Our lunch was absolutely stellar at Sierra Mar. The caviar service is perfection and the garden to table food is fantastic! If you find yourself in Big Sur, be sure to book a meal. Absolutely Michelin worthy.

The ambience, service, view, and overall experience were amazing. We were driving down to Big Sur from Monterey anyway and this was a small detour for lunch. The service from the get-go was fantastic, the ambience was upscale without being too pretentious. The view was equally amazing, especially because we were seated next to a small private balcony - shared with one other table - that was really just for stepping outside to see the view, but nonetheless incredible, overlooking the ocean. The prix fixe menu was in general outstanding, and the staff made an accommodation for our vegetarian daughter to prepare a personal pizza (which she loved). But, we did choose the lion's mane mushroom for one entree and were disappointed with how that turned out, given how delicious the other options sounded, which would normally be ok but if you are paying a substantial premium price, you of course have very high expectations.

Found when I arrived that because I am not a registered guest at their property, I was not provided the opportunity to order from the regular Dining menu, only a tasting menu was provided and no choices, no options were allowed. You get what they decide to give you for $185/seat. Ruined our anniversary dinner experience; felt we were treated as a tier below the registered guests. Unless you are a guest, I wouldn't bother.
