The perfect spot for a romantic dinner!
I visit NYC 2-3 times every year; and I really look forward to dining out, especially at the City’s many fine dining spots. So I was so excited to rediscover Günter Seeger, having frequented his amazing restaurant in Atlanta in the 90s.
This week we visited Bouley at Home, Ayers, Marea, EMP and finally Günter Seeger. Seeger’s was easily the favorite spot on this trip for both me and my wife. His food is so delicate, the flavor profile so clean and intense, everything is as fresh as can be. It’s truly a rare high end restaurant these days that are so market driven, changing the menu almost everyday to reflect the best of what is available on that day!
The other highlight is the focus on the German wines. We have had some of the most magnificent food friendly wines I had anywhere on my visits here to Seegers.
We love it!
Had a lovely time but there were two things that diminished the experience: 1) our table was next to a very large - and very pungent - floral arrangement of lilies. The smell was really overwhelming! 2) there were two young children running around and being obnoxious. I get kids have to eat and it’s not the restaurant’s fault, but one would think an 8pm reservation on a Saturday would preclude children. Especially at a restaurant like Gunter Seeger. But maybe it’s more the fault of the parents, than the restaurant.
Impeccable service and efficient service, austere decor but with very good taste. Absolute respect for the original taste of every dish, enhancing the taste and not mixing it with sauces or ingredients that literally kill the flavor of the dish. Highly recommended.
Amazing! Get the 10 courses
Service, food, cocktails, atmosphere was all impeccable. I was amazed at servers attention to detail. I thoroughly enjoyed the separation of flavors in every dish.
Food was incredible!!
Everything was spot on for a weeknight 10 course tasting at Günter Seeger. The chef himself was present in the open kitchen and dining room, the staff was friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable, and the food was truly exceptional. No pretension or stuffiness whatsoever.
Altogether perfect from the brilliant food, the exquisite service and the amazing wine list. All in all a wonderful evening. One of us has food allergies and was perfectly accommodated.
I was very much looking. Forward to dine here however wasn’t very impressed with the beef dish and the apple tart. The scallops wrapped in grape leave was very salty as well. The overall produce freshness wasn’t what I expected.
Great food and perfect service
Excellent all around! The food was creative and the wines amazing. The service was top class.
AmAzing food! It made me so happy being there. The smell of flowers when you walk in is toxic. The open kitchen concept allows you to see the chef cooking. Def recommend it! I’ve been to most Michelin star restaurants in Nyc and this restaurant was so different and refreshing!
Always one of the best places in NY. Stellar experience
Amazing display of culinary genius coupled with great service and a beautiful setting.
Extraordinary service meets fantastic ingredients with imaginative dishes.
We scheduled Gunter Seeger for our wedding anniversary on a Saturday evening. The only option on that night is the 10 course tasting menu (4 course menu is an alternative on weeknights). The staff greeted us warmly and was very accommodating but could not honor our request for face-to-face seating; all the tables for two are set at a perpendicular; I have a hearing deficit which makes this awkward. But the room is fairly quiet so it worked, even though sub-optimal. The website and the telephone confirmation call stress that jackets are required for men; I wore one but for some reason half the men in the dining room were permitted to dine without them. We ordered the wine pairing, which is $125 per person. This was a mistake. The wines (all German) were heavily weighted towards whites (something like 6 out of 8), several were mediocre and none were outstanding. We would have done better ordering a bottle of German white and a non-German red of our choice, and gotten better quality for close to the same price. There were several outstanding dishes among the 10 offered that evening (the soup was very special, there was a terrific raw fish, and the filled egg was inventive), a couple of decent ones (the abalone and the quail dishes were enjoyable to me but weren't to my wife's taste), and the rest were forgettable (the cooked beet and the shrimp were both pedestrian, the cheese course was good but you can do as well at Murray's, and the desserts, which aren't what we want anyway, were not unusual in any way). The service at Gunter Seeger is impeccable and the ambience very comfortable, but at $365/pp, tax and tip included, this is a very poor value when the meal doesn't really blow your mind. I think there are better choices in terms of cuisine and cost if you are celebrating a special night. We don't expect to return.
Very high scale restaurant with good service, but no gluten free breads or cakes. You would think with this level of cuisine that they would cater to GF people. Luxurious, slow presentation of delicacies, but hard to get veggies and other basics of healthy food. European (German) style with stuffy old world values. Let's modernize folks with vegetables and GF options.
Wonderful! Details were everywhere and staff was exceptional!
Phenomenal experience. The food was exquisite, the ambiance was lovely, and the service was impeccable. We opted for the wine pairings, and were in the very excellent and capable hands of Rashi, who guided us through the menu and pairings. As reviewed many times over, the menu and restaurant can be characterized as simple elegance. Everything was wonderfully prepared and presented. Both the food ingredients and design elements spoke for themselves.
It was the longest meal I've ever had (they were kind enough to serve at our pace), but the hours wiled away easily in the beautiful setting. The meal was pricey, for sure, but the service and quality warranted it. I was caught off guard that the champagne we were offered as we sat down was $35/glass, and that the tea we were served at the end of the meal was $10/each; but the overall experience was wonderful enough to warrant the overall cost. Thanks, Chef Seeger, Rashi and everyone, for such a memorable evening!
Creative menu and well executed, not cheap, but worth it!
This is a wonderful hidden gem in the West Village. A beautiful, adult restaurant with widely spaced tables where you can actually have a conversation. The chef, who is always present, has a complex, creative market driven menu. The wine list is fairly priced ( with some high end exceptions) and is particularly good for German whites which complement the food. Yes, it’s expensive but really worth it. The 10 course tasting menu is superb and the portion sizes are moderate so you feel satisfied but not stuffed.
A winderfumky delightful meal from start to finish. Now on my new favorites list. Looking forwards to dining here again.
The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the restaurant especially the food. Amazing dining experience One like no other. Truly a priveledge to eat there!
Extraordinary quality of product, from a passionate chef. Stunning creativity in the cuisine. Beautiful and relaxing room. Top notch & super discrete service. Interesting wine list, with an International Selection and a Strong German Wine list, recognizing the chef's roots. The Chef Gunter Seeger is turning out world class cuisine, that I call "highly personal", based on his trips to the market & his connections with local farmers, cheese makers & fisherman
Service and food are exceptional.
Great food and outstanding service. Will definitely go back.
One of the best meals I’ve had! The 11 course tasting menu was delicious. Rash the Captain and her band of servers were exceptional. Chef Gunther was very friendly and posed for pics afterwards. A wonderful Michelin star experience. A must!!
The service was outstanding; the restaurant space, and attention to quality and ambience were flawless; the six course menu included items that were remarkable, like the teeny weeny eggplant in basil cream and the marvelous ceviche. The overall dining experience was definitely worth having, but at $600 for two won't be repeated.
Exceptional experience all around. Exceeded high expectations. Did not want to leave at the end of the meal. Looking forward to returning.
If I have to describe our experience with two words - they are perfection and finesse. Everything - the food, the wine, the service, the glassware, the silverware, the interior decoration - was perfect. Everywhere you can feel the presence of Gunter Seeger who has created a unique and rare ambiance. Only one thing was missing - the second Michelin Star !
The food was fantastic as well as the service! Be prepared to enjoy!
Elegant, comfortable dining room with room between tables. Outstanding food and wine selections. The service was professional and warm. A memorable evening.
Got together with the ladies for dinner. We were so happy to be in a dining room where we could enjoy conversation. We were greeted by Chef Seeger as soon as we were seated, he welcomed us to the restaurant and talked with us about the menu. We felt as if we were at a friends dining room, a very beautiful dining room. The room is filled with gorgeous flowers it smells good and being able to see into the gorgeous extremely clean kitchen as the chefs work preparing our food was special.
The crystal is the most pleasing delicate stemware, they sell it, one of my friends bought a set. All of the china is unique, very eye catching tableware. The meal was over the top delicious and we didn’t feel too full but certainly had enough to eat. The sommelier Rashi was so great we didn’t do the wine pairings but Rashi chose two wines that we all loved, that paired perfectly.
This was my second time eating at Gunter Seeger in NYC and I plan to go back soon.
A singular dining experience. Each course was exquisitely prepared and presented. The staff-to-diner ratio (only a limited number of guests are seated at a time) allows for exceptional personal service (it is practically a show!).
Chef Gunter Seeger is on fire. He is an Artist. Extraordinary Creativity and Highly Personal cooking, which is inspired by his trips to the market. Fresh, vibrant, exciting cuisine. Pure Brilliance. Cuisine, Service, Wine & Room / Ambiance are World Class.
Having dined at the chef's previous location in Atlanta many years ago, we were expecting a great experience. He is still firing on all cylinders; food was great! The service was uniformly excellent. If I have one small criticism, it is that they do not serve diet cola. This is a popular and very common beverage in restaurants for those under 21, and my daughter was disappointed. Apart from this, I recommend this restaurant enthusiastically.
We have been to Seeger's once a year since it first opened and each experience is a dining revelation. Seeger's food is simple and elegant. The integrity of the raw ingredients shine thru the beautiful presentations. Nothing seems elaborate or cloying. All is clean, fresh, simple and spectacular. The wine list is a special treat, the german selection is not to be missed. This restaurant has really found it's rhythm, particularly front of the house. An exceptional experience.
