And it didn’t taste very good at all. Not what you would expect for the most expensive entrée on their menu.
Lazy service and mediocre, overpriced food.
The server was not knowledgeable about alcohol and neglected refills or asking if we were enjoying our meal. Disappointing.
Food, happy hour selection for drinks and food. The host was wonderful! Great service at the bar too!
Unfortunately this place has really gone down hill. The first two times I came when it was new I was wowed and the last two times were really not great. The presentation of the food has been horrible and the food itself just OK. Service was OK. Cocktails were yummy!
We have been to Finn Town several times, but our last visit, we found it so loud that conversation wasdifficult until the crowd thinned down. It was the weekend of the Folsom Street Fair, so this might have been why. The food and drinks were great.
Great experience. Interesting menu and fun service. Food was great as was the wine and cocktail list.
Very awkward seating and tables, not comfortable.
Food was good, but nothing extraordinary. Just decent Castro food.
I feel it’s still getting established, I’ll probably circle back in a year or so and try again.
Loved this place and would definitely come back again.
Great food - everything was totally divine. Ambience was great - laid back but you still feel like you are for a nice night on the town.
it was rather disappointing. Friends of mine saw on "Check Please", and introduced me to Finn Tavern. First time it was great and was impressed with the service. I went back next day after work with a colleague of mine, liked it and made a dinner reservation for a birthday of a good friend following week. To my disappointment and embarrassment, service was cold. Food was decent, but everything was loaded with salt.
I have been ordering food from Finn Town Tavern since they opened and I finally made it in for dinner.
The service, ambiance, wine list and menu are stellar.
Will be back soon
two tables seated after us we were seated were offer drinks and happy hour discounts before us. The waitress when she finally showed up told us it was to late for happy hour prices, we were seated at 6:30 server did not show up until a few moments before 7:00. Hamburger was large fries good but were the same size as tried Orphan Andy's café at double the price. I had the short ribs the portion was very small had to eat sandwich when we got home. At end of meal not offered coffee or dessert, just the check left on table, we tried to get staff attention the server returned to take everything ogg the table even the water glasses even though we were still talking. The restaurant had about 1/3 of tables and 4 people at bar. the price is high for what you get and no better than you can cook yourself at home or buy or already cooked from Safeway.
Been here 3 times and every rime i go the staff us kool and fun. Love sitting at the front bar and eating.
Went here for a date night dinner. Place is very nice and clean. The foods was good. The drinks were off...either bad alcohol or they don’t know how to mix drinks. The service was not good at all. We weren’t done with appetizer...they brought our dinner out. With everything on our table. It was hard to eat. Lol
Will we come back... maybe!
Great service and delicious food. Everyone working was very attentive and kept making sure our party was happy and that we had everything we need. Also everything was very clean, and well taken care of...bonus they had amazing music! Will definitely be returning.
The quality and taste of the food has gone way down. When this place first opened, it had a huge menu with lots of great options. Now, the menu has changed and the quality of the food is not great. I will not be dining here again, and would not recommend this place to anyone.
