   Tables were a little slow but we sat down at the bar and were seated in 15 mins. Say next to someone with BO and l kindly asked to switch tables. They were very accommodating and switched us out in 5 mins.

   The food at La Mar is always good. However, the service level was not last night. Our server made us feel as if we were imposing by being there. We had to stop and ask for EVERYTHING including menus, drink refills, and take out bags, etc. Our reservation was at 5:45pm on a Tuesday, the restaurant was not at all busy. I did not feel taken care of at all or welcomed.

    The food was amazing! This was our first visit here. We were a little confused about the menu and weren’t sure about what we were ordering, but it was delicious. The seafood (halibut tail) and greens were so fresh.

    Celebrated my dads birthday, for a guy picky about food it’s a no brainer even he asked to come back again. Love coming here, food is always great and the staff are so knowledgeable about the menu

    private evnt had the main bar closed- would have been nice to know when I booked our reservation. Tables for 2 are all directly in front of the kitchen, not romantic and no view. Pulpo- extremely salty didn't eat it, didn't get charged. Nigiris tasting was pre-made and not fresh looking nor tasting. Cocktails arrived, nigiris came out and we hadn't even opened our bottle of wine nor finished our cocktails we had to request to delay the other entree.

    La Mar remains thee premiere restaurant of any type of food. Peruvian classics abound and make no mistake every other Peruvian restaurant aspires to be this one. The food is exquisite. Every dish is perfectly seasoned and presented. Must haves= cebiche Classico as well as Causa Limeña and Lomo Saltado. If you are Peruvian like me these dishes will not be like home style cooking. It should not be either. This is 5 star and Michelin star cuisine. Service is absolutely perfect also. Ask for Kelsey who manages the lunch service. She is awesome and super friendly. Tracy and Jacqueline are excellent servers and above them all is Gina who now runs the two bars in here. Believe me you will not be disappointed. Be good to the wait staff. They all work so hard to make your experience a memorable one so tip well.

    The food was good….but the service was just ok. Our server spilled 3/4s of my sparkling water bottle on a my daughter’s handbag and she wasn’t very apologetic. To make matters worse, she didn’t even take off the $7 charge for the water. We were in a hurry to get back to our hotel so I didn’t take the time to bring it up, but it seems like good customer service to do so.

    The food was extraordinary. My guest was vegetarian which I didn't realize until we arrived. i would not have previously thought that La Mar was good for vegetarians, but it was terrific. We have so many great choices. And I had my usual favorite ceviche. The issue was where we were seated, with out a functioning heat lamp. It was SO cold, we were miserable by the end of the evening. The service personnel brough blankets, but I really think they should have a portable heater for situations like this, and when they did not, should have offered to move us. It was also noisier than i remember. Not sure what can be done, but the feel of the restaurant is more casual and buzzy -- which is fine. I was having a business dinner, so it was just disappointing in that regard. Still the food was so good. Next time i would recommend more effort to offset the very cold evening. Also, sadly there were homeless people wandering around right by the tables on the pathway. Not much to be done on that front, but it reflects on the San Francisco experience that, as a native, I agree we have to fix! Thank you to the amazing chef and team. Gwen

    La Mar has forever been a must-go restaurant for us. We found out today that our bestie waitperson Gina has been promoted to a managerial position. So proud of her and many congratulations Gina. We also found out that Kelsey received her culinary diploma (I don’t think this is exactly what she told us it’s called) but I know it’s a HUGE accomplishment. Congratulations to you Kelsey. We had made reservations for out on the patio next to the water but did not know the umbrellas were gone, so we did not bring hats and since Roy sports bald, we were graciously accommodated inside instead. Kelsey and Angelo both waited on us which was extra special!!! Ok, if you’ve never tried the empanadas-DO!!! They are amazing- 4 come with the plate- a corn, a chicken, a beef and a mushroom. We split all 4 so both of us could enjoy each of them. The crust was perfect, the fillings were to die for and the sauces all had their own character. Roy had the salmon and I had octopus- both as delicious as we remember. If you haven’t been to La Mar, please- WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? You will LOVE it. Compliments to Chef Victoriano Lopez and the entire La Mar Team!

    Been back several times and enjoy exploring the menu. Excellent cibeches. Been happy each time, though we like the small plates more than the mains. Very nice patio. The only ding was that it took multiple requests to get water and the additional heat to be turned on after they offered.

    Hands down our favorite restaurant in SF. We love the setting by the water. The food has a joyous, vibrant, delicious quality to it that is so good it is hard to describe in words. Since we discovered La Mar we have eaten here 4 times in a month. The Mother's Day buffet yesterday was simply sensational. It was as beautiful as it was wonderfully delicious. The service is outstanding, unfailingly courteous, prompt and friendly. We highly highly recommend this terrific restaurant to anyone whether it is a special occasion or just a casual day out. You will not be disappointed. 10 stars!

    I've been to La Mar on two occasions. The first was for a corporate event, a group dinner, and it was fine on a busy and rainy night. The second trip was for Mother's day. First of all don't waste your time on the nigiri... its not great and getting stuffed on the rice really will leave you feeling flat once you get the bill. Second of all the constant reminders of a 2 hour time limit become particularly galling after you get a bill for $800. Let me tell you what you get... a fixed price per adult, a kids menu limited to basically a burger or mac and cheese (my kid doesn't eat either). When we asked the staff if there was a chicken dish their reply was yes, on the adult menu, but then they'd have to charge us full price, basically another head at $109 vs. $39 for a kid. The inflexibility was suddenly appalling given the prices... all we needed was a chicken leg. Now back to the final bill, this 800 included 2 drinks per adult... and the buffet. The up charge and super charged desire to turn over the tables as quickly as possible was just obnoxious for the price. The actual ceviche and more S. American dishes are tasty, but the premium pricing for Mother's day and the pushiness to get you to order and reminders of the time limit left us all with a bad taste in our mouth. Frankly the main course they wanted us to order right away was, in retrospect, more tom foolery. The fixed price includes a more than you need buffet of seafood salads, ceviche, empanadas etc. The overly starch packed mains just make it harder to enjoy the seafood and pricier items... hence the insistence that you order those right away. Shenanigans I tell you. We most definitely won't be going back for ANY kind of holiday.

    We had a(mostly) lovely time for our dinner but I can't give 5 stars. Let's start with the positives: the service was excellent. The staff was attentive and friendly. It's a nice looking place and half the food was EXCELLENT! However, the scallop dish was too salty and the soufflé, which we were so eager to have, arrived burnt and was essentially inedible. This place is not cheap, so the quality control should be better. It's also loud, so be prepared for that.
