I've always liked the setting old train station and try to get window in garden room to see and hear the tarin go by/ Few new additions to sea food menu. Wine list has gotten better over the past several years and the carrot cake which we took to go enough to feed several folks. Fish was well cooked and service was attentive
My wife and I were there for our anniversary hoping to get the same excellent treatment we received last year on our wedding day. The Hostess was exceptional, but everything was down hill after that. First our server (Luis) brought out the wrong appetizer. When my wife's dinner came out, it was cold. The manager responded to our concerns but but didn't seem to really care. Our server never came to the table to ask how everything was going, he never offered to refill our waters. We had to flag him or another staff member to get out request met. I'm not sure we will be returning to the Gandy Dancer anytime soon.
This restaurant is overvalued. The food was bland. The service was unctuous. Not a fan.
Food great and very nice and quiet place. Staff very friendly. Just a beautiful place to take your love one.
Service and food were not up to standard. Out of respect for the restaurant, I have sent my comments privately.
Excellent service, excellent menu, excellent ambiance. Crab legs on the buffet would have made it perfect, but that would be nit picking.
Thank you for a lovely afternoon.
Also, loved the pear champagne.
Good Sunday brunch. Good thing the host moved me to another table. First choice was in a dark corner As a deaf hard of hearing person, need light to chat with my friend. Wish the restaurant would change the brunch menu. It is getting alittle old. Dessert table was a mess and seemed no one tends to it like the hot food table. Same desserts when I go there. Nothing chnages. Thanks.
The place is lovely although we were seated in a very cold spot near the window and glass door. I ordered a martini and it was brought in a heavy short glass because they ran out of martini glasses. I asked for the proper glass and the server went and got one then poured my drink into it tableside.
The food was good but not exceptional and the plating could have been more interesting for the prices charged.
Celebrating my friends birthday and everything was wonderful
I decided to take my wife for our 8 year anniversary...it was my first visit. We were seated right away which was nice but it took 15min before our waitress showed up. We had to ask for water and bread basket. My wife ordered a glass of wine, the waitress brought the glass for the wine but waited an additional 10min for wine to arrive. I ordered the surf & turf I never had a fillet with gristle and my lobster tail was like rubber and potatoes were cold. My wife got the potato crusted white fish which was covered in hash browns she said it was like she was eating breakfast. We both left with an upset stomach.
Wonderful food and service. It has been many years since I have been to the Gandy Dancer. It remains enjoyable.
This was our first time, meeting friends whom we hadn’t seen in a while. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed and we were given plenty of time to talk. The waiter was available but was not intrusive. There was no pressure to order quickly. The food arrived at the appropriate time and was well presented and prepared. The fish, which we all had, was perfectly cooked and imaginatively prepared. We would be happy to dine there again when we are in Ann Arbor.
Hannah was an exceptional server
Great service for 10! Restaurant was very quiet and great ambience. Very cool when the train goes by and the restaurant claps that it didn’t crash into the building. Hah! Food was amazing and service was spot on
Had a great dinner of shrimp scampi and wedge salad. Husband had soup and sea bass. Brought my UM student niece who really didn't care for the caesar salad so I brought it home. It needed more dressing. She really didn't know enough to ask for more. Usually I get too much dressing on a caesar salad. I added more and had a great lunch the next day.
Pretty good. Everybody was happy with their meal. Staff was pleasant.
They served us a worm in the meat. Then tried to convince us it was nothing to worry about and that it both never happens AND happens all the time. I know, it didn’t make sense to us either. The worm was disgusting enough, but management minimizing what happened and not validating how disgusting and dangerous that was added insult to injury.
Food and atmosphere great. Drinks and service slow
Great food, and good time. We will be back.
Football Saturday, so some allowances have to be made. We hadn’t been to the Gandy Dancer in years and were pleased that the style and quality haven’t changed. Plenty of help, all asking if we needed anything else. The seafood choices were more varied than I remember. The salmon and fisherman’s stew were ample and quite tasty. The house was very busy yet our food was delivered promptly. Overall a fine dinner in a comfortable setting.
Fantastic! Great Menu, great atmosphere! A must visit in Ann Arbor.
Have been going to GD for many years, and have never been disappointed. It is a great restaurant, all around.
I always get the filet and love it. Butternut squash soup was delicious! Husband loves the lobster bisque.
Great Place to go with family or friends or on a date!
A Great Place to go after a big U of M football game or other athletic event!
Very good food in a unique but tasteful setting. And, we were able to experience the tradition of greeting the passing of an Amtrak train at about 645p with a round of applause. A great place for our 1st Parents Weekend dinner with our son at U of Michigan.
We had a table for 8 the night before a football game. We were seated promptly, given two hours to enjoy food and conversation, and treated to marvelous service. I highly recommend this stop as a pre-game experience.
Food and service was amazing!! Definitely a value for what you get, well worth it!!
We came in for lunch with our teenage daughter. The first thing we noticed was the architecture and it is amazing. The staff is friendly and very professional. The food was good, and we wish we had chosen something more adventurous than the pasta dishes, though. I enjoyed the prime rib sandwich and the dynamite scallops were tasty. We had good food, with great service, in a gorgeous building with a pretty view. Glad we stopped in.
Terrific in all dimensions with Ann Arbor history of interest.
Great menu, terrific food, and service superb.
Great place and a must stop in Michigan! Perfect service and food!
excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambiance---- I would highly recommend!
We love their twilight menu, everything we've ever had here is delicious and beautifully presented! We have celebrated several anniversaries here, and took a friend there to celebrate her retirement. Great place for real dining!
brunch had a great selection of quality foods.
scott was a great waiter. clapping for the Amtrak is a cool tradition.
Great brunch for a bunch of hungry college kids. We take our son and his friends every time we visit.
I was disappointed. The service wasn't what it use to be. I always feel cheated when coffee and tea are offered with your meal but not pop. I can't drink coffee or tea so another option other than water should be allowed.
The food wasn't up to the quality that I expected.
We had done a brunch a few weeks ago in Howell for much cheaper and the food was of a better quality and the service was outstanding. So they set the bar for this one and it failed.
We love Gandy Dancer. The Sunday Brunch is the best in Ann Arbor! Food is beautifully displayed,
And always delicious. The small jazz band is very pleasant to hear.
Our server, William, was fantastic. Attentive, but not obtrusive. He provided everything we needed, when we needed it, in a very discreet manner. Brunch items were fabulous, as usual. Ambience was great. Had a seat right next to the floor to ceiling window, next to the train tracks. Best brunch in town.
Our waitress was awesome and the setting was perfect for a lovely brunch.
We were greeted and taken to an intimate table for two. We had requested window seating if possible and were not disappointed. We even had two trains go past during our dinner. We have been going to the Gandy for our anniversary for about 8 years since the Charley's Crab in Northfield closed. Our dinners were excellent. We had the spicy tempura shrimp for an appetizer and it was fantastic. The Martha's Vineyard salads were larger than I had remembered and very savory as well - love that dressing combo with the blue cheese crumbles and pine nuts! My wife had the mahi mahi with crab encrusted exterior and she enjoyed it. I had the crispy duck with Grand Marnier glaze. It ranks up there with the best dinner I have ever had. (We did have to take some dinner home as we were getting a bit full after the appetizers, warm bread and pate, salad, and main course). The dessert did not disappoint either. Ice cream over chocolate cake with chocolate drizzle was sinful for a chocolate lover. Then, to top it off, our waiter worked with the kitchen to get us a pint of the dressing they make for the lunch salad with the fiery tempura shrimp over the greens, cantaloupe, and blue cheese. If you are there for lunch, p[lease try it, as it is our favorite salad from anywhere. Definitely a 5 star experience.
From the moment we arrived we were greeted with "Happy Anniversary". Everyone was very pleasant and attentive. We asked for a quiet table and they were ready to accomodate us but they asked if we'd prefer something different since the "quiet" tables were in n alcove. We wouldn;t have minded that at aall but I told them we were really asking not to be seated near the kitchen. Given that they offered us a table near the window where we could look out over the train tracks. It was nice.
We order the the Avocado and crab appetizer, filet mignon, and the crispy duck. It was all very good though I think the duck was just a bit over done for my taste. It was good but not quite perfect. I'd order it again though and just ask that it not be so well done.
We'll be back here for sure. It's a little pricey but worth the excellent service. Really can't say enough about the service, stupendous.
Thanks for making the commemoration of our anniversary so pleasant.
