Grey Lady - Montauk
Could not be bothered to turn off reservation system when they were closed so we made a reservation & showed up at a time that it was impossible to get in anywhere else but they were closed!! Ruined our night. Obviously they do not care about their customers.
The food was terrible. So expensive and I couldn't even eat it. I got the fish tacos and my boyfriend got the seafood platter. Fried to cover up the horrible quality of fish. Do not go!
Really enjoyed the Grey Lady in Montauk. Food was awesome, great service, super cool reggae band playing. Only minor quibble would be the drinks we ordered. Super expensive and REALLY weak and on the pricey side. Other than that this place is highly recommended. Drink beer!
It was good. Very nice server and the food was solid. Its a cute restaurant in Montauk so really nothing wrong with it. Just don't think it really deserves more than 3/5 stars. Fod came out quickly but it was a bit loud for not being that crowded.
The service was good. The drinks were good. The food was SO SPICY it was insane. The chicken sandwich had the MOST spicy sauce on it, my son couldn't eat it. 3 of us ordered the fish tacos and WHOA! beyond spicy. Everything had to be sent back. And we are OK with mildly spicy but this was nuts. So while the place was pretty, I wouldn't go back
Fun place for family at night it’s an 20 something crowd fun
Great place to have dinner and to go out! Bathroom situation was not good. Only 2 stalls for the whole place.
Food was excellent, branzino dish was a winner. Service was solid if not a little rushed. It was overpriced but I’ve been to more overpriced, and it was expected considering the location and the bougie / trendy vibe they aspire for as part of their restaurant/nightclub blend. Bathroom situation was the worst thing about the venue, it was nothing short of abysmal, took 30-40 minutes to wait on line and use restroom. I would have hung out longer and I probably wouldn’t go back until they fix this.
I had the fish tacos. I know it's trendy and it's the summer but there was such a small amount of fish in each of my two tacos. It was tasty but more of an appetizer than a meal. There was more red cabbage than anything. I would have been happier with more fish in the taco & ditch the fries. They were good but not a good side for tacos. Maybe a fresh salsa or salad.
We were checked it and asked to wait at the bar. The host did not return for 30 minutes and sat other people before us. The people he seated seemed to be younger and hipper. Overall, we seemed a little too old for the place and were definitely given the cold shoulder compared to younger patrons. We wound up leaving after waiting for 30 minutes. We will try another Grey Lady location in the future perhaps. I couldn't actually assess the food, so I gave it 4 stars, since I don't want to fault a place based on info I don't have.
We were looking for more low key restaurant iur first night in Montauk and the Grey Lady fit the bill. The outside space was nice with the high tables. The food leans toward comfort and was very well prepared. The specialty cocktails were very good. The inside can be loud so if you are looking at a more romantic feel eat outside.
I don’t understand the buzz about this restaurant. The food is very ordinary and overpriced. Very limited, boring menu. Nothing much to write home about...
Had to ask to get a server and a drink after waiting a half hour after being seated. Then waited almost an hour and a half for entrees. Also, there is an enormous line for the two unisex bathrooms. Each trip my someone in our party took 15 to 20 minutes.
VERY limited menu choices. Prices a bit higher than warranted
Great experience with friends. Everyone who works there is super attentive, they serve great food, and fun atmosphere. Will be back a million times over.
Food was good and the staff was very accommodating.
Caters to a very young crowd. Was early in the season, had dinner on a rainy night over MD weekend. Even half full, noise level was pretty high, can only imagine what it will be like at height of the season. Lots of milennials, mostly women, in white jeans and stilettos, guessing they were fueling up before hitting Surf Lodge. Staff was lovely and service was quite good, but if you are over 35, you may want to go elsewhere!
One of my favorite places to visit when I am in Montauk. The food and the spicy jalapeno margaritas are amazing! Also, love the ambiance.
First time here and not quite what we expected. More like a casual seafood “shack” with waitress service. Food was ok, lobster rolls disappointing, banana split was the worst attempt at a dessert favorite and best left off the menu. The wait staff was very pleasant which made the extra star possible. Not cheap and definitely think there are better places in Montauk. Wanted to like it more....
Amazing food: Burrata tomato salad, crab toast, fried seafood were worth every expensive penny. Only complaint: Music outside was so loud, had to yell over it while in the restaurant.
Awesome awesome food. Burata was amazing. Watermelon margarita incredible. Fresh watermelon.
Fish tacos amazing. Sea bass incredible.
Very relaxed. Great service. Great value for montauk.
Cozy spot by the water in Montouk. On a non-Friday and Sat night it's a great spot for dinner with a view. It gets a bit wild on weekends, but either way the food is really great. Limited menu, but everything is good!
The restaurant was lovely. The owner and waitstaff very friendly and accommodating. The food was quite good and the marguerita was excellent. Nice casual dining spot in Montauk
I would definitely go back
I arrived for my reservation and was told they did not have it in the system. When I showed them the confirmation email, they essentially ignored it. They kept telling me that they would look into it and just never coming back while I stood there for an hour.
While standing there, I watched them selling people tables if they agreed to a $1,000-$1,500 minimum tab. It was clear that they had decided they had such a high demand for people to get in and drink "bottle service" that they were giving away previously reserved tables in order to make as much money as possible. Why care about a customer who is coming for dinner when you have a 21 year old and his friends who will spend $1,500 just to sit at a table?
I've never seen an establishment treat patrons like this before. It was appalling. If you want to have tables available for bottle service starting at 10 PM, then fine. But don't allow people to make open table reservations past 10 PM, have them come all the way to your restaurant, and then ignore them because you've decided you have enough demand for bottle service that you don't need that table to be filled with people eating dinner.
There is nothing vegetarian on the menu. The exorbitantly priced $28 tacos came in bone dry tortillas. Wouldn't recommend for a nice dinner. Best for 21-year-olds looking to get trashed after 10pm. Management is very nice though, I do want to note that. It's just not a good dining experience for anyone over 25.
The food was absolutely amazing and if solely based on that I would've given this five stars. however the service was absolutely horrendous. We had to basically flag down servers every single time we needed to order something including the check! The only time anyone came to our table was to mistakenly offer us food that we did not even order. This happened four times not even exaggerating. Such a disappointment! if they fix their service issues I would try this restaurant again otherwise would not recommend
The service was exceptional, atmospher casual average , menu limited but excellent . The best brancini I ever had.
Flavorful but portions are small and overpriced! Service tries to compensate.
Very bad service... that's all, don't even want to comment anything else
Awful experience. Would ever go back there.
Well I booked this restaurant in the summer and received an initial confirmation email as well as a follow up email the day before...October 9th. Well imagine our surprise when we arrived to a boarded up restaurant. They closed for the season without alerting patrons. Since this was Columbus Day weekend we were stuck looking for a last minute place to eat. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL !
Made a res for 7:15pm this past friday night. was confirmed on open table and via email. showed up at the restaurant and it was closed. tried calling and phone just kept ringing, figured someone was on the other line, guess not. maybe next time.
The staff was nice but service was not good. Food was great but service needs to be improved
Love it here! Food and service are always amazing and the place is beautiful. Highly recommend and will definitely continue to come back when I'm in Montauk
The hostess was extremely kind and welcoming. But the rest bad. I felt that the music was way too loud. You're acreaming at the person in front of you. Oysters were terrific, the sea bass though was too small of a portion, most of which was the brown stripe down the middle of the fish so there wasnt much to eat there, except for a few spoonfuls of puree on literally 3-4 veggie pieces. Massive dissapointment. Waitress was all over, couldnt get her attention, and the place just seemed very over priced for the quality. It doesn't hold up value wise compared to ththe high end staples in th hamptons that have been around forever. Prices need to reflect the atmosphere and food quality/quantity. I can see this being a good casual lunch spot if it was better priced
Very expensive for what it was., but it's Montauk in season. The staff was very nice . The lobster rolls and steaks were enjoyed.
No "wow" factor here. But would try again
We drove by here the night before our reservation and thought it was closed. There were only a few cars in the lot at prime time. We were able to move our reservation from 6:45 to 7:30 at 5:00 the day of. When we arrived there were only a few tables taken. The room is very hip; great design touches. Service was excellent. Drinks were on the high side but that seems to be the way it is for all MTK restaurants. The calamaris app with brussels was excellent as was the beet sales. The lobster roll had a decent amount of lobster(not as much as you get at Lunch) was very tasty but was pricy. Swordfish with roasted peaches was excellent. I hope this place makes it.
Our waitress was terrible and unfriendly. She took the plates of oysters and drinks and emptied the liquid onto the rock floor in front of us and other patrons outside. Wasn't helpful with the menu, wasn't sure of what drinks were even available, wouldn't give us the wifi password. She didn't even know what the happy hour special really was.
LOVED IT! My Brother in law Josh Verville is friend with Ryan the owner and recommended i take my parents there when they were in town. It was there favorite meal in the hamptons ever! well done and definitely will go back!
