KOSAKA provides a unique combination of extraordinary food and an elegant appearance which fully embodies the Japanese Edomae Style.
As a Michelin star chef for the past ten consecutive years, chef Yoshihiko Kousaka is also a traditionalist in his preparation of sushi. He focuses on the seasonal assortment of exotic fishes flown in daily from Japan and sourced locally and he changes his offerings daily based on what is available at the fish market, both domestically and internationally. KOSAKA offers two omakase options: sushi only and sashimi & sushi.

Excellent high-end omakase. Chef Yoshi was just awarded 1 Michelin Star and it's definitely very well deserved.
Hands down the best sushi in NYC! Every ingredient is treated with utmost care to bring out the best in each and an added depth.
Superb in every way. A memorable occasion.
Honestly not even close to good Omakase. Small selection of fish. Everything was either to dry or over sauced. Nothing worth talking about or remembering. Way overpriced for what you get. Horrible... And I eat Omakase around the city at least once a week.
Kosaka provides an exceptional omakase experience. Small, quiet, attention to detail, superb service. Fresh delicious sushi, sublime all around.
Everything was good, I really love the ambiance. Makes you look classy and luxurious. One thing I didn’t like was that the omakase had too much wasabi in it. Everytime I eat it, it hurt my nose so much. Also, the price was little bit on the high side for omakase.
Really know nothing about food. Live baby octopus can be served as high end sushi restaurant as one of sushime is really ridiculous. You can order it any other place 30 pieces for $16. Never would recommend to nobody. At least you should know more about food and stop fooling around
The ambience is really good and the japanese chef is friendly. He is always smiling and polite.
Wonderful dining experience! Highly recommended!
Incredible Omakase, great service, highly recommend
Simply the best sushi I have ever day. The fish is flown in overnight from Japan on a daily basis. The quality and freshness is unparalleled. The service was incredibly friendly. We sat at the sushi bar and the chef was incredibly charming.
Excellent quality of fish with exotic sources. The sushi chef was friendly and provided information about what was being served and its source. Very attentive staff. They took care of our special request and treated us very well.
Amazing! Omakase and the service was incredible. Will definitely be back.
Kosaka is a wonderful restaurant. We save it for special occasions due to our budget, but it's well worth the prices. It's truly the art of dining and we really appreciate the food, staff, chefs, and ambiance. We look forward to our next meal at Kosaka!
Expensive for the menu you get. There are many other better options in NYC of better quality for the same price.
PERFECTION!!! Absolutely sublime omakase in one of the chicest rooms in town.
one of the top sushi restaurants in nyc. chef Yoshi is a sushi Zen master! omakase should be eaten at the bar for the authentic experience. each dish was a work of art and delicious. the urchin platter was from Santa Barbara and Hokaido both magnificent chef proudly served cheeks of fatty bluefin proclaiming "this is very rare".
more like dining in Japan than NYC. a true oasis for a special experience
Incredible Omakase-only sushi spot.
The omakase was so special and loved sitting at the bar enjoying the food/art presentation! It was outstanding and I highly recommend it!
The service was excellent and great attention to detail. It was my birthday and they made the occasion very special. The front of house knew i wanted to try this sparkling sake so they replaced what they normally serve during dessert with it. it was a very thoughtful touch. i would definitely recommend making the reservation for the sushi bar and ordering the sushi omakase over the sushi/sashimi omakase. Just my preference though. all the fish were extremely fresh and although the nigiris were traditional style, the choice of ingredients were inventive. the o-toro nigiri was actually o-toro kama, which is from the cheek of the tuna so the texture and mouth feel was especially enjoyable. the sake list was great as well.
This is what the good quality sushi would cost. But one would never regret dining here. The amuse (tamago tofu) was excellent, dashi jelly was a bit too salty to my taste. Finished with refined desert, great touch of contemporary cuisine, as it did not finish with typical red-bean or green tea themed desert.
Good! Thank you for excellent service
My husband and I had a very happy time.
Traditional Japanese Omakase. Chefs are knowledgeable and have a sense of humor.
There are four tables and a sushi bar. This place is small! I admire the intimacy, but it may not be for everyone.
$150 for the omakase; either 15 pieces of sushi or 7+8 sashimi/sushi. The courses come out with bookend amuse bouche; edamame, mushroom soup, and dessert with tea. I was ravenous and by the end of the meal, totally full from this.
The food itself was good. I’ve had better, more fresh sushi and tender sashimi, but I liked this place for the innovation. A standout dish was the uni and caviar over rice, followed by a sushi with raw sea scallop, lime and jalapeño foam. Presentation across the board was beautiful. The sashimi plate did not move me. Of the eight options, I really loved the shrimp; as someone who typically despises, I couldn’t believe it tasted like butter! The selection was impressive, but quality was gamey and not well seasoned. Overall, the sushi was superior.
I do have to compliment the mushroom soup after the meal. A simple clear broth, with intense smoky flavor, filled with delicate mushrooms. It was so simple and one of my favorite moments of the night.
Amazing. Loved all of it.
We visited Kosaka for my best friend's birthday. We ordered an Omakase with a sake pairing. The food was outstanding. However, its sake pairing was alright. I would probably order a bottle of sake instead next time. While the food was excellent, the service was very poor for the price we paid. It seemed like the staff we had was under training. They were nice but made a few mistakes from being indecisive to where to sit us in the beginning to displaying sushi in a wrong order. It wasn't the professionalism you'd expect for a meal that costs at least $250 per person.
Delicious, even from this sushi connoisseur’s viewpoint. Traditional style but incredibly fresh and carefully crafted from Chef Yoshi Kousaka who brought the Michelin Star to Jewel Bako. Now his Eponymous restaurant minus the “u” continues with excellent service, even better grades of fish, and a warm, quiet atmosphere in a comfortable West Village neighborhood location. Highly recommended!
What a treat! A special sushi Gem in the West Village. The staff and service was superb, and the fish melted in your mouth. Traditional with some unique touches by the chef. LOVED the meal and will definitely be back.
Sit back and let the master sushi chefs make your dinner the best you have ever had. No need for wasabi or soy sauce, each bite is perfectly seasoned. If you love sea urchin, Uni, this is nirvana.
Thank you so much for good food and good service.
Amazing experience will definitely be back!
One of the best Omakasa's I've had in NYC. Excellent service and of course the sushi, the space is very intimate and romantic. Chef Kurosawa was incredible!
Excellent omakase of sashimi and sushi, with service to match.
Absolutely fantastic dining “experience” - subtle luxury that was just the perfect getaway amidst the bustling city. Superb service with keen attention to every detail. We plan on recommending to everyone we know !
Food was excellent.
Service had a small hiccup in b/w courses which would've been moderately annoying but the staff was SO friendly and apologetic both during the short (5-10 minute) delay and after including several rounds of comped drinks.
Wouldn't hesitate to go back
Great ambiance. Amazing food. Reasonable pricing. Recommend omakase at the sushi bar
was an spectacular dinner, watching the sushiman , eating at the counter.. excellent service, and the food is amazing! humble and upscale.. thank you kosaka.
