Palio - Ann Arbor
Ask about our Birthday Meal Deal!
Palio del Sole (Palio rooftop) is walk-in only!
Maybe it was an off night for the staff. We waited forever for our food. The food was quite bland. Very disappointing. This used to be a high caliber restaurant. We were first customers there for evening when they opened. Bread is fresh, but cold? Just an overall odd blah experience. I am by no means picky but neither my husband or I were impressed.
We had a nice experience but we didn't love the food. Since we visit only a few times a year, there are too many other restaurants to try out.
Went here after the PSU game. They honored our reservation right away which was greatly appreciated. All food was excellent, although would have preferred if the chicken parm was pounded thin. Love the sangria, caesar salad, garlic bread with cheese. Service was very friendly and responsive.
Delicious entrees made better by outstanding service! We dined on an exceptionally busy, post-game evening. The entire staff was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating despite the heavy patron load; including the host who graciously us earlier than our reserved time, to our server Heather, who maintained her focus and poise while providing top notch service. Positive teamwork was palpable throughout the entire establishment. A wonderful experience which we'll look forward to experiencing again and again with our repeat business. Thank you!
Food is very good, but menu seems a bit limited. Bar needs to offer some specialty cocktails
Solid Italian food, nice and warm on a chilly night in Ann Arbor. Waiter was outstanding, great suggestions on food and drink and helped make for a really enjoyable night out with family. We’re coming back!
The Palio never disappoints. We like walking in the door and seeing the cooking crew in action, and dishes going out. The wine list is great, and we actually love the small tumbler-like wine glasses--very 'old country cafe'-like. We have tried multiple items on the menu, but most frequently come back to the few favorites we associate with the place; after all, they're part of the reason we come! The color and overall decoration scheme is very attractive, and the servers are typically outstanding (this visit was no exception).
We got seated right away. Server was fine (although clearly new). Appetizers, salads and entree were served way too close to one another. I was still finishing up my salad when my entree came out. Food was just okay. Nothing special.
Great place to eat, amazing food, calm environment, didn't feel rushed to finish our meal. Definitely recommend for a day of birthday meal. 30% off the entire ticket. Great deal!
Food was good! There were fruit flies flying around our table. They said they have working on the issue. I think it’s the carpet in the back area. They gave us a gift card when we complained!
Nice atmosphere, sub-par food. My prosciutto and provolone stuffed chicken breast was poor at best- fat dry chunk of chicken breast with a litle melted cheese on top , could not find the prosciutto or the promised lemon butter sauce. should have sent it back.
We took our UM daughter and her friends for dinner, so we were a party of 10. Our server, Alex (Alexandra T.) was awesome. Very attentive and helpful with suggestions for appetizers and entrees. Everyone loved the food, and despite protests that no one could eat another bite, we ordered tiramisu and carrot cake for the table. Not a morsel left! Great service, great food and all at an affordable price. We will be back, again.
While the food and service at Palio were very good, we left disappointed. We were told, by the very enthusiastic wait staff, that the portions served are, "home style, like right out of Grandma's kitchen...you know, really fresh ingredients with large portions.". Based on this, we decided to start with a delicious, cheesy appetizer then split a couple of meals. The other couple ordered tortellini with alfredo sauce, and my companion and I opted to share fettuccini alfredo, with shrimp. The added shrimp was an additional charge of nearly $6. When our meals arrived, the portions could hardly be called large. I don't know about anyone else's grandma, but mine would have assumed that I was sick if I had just eaten such a small portion. To envision this, consider your typical dessert plate - now, split that in half, and that was our shared portion. The shrimp is what really disappointed me, though. As I said, we paid nearly $6 for the addition of shrimp - this got us two shrimp, total. So, my companion and I each had one shrimp. They were tasty, but not worth $3 a piece! Overall impression - if you are looking for a trendy place to go eat tiny food, and spend too much... maybe to impress your date, go to Palio. However, if you value getting your money's worth when you choose to dine out, keep looking.
All of the food was good but the Peanut butter pie was amazing!
The waiter was great and really helpful, I didnt think the food was exceptional but it was in large quantities and tasted good. Shrimp appetizer was to die for.
It was Friday night of Homecoming weekend in Ann Arbor so it was extremely busy. I understand that, however our server was not the least bit cordial, she spilled my drink and didn’t offer another one. It was an ok experience. I would go elsewhere before going back
Went on a Saturday night. Needed to add one person last minute and they were very accommodating. Our server Nick was excellent very knowledgeable and attentive without being obtrusive. The food was fantastic. Very well done and plated beautifully. It was not over the top perfect balance. Very satisfied.
The chicken parmigiana was not that great. A bit on the dry side. Thiramasu was also not great
Good food, very busy restaurant
server was too attentive- kept stopping by asking g how everything was tasting- sorry - we wanted alone time and he kept stopping by,,,,,,,,,,
I just wanted a pitcher of water left at the table so I did not have to keep asking for refills
Being from Canada, our group watches the Wolverines once a year. Palio is, to us, the Only place to enjoy the after game fun, with an awesome experience always. The servers were perfect, knowledgeable and just fun.
Will be back next year!
We headed to Palio after Michigan game. We had reservations and were seated immediately . Our server was great, very attentive to us and our kids. We will be back for sure.....
Pasta was tough, pomodoro sauce was tasteless, a lot of fruit flies and the area where we sat smelled.
Friendly & informative staff, good Italian food, great deal for a birthday!
I've been to Palio's many times but over the past 3 have noticed a distinct difference in service and food quality.
We had a group of 6. Not an overly busy Sunday night. Server had 2 large tables. Ordered sangria which took 15 minutes to get to the table. However, the glasses filled with ice arrived right away. The sangria pitcher was 80% ice. Ordered a second when the first was finally delivered which also took another 15 minutes.
Ordered 2 bruschetta appetizers that took 20 minutes to arrive. Ordered dinner when the appetizers showed up and then we didn't see anyone come by the table for 35 minutes. Took the appetizer plates, had to keep asking for additional bread, (one basket for 6) and then proceeded to wait another 25 minutes for the food to arrive.
Food had clearly been ready for some time as most dishes were either warm or cold which in an Italian Kitchen is sacrilegious. Food is supposed to be served when ready and hot. No one had any special orders or specific preparation requests.
Food was served, another 15 minutes before the server came by to see how things were. Some of the group got up to refill their water glasses at the bar.
Food quality was fair at best. Chicken Parmesan was over cooked and cold, Pasta Bolognese, noodles were overcooked and the bolognese was thin. Pesto was more cream than pesto and the linguine noodles were overcooked.
When we left, as we walked out past the kitchen at 8:30pm, we noticed at least 15 meals sitting on the warming rack waiting for the expediter or server to come get them. Those should be off the stove on onto the table in a matter of 3-5 minutes.
All in all, very unsatisfying and it will be a difficult decision for me to give Palio's one more try.
Nice Italian food. Recommend making reservations even on a weekday. We were going to the Ark for a performance and service was ideal in that our food came out hot and in a timely fashion.
Food was awesome. Server was great and I mean great! Always love this place and it hasn’t disappointed yet.
Had to wait 30 additional mins for reservation because site didn't state that you could not reserve the roof deck. Entrees particularly the pasta for the chicken parmesan and the mussels for the seafood pasta dish my wife ordered were bland/funky. Server was excellent and had it remade, plus gave dessert for issue, so she tried to help as much as she could. Will not be going back to Palio, as the price and overall food quality was not acceptable
It was a great. Perfect for all kinda of occasions. The food was fresh and appetizing. The service was great.
It's unfortunate that the food was a disappointment as the other aspects (e.g., cleanliness, service, ambience, etc) were pretty good (our server, Alexandria, was excellent). We had reservations and attended following a University of Michigan football game but my wife's meal, the salmon, was not particularly good whereas mine and the rest were a bit better than average (there were five in total and we all had something different). With the number of restaurants in Ann Arbor, despite it's convenience, I would probably go elsewhere if the meal is supposed to be the highlight of the evening.
A wonderful place to go it you have time and inclination for fine dinning. The chef is amazing. They create meals that are near gourmet standard. The food is authentic Italian, of the most modern sort. All three, distinct entrees were wonderfully delicious. It is noisy near in the dining room with the bar, but quiet in the other two rooms. The service was excellent, and the prices were moderate, especially considering the quality.
We are frequent diners here and never disappointed.
Waters didn’t get refilled, bread/oil didn’t come (had to specifically ask for it). One of the orders was not prepared and was brought out 35mins later, after all meals done.
Great food as always!
Great food. Service was very slow - Friday night, football weekend, new staff.
Somehow the food was not as good as the last time we were there.
The service was fantastic and we enjoyed the decent wine options and the different types of freshly baked bread.
However when we made our reservation we requested a seat on the rooftop balcony (why we chose this restaurant) and were seated indoors.
The food came out promptly and was hot however it was nothing special, seems all of the dishes could have been found in any other mediocore Italian restaurant. We also found the portion sizes to be a little wanting for the price. There was a good selection of desserts and they were good.
I asked for a quiet table and that is what we got. The food was wonderful and the waitperson was attentive to our needs. We had a wonderful dinner.
Food excellent, service waiter has only been working there 2 months, trying very hard, great personality. Had to fight the "flies" all through dinner very annoying and we sat inside the restaurant. We have been coming there for 30 years, love the restaurant!
Had a great time. Went for a date with my wife. They had a bachelorette party dinner going on (I think). A bit loud but nothing crazy. Enjoyed our time there. Gave 4 stars for food because my wife’s salmon was undercooked. But they took care of it, got her a new one, and were very prompt. Def recommend
