Campfire has been our "go to" place especially with out of town guests, so we thought we knew what to expect. We've been there many times but our last visit was a real disappointment. Our table was directly under an air vent that blasted on top of us. We asked if we could move the table slightly to get out of the draft but were told, "no." We moved to another table adjacent to an open door and it was a cold night and we were very uncomfortable. I was offered a blanket - just what I want - to eat at a "fine dining" restaurant wrapped in a blanket
I ordered my "usual" Manhattan and asked (as I always do) for it to be very cold with an extra cherry. I was bluntly told by the server that "we don't have cherries" which I knew couldn't be true. When my drink finally came, it was not at all cold and was served in a wine glass???????
Two of us ordered the shared Ribeye which we knew took time to prepare - but there is no excuse for the two other entrees to arrive prior to the Ribeye being served. It was an awkward wait for two people to either let their food get cold or start before us. When delivered, the meat was lackluster and almost flavorless - and over $70.
We've come to expect happy, upbeat servers and a staff that is warm and friendly - not confrontational. The food is usually brilliant and innovative which is why we bring out of town guests. We cooked at home the next night to which our guests said, this certainly is better than last night!
Our whole experience was uninspired and phoned in. We're hoping this was an off night - but it will give us cause to seriously think if we want to "chance it" with new guests.
The food at campfire is always just wonderful. We make an effort to try the new things on the menu because there is usually some fabulous new taste treat that we’ve never had cooked the “campfire way” before.
We really do miss the corn dessert that we enjoyed all summer. The new apple dessert is good, of course, but nothing compares to that spectacular cork creation. Our whole family hopes you bring that one back again next year.
The wagyu beef was superb and the broccoli is always great. This time we enjoyed the beets, the brassica and the leeks as our veggies. All were great. The service is always really good at campfire and the servers are friendly and helpful with menu and drink ideas.
This was our daughters birthday and they even came out with a cute complimentary dessert for her. So nice!
Great service and the food and drinks are out of this world good! My favorite was the roasted beet cocktail, so tasty and earthy. Plan to get the s’mores at the end of meal because everything is homemade including the marshmallows. Only complaint would be the serving sizes were bit small but overall, I would recommend campfire to all my friends and family.
Excellent! Recommended before this survey arrived!
One of the best meals I’ve had in years. Well done!
We had a reservation at 8pm and arrived at 7pm thinking it would take a lot longer to get to Carlsbad from San Diego that it actually did. We asked about getting seated early and they said they were running pretty true to reservation times but ended up seating us at 730pm. Great service, the staff really knew the menu and took the time to explain it all. I can’t wait to go back.
First visit to Campfire, and it was outstanding!
The beets and avocado was hard....portions small, menu was limited and did not have options that jumped out to us. Ambience was great, service was great, cocktails were good.
The menu was a bit pretentious. But the food was fantastic. It was somewhat of a challenge to be educated on the mend but once we were, great!
6th time here, very good food and service, recommended to a lot of friends, we will keep coming back, live in Scottsdale Arizona, really worth coming. Randy & Maggie
6 year anniversary! It was great!
Food and drinks were very good. Pricey, but I got what I paid for. Portions are on the small side so don't expect Claim Jumper sized meals at the Campfire. Funny, there were several in my party that broke out their phone flashlights to see the small text on the menu. It was maybe a little too dark in the tent for them.
Everything was 4.5/5 star except apple cake
This is by far the best price to quality ratio i have ever experienced in a restaurant for their sampling menu.
Their Happy Hour is a joke. They feature 4 cocktails and, if you don't like their choices, you are out of luck. There are no beer options nor wine options for Happy Hour. We walked out and went next door to a nice wine bar that WAS having wine at Happy Hour prices. Won't go back, they are pretty pompous there.
We went to the wine cellar next door for 🍷 tasting, and came over for dinner. The services was great. The food is good, but the portion is really really small. They could throw some vegetables on the dishes to make it look less tiny. We had to order the bread three times which was expensive. $6 each. Between 6 of us ( three guys and three girls) order two whole fish, Four fillets, chared broccoli, and squid. We are not big eaters but felt still a little hungry after. the photo shows is the filet. It's about 4 bites.
Hostesses were not so smart or friendly. We had reservations at 5 for outside, but it was cold and we asked to sit inside. They sat us at a side bar table with much noise - we asked to move and were told that all the other tables had reservations. We asked a waitress and she took us to the other tables and said to the hostesses that the reservations were at 7 and wouldn't be a problem. Kind of shocking! Food was great. Amazing smoked fish tray, charred oysters - yum.
Very friendly server - Maya was kind and attentive .. their duck is amazing .. also their brunch menu is reasonable they only thing about brunch that was negative - dessert was not included or served. Bummer we wanted to try their S’mores
We love Campfire. Been here many times. The food is always very good. We have tried pretty much everything on their current menu(it changes quite often, a good thing). Their chef is very talented and looking foreward to the French bistro he's opening a few doors down from Campfire. Keep in mind that this place gets super loud when busy, so expect it to be noisey. Great for group dining, but not for a quiet romantic setting. We will be back...
First we ordered oysters. I asked for briny and crisp, but got buttery. I ordered the steak. It was slightly overdone. We ordered broccoli. The server forgot to put order in and it arrived later on during the meal. The server was nice, but not totally knowledgeable about the wine list and menu. Dessert s’mores were absolutely delicious. Super LOUD atmosphere. Hard to hear, but nice dark ambience. It was not perfect and I expect more for the price and hype. However, despite the hiccups, Campfire was probably the best tasting food during our time in San Diego area.
This was our first time to Campfire and definitely coming back. The menu was varied and interesting and apparently changes. All of our selections were excellent and very attentive and friendly staff. We went early and it quickly filled up so make a reservation.
Love the ambiance. Campfire is a gem! Every drink and brunch item we ordered (almost all of them, shared between 6 people) was a knockout!
The food is very good. Portions are small, but if you’re one of those people who likes to take pics of your food then you’re all set. Service was great. Ambiance depends where you’re sitting.
From the moment we walked into Campfire, we loved everything! The ladies greeting us were very friendly and welcoming, the bartender was great, the drinks were amazing and our dinner was fabulous! We will definitely try this place again.
We had a wonderful time - great food - especially appetizers (get broccoli and potatoes!), nice conversations with restaurant staff, good service and wonderful atmosphere
Loved eating here. Food was phenomenal and the atmosphere was engaging. Fun and unique. Staff was great, helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend the S'mores!
I can honestly say that to food here change me. Our meal and cocktails left us deliciously happy. We made the trek from downtown San Diego and can say that our experience here was worth the drive.
Big up to the chef and staff. We could taste the love.
Great service, delicious food! A bit pricey, but awesome ambiance.
Great food. Wonderful service. Festive atmosphere.
Wonderful food and service
Great food and service. Much too noisy to carry on a conversation. Even the waitstaff has to shout.
Delicious little potatobites followed by small but filling and tasty snake river beef and buck
Wheat cake & ice cream? Oh yes please!
Won't be back. Hostesses were rude, even though I had an OpenTable reservation. They tried to seat us at a terrible table in the back of the restaurant (even though the restaurant was empty at that time) and I had to negotiate with them to get a better table. The food was tasty, but very small plates and a big bill. Cocktails were pretty good, though. If there's a next time, I'll stick to the bar.
Campfire was a fun place to eat, with lots of unique food to try. The portions can be a bit small, but very high quality ingredients and great flavors. It's a great spot for a date and the s'mores are fantastic!
This was my second visit, but the first for my 3 other friends. We ordered the duck, seafood pozole verde, and the broccoli with peanuts. We also got the quinoa with sous vide pear salad , the sprouted bread, and split a buckwheat cake dessert. One of us is a vegetarian, one diesn’t like fish, and two of us eat most things. We were all pleased. Drinks were 3 Speedway ales and one lemonade. Once again, a lovely meal. We sat outside, and were comfortable and it was quiet enough to share conversation without raising our vouces. Thanks again!
Hands down best restaurant in North County SD. Food is clever and unique, flavors are dynamic and balanced. Cocktails are off the charts. Staff is super nice, friendly and helpful.
Love love loce Campfire!! Have been coming since they opened - it never disappoints! My only complaint is, the restaurant gets very busy, and sometimes the main protein comes out a little later than the shareable side dishes. Other than that, the menu, the alcohol menu, and overall vibe is WONDERFUL!!!!
Came here for a work birthday lunch. We all enjoyed ourselves. Good service. Different food, but everyone said their lunch menu items tasted great. Sat 5 of us quickly and comfortably without an issue.
This is a delightful little place and deserves to excel but the food is not for everyone. I thought it would have a more varied menu and a daily special. The food was interesting and the three of us all tried something from the appetizer and the main meal. Overall, disappointed. No booze just food, and it was over 100.00-wow! that's nuts. Careful here, you might have high expectations-just go for the experience, and you decide. For us, it's not a re-visit.
Excellent dining experience! Food, drinks and service all first class!
