The core essence of soba is enjoying its aroma. To savor the aroma of each strand of soba, we import all soba flour from Hokkaido, Japan. During Edo period (1603-1868), foodies of that era enjoyed freshly prepared soba, which took a while to prepare, by drinking sake and appetizers that were specifically selected and prepared to heighten the flavor and aroma of the anticipated soba to be later served. Excellent, one of my favorite sushi restaurant in NYC. I dined at ISE many times in FiDi before they relocated to East Village. My Friends and I always enjoy their omakase, we were never once disappointed in all these years. As usual, after testing the chef picked fresh sashimi, we concluded the meal with TWO more negitoro each! Yes two, it's that good!

I’m so mixed about this place. The restaurant, which used to be operating in the Fianncial District and midtown (perhaps, it continues to operate in Midtown?), is known for the quality of food at a reasonable price (at least, when it had a store in the Financial Distirct). To be fair, the quality of the fish this restaurant services is really high but the price appears to be a bit too much for the location in its East Village Store. But what disapppointed me most of the level and quality of servers - almost to the point that they were so novices; why am I paying nearly $100 for a simple appetizer, a chirashi and a small carafe of sake after the services made repeatedly made mistakes in taking my order? Yes, the fish is great so you simply want sushi, this can be a really good place, anything beyond sushi, be sure what your servers understand what you actually order...

The food was good and the service was adequate. However, there was nothing memorable about either. Considering the price, the sushi/sashimi was sub-par. Every dish had some mild but otherwise unremarkable flavor. The service provided was courteous but the bare minimum to be considered passable. On the plus side, the decor is just lovely. Closing time is @ 10 or 11 pm but the place gets quiet long before that.

OK spot -- definitely not mind blowing. Food was good - sushi was fresh. We ordered edamame and shumai to start and half of my shumai was ice cold. Clearly had been lazily defrosted. It wasn't crazy expensive but not cheap either. We did not try any of the Soba which is what they're known for so maybe that is the move. Very likely won't go back - can get good sushi elsewhere for less.

everyone is so nice and accommodating. do get the hexagon special ($30) you get everything and portions are huge. The food was sooo good that my friend and I finished in 10 minutes.

The food is very good. Grilled duck is excellent. So does squads. The squad's ink soba was perfect. Décor was beautiful and quiet. If the distance between tables are 12" not 8" would be great.

We loved the omakase and cold squid ink uni soba. Omakase was fresh and the cold squid ink uni soba was a perfect summer meal. The service was warm and friendly. I put in a request for a seat that was more private since we were celebrating a birthday and I appreciated that they sat us in a booth. I loved this place and would definitely come back to try other menu items!

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate my birthday and the meals we had were truly phenomenal (we had Chirashi, Hon Maguro Don and split a carafe of Dassai Sake and Agedashi Tofu). Everything was really great except the customers next to us were talking really loud ( about hitting on some Asian girls. Def unpleasant). We'll love to come back!

Amazing tuna special entree. Various cuts of tuna over a bed of rice. Top notch toro that melts in your mount, a truly sensual experience. Miso black cod appetizer: delicate and savory, some of the best miso cod in recent memory.

This was my second time eating at Ise before seeing a show at the Public Theater. The prix fixe dinner offered between 5:30 and 7:00 pm is superb. Excellent value and great food. A chance to taste many different dishes. The sushi and the soba, in particular, are delicious. Attentive service, (although they have not been busy during either of my visits).

Best sushi I've had in the city, and I eat sushi probably twice a week. Not your last minute decision kind of place, something to really look forward to. All the fish is imported from Japan, so its pretty pricey but worth it when you taste the different in quality. The chefs sushi & sashimi platter with an app or two is perfect for two people. I also hear the soba here is amazing but i have not had it, but they do hand make the noodles so i'm sure its delicious.

Came here for a dinner with friends on a Saturday night. Seated immediately and could wait for friends at the table which is always nice instead of having to wait for the full party to arrive. Really good and fresh sushi. Loved the soba!

A calm oasis with friendly, helpful servers and delicious food. A great place to go before a performance at The Public and a wonderful place to unwind after a hectic day. There are many items on the menu, but if you get there before 7pm, ask for the early bird bento box. The choices are limited but are varied. The hot soba noodles in a Bonito flavored broth is soothing.

I think its the first time I write a review on a restaurant : we had a wonderful experience at Ise. we came for a Sunday lunch with our 2 kids. They had a booster and kid plates and glasses. everything tasted delicious. it seems you can order anything on the menu and it would taste amazing. we'll come back for sure.

Ise's food was extremely good - the soba was delicious and the sushi was very fresh with an interesting and tasty selection. The service was rapid, polite and very friendly. The general atmosphere was great - a piece of quiet Tokyo in NoHo. Highly recommended
