Excellent sushi ... great variety on menu ... delicious food!
The only thing missing was a true CRAFT Beer offering. No issues with Wine and Cocktail list or food but you have to offer craft and especially local craft beers from NJ to be in the game!
Always awesome food and also specials.
If u like Sushi, go for it !
Good quality and taste in everything !
Excellent all the way around!!
Great find! Date night with husband. Great romantic atmosphere. Wonderful wait staff.
Food to die for! Will definitely be back! Thank you Ovations for a lovely evening!
Food was good, however the restaurant and bar were both very loud to the point of it being hard to hear someone 2 feet away. The service was terrible as well. With a reservation, we still waited 20 min to get a table and then were brought to a table where a friend of the staff was sitting. She had just left the table, but her meal was brought out and left there as we were being seated. Our waiter seemed to forget we were there and we had to ask for water, grated cheese and to order a drink with dinner (which took 10 minutes get to us once the bartender poured it). Would recommend this place put in a noise dampening system and train their wait staff better.
Service was very slow. They were sold out of most of the entrées and even one of the salads that we wanted to order. The crowd at the bar was extremely loud screaming . The fettuccine Alfredo showed up as more of a soup with pasta in it. The risotto is not risotto it was just rice with sauce underneath it. Shrimp was overcooked and hard as a rock. Desert tasted like it was from a box.
Great Lunch. Especially the fish was excellent. Thanks again.
Tony, our waiter, was just wonderful! Enjoyed him so much. Food good, reasonably priced. Made me really miss Ciao Bellathat used to be their sister restaurant in Somerville!
It was ok at best. If your going for sushi, well let’s just say don’t. It was awful almost amateur like. Would not recommend to anyone. I guess if your’re going for apps and burgers then maybe it would be ok otherwise don’t expect much from this place. Service is lackluster. Well almost nonexistent I would say. Our waiter disappeared and we were told he had a phone call. Seriously. They tried to make up for it with desert but at that point it was too late. Drinks and music were the only decent thing here. I’m not sure how they maintain the high star reviews but people clearly don’t know any better.
Great "homemade" Italian. Food was good - price was pretty fair - salad was $10 for a small plate of romaine and dressing- not even any Parmesan on it. Main course (I had chicken parm) was very good cooked well. Red sauce was very good.
I would come back again. The servers were attentive and made you comfortable. Nice environment and the food is good.
This is a run of the mill Italian restaurant characterizing itself as "Asian/Italian Fusion". (Sorry, but putting coconut shrimp and dumplings on an appetizer list doesn't really qualify as "fusion" especially when the same menu has hamburgers). We were there on a slow Saturday night. The place was cold and dark. The service was desultory. The menu choices were (mostly) veal, chicken or fish prepared in the typical Italian restaurant ways. My wife has the special which was hangar steak and said it was, "fine". I had the seafood risotto which was overcooked shellfish in a sauce that resembled pomodorro with a scooped pile of rice in the middle. The rice tasted like rice, not risotto and went uneaten. Do you know that feeling when you can't wait to pay up and leave? So we did.
We went for happy hour. $5 martini and $3 appetizers. The drinks were too sweet (I might order the wrong ones). The happy hour items were ok (chicken quesadillas was the best among all)
but overall experience was good and enjoyable.
Enjoyed our evening out. The staff and the manager were attentive and made us feel very welcome. Drinks were great. For the several dishes we ordered, they ranged from average (Crab ravioli; fried calamari; mushroom flatbread) to very good (bacon cheeseburger; seafood pasta). Could use a little less salt.
Ovations is always reliable for great food and excellent service!
This is place is a great find !!! Everyone is incredibly friendly..it’s like cheers but much much better ! Definitely try the risotto and any fish dish you can’t go wrong !
This is a Perfect date night spot or dinner with friends.
Amazing !!! Best kept secret!!!
Extremely disappointed in our whole dinner atmosphere, appetizer was under cooked, dinner was okay, they did take off the appetizer from the bill, but calamari under cooked is unacceptable coming out of the kitchen! We will not be returning any time soon!!!
Great experience at Ovations! Would recommend it to anyone
The drinks are good. Definitely don't miss thier happy hours. Great deals on Martins. Appetizers/entrees are good but portions are a bit on the smaller side.
A+. Great experience and food.
First time I’ve ever given a bad review. But here goes. The service was nonexistent even though we were the only couple in the main dining room throughout our dinner. We ordered veal piccata which was paper thin and small and was in so much sauce it was like veal soup. I ordered mine with mashed potatoes and vegetables and got rice instead no explanation from the server when he brought it to me. Than at meals end when I asked for the check we waited 15 minutes still in a completely empty dining room while we watched our server playing or staring at his phone 15 feet away. Sorry to say I’ve never had a bad experience with open table reviews of restaurants in lots of states and other countries but this was a big bust.
Ovations is a hidden gem on Weston Canal road in Bound Brook. The food is eclectic - from Sushi to Steak, everything comes out perfectly. Their bread is great. The wait staff is spectacular from the bar (we enjoyed the happy hour) to our table. I had the fish special - served with perfectly done mashed potatoes. The members of our party couldn't be happier with their desserts - one which got called out was the apple cheesecake. Lovely.
Very nice restaturant. Took our son after his graduation Monday at PNC Arts Center. Mom and mom in law, hubby, me and our two sons all have very different palates. One had Sushi; one had gnocchi, one had salad, one had a burger and two had pasta. We were too tired for dessert but definitely next time!
Every dish was excellent! Pasta and sushi and burgers in one place? Crazy but they make it work!!! Eclectic and delicious! We will be back!
Service was sort of slow considering there were very few guests. Food was ok this is a sushi place mostly and that is not what I ordered.
Unfortunately, they had run out of my favorite dish, so I had to order something else. It was not as good, but it was fine.
I got a gift card for my birthday and so we decided to go last Saturday evening. I had the chicken francaise with mashed potatoes and veggies. Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and delicious. My hubby had the lobster crab ravioli and he raved about them. They were served in a vodka sauce and he really enjoyed it. We shared the calamari for appetizer and loved the fact that there were no spiny parts in the serving. The bread and dipping sauce is always something we look forward to. It was s delicious dinner, great service, wonderful atmosphere and someplace we always look forward to returning to.
Excellent service! Nice ambience on the patio. Did not rush us through dinner. Reasonably priced tasty food.
Always excellent in every way!
Excellent service. Very good food including a variety of unique and delicious specials. Neighborhood gem!
Food and service was outstanding!!! I highly recommend.
The food was the standard Italian fare, pasta, flatbreads, etc. It looks like they also offer sushi but we didn't try it. There was a table there that was quite noisy. It wasn't the restaurant's fault but considering the price of the food, they should have asked them to be quiet. It's an upscale restaurant, not a pizza place. The salad and pasta dishes were decent. The steak was subpar, steak shouldn't have any sauce on it. The sauce didn't taste good and neither did the actual steak.
Pros: The decor was nice and the restroom was clean. The music in the background, when we could hear it (see above), was pleasant. The waiter was nice and portion sizes were adequate. And there is a private parking lot.
Cons: The food was decent but definitely overpriced. It was too loud, and the restaurant did nothing about it. There seemed to be only one waiter for many tables, making it difficult to get his attention. We were only provided with a few slices of bread, once. When it was gone, no more was offered. And then there are sides, dishes need sufficient sides. As in more than one side; potatoes, rice, vegetables, they help make a dish and justify prices.
We made a reservation last minute on Mother’s Day and they were so welcoming, seating and serving us promptly. The food was amazingly delicious - the pappardelle with hazelnut cream sauce is not to be missed! The chicken piccata was the best we’ve ever had. Dessert was delicious and generously portioned. Fantastic food, fabulous place!
This was not our first time at Ovations, but our first Open Table booking. We discovered this neighborhood gem quite by accident and good karma. You wouldn't think that sushi and Italian food work, but they do and quite well. If it's nice outside, their patio is lovely, with nice views of the D&R Canal Towpath and glorious sunsets. The food is well prepared, nicely presented and service is properly paced. A friendly, homey place, one that we return to.
We enjoyed an early quiet dinner. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The portions were just right so there is room for dessert without being stuffed. The filet mignon was fork tender. The best we've had anywhere around. The veal piccata was also done well and delicious. The chocolate soufflé (lava cake) with ice cream for dessert was also just enough to enjoy. The prices were reasonable. We look forward to going back again.
First time here. Great food and drinks. Servers were attentive. Will surely go back with some friends.
I ordered the lobster ravioli, which turned out to be just 5-6 small pieces of ravioli in an ocean of tomato paste, hardly enough for a meal. I ended up having to place another order of a sushi roll, which, like the ravioli, were just ok. The waiter took forever to show up when I tried to place the second order. It was a very frustrating experience, not worth the trip at all.
