What Insiders Are Saying
Babbo is still the best place to feel good in this town.
The food was absolutely delicious - every course. Everyone on the wait staff was incredibly attentive. There was never a dirty or finished plate in front of us, and our water and wine glasses were always full. The ambiance was romantic, and the staff even wished us a ‘Happy Anniversary!’ We will absolutely be back.
Still a great restaurant after all these years. Delicious, unique dishes and excellent service. Generous portions.
Great place! Wonderful ambiance
2 out of the 3 pastas were outstanding. The All'amatriciana was below average and overcooked. Went as part of our anniversary celebration and even though the hostess asked about it they never acted on it.
Fine Dining, Delicious Food, Perfectly Prepared and Served.
atmosphere: crowded, high noise level, with waiters pushing through the crowds. At table, a number of loud talking, lots of cell phones and even some cell phone conversations.
food: good, but not outstanding. Cockles, outstanding. Beet tartare, nothing special & not very good. Duck....large portion of fairly bland meat piled on a plate. Quail....just okay.
wine: pretty hard to fine a decent wine under $150, but easy to find numerous wines between $750 and $1,500. Definitely, Wall Street, expense account pricing and wine snobbery.
service: they tried, but given the crowds & the frantic pace, service was just okay.
overall: After not dining here for several years, I could really tell the difference....a shift from a relaxed, refined atmosphere to one of producing grub and turning tables.
Bottom line: you can get better food and closer to a fine dining (more relaxed, congenial) experience in many other places. If you do come....try lunch; or, if dinner, request a seat upstairs away from the ground floor mayhem.
May have been the best food ever!! Great helpful service. Beautiful cozy setting. Have dreamed of getting to go for a number of years. Definitely surpassed our hopes
Food was excellent, service wasn’t
Food and service was excellent! I would definitely recommend.
Amazing food and service!
Best meal ever!
The fettuccine was outstanding, and the pappardelle with white truffles was life changing. Thank you, Babbo! You never disappoint!
Great food and service. Would recommend
Delicious pasta, apps, and wine! This place is definitely on the pricey side but great for a celebration or special occasion.
Food, wine and service were all excellent. The extremely loud music was disturbing and doesn't suit the otherwise more mellow ambiance of the restaurant.
Excellent staff and accommodating service. Fabulous options for meals and deserts. Worth the treat!
The Traditional Tasting menu with accompanying wines was superb! Wines were perfectly paired with each course. Every dish was prepared to highlight the flavors of the ingredients . The Pappardelle with Chanterelles and Thyme was a pasta lovers delight. Service was excellent! Would highly recommend Babbo's to anyone who loves superior food and service.
The food was good, prepared well but the whole experience is not what it used to be and was unsatisfying. The decor is tired and a bit fuddy duddy while trying to be classic and fine with fine service, yet the music was BLARING 80's punk rock or something horrible like that, particularly for that setting. It's supposed to be a somewhat elegant and grown up experience where people are 'dining', not cringing from the super loud inappropriate banging music. The wine list is so enormous it's kind of silly(who wants to spend the time looking through pages and pages and pages of all Italian wine) and there was barely anything under $100 so we ended up spending almost 300 on 2 bottles of wine, which is unnecessary. Waiter was attentive and nice but called us his friend at least 20 times during one meal - eh too much. We brought our teenage daughter to show her something upscale and delicious as a treat, but it felt dated and unpleasant overall. I will not go back.
We got the pasta tasting with wine upstairs. The food was absolutely fantastic. The wine pairings were fantastic. Our server was super enthusiastic and fantastic. They played Billy Joels greatest hits, then Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon, then Pearl Jams Ten albums while we were there. Atmosphere was bustling and noisy but cozy with great music. We had a great date night here - well worth it! Notables were.the pumpkin pasta, pork belly pyramids and the maple cheesecake.
I had a reservation for 2 but then my date couldn’t make it. So I went and told them it was only for one. As it happened, there was a single seat at the bar. So I don’t know what the fining room was like. But sitting at the bar was great! The bartender was very good and attentive and knew the wines. The food was excellent! First they bring a chick pea dish...very good. Then I had beet tartare followed by the scallops. A very nice night.
Dark, noisy so we had to shout, food is okay but nothing unexpected att all. Great service and Wines
Food was very good. My only complaint was our $200 bottle of wine disappeared. Only 3 people were drinking the wine and glasses were only half full, no one received a refill and were told the bottle was empty. A bit fishy to me. I prefer to have the bottle remain on the table so I know when it is empty.
Great food and ambiance. Must go in NYC
Located in a nice neighborhood and easy to find. Great ambiance, good bread and tasty olive oiI though I thought that both my side dishes and entree had too much sauce. The beet salad had too much juice (probably from the blood oranges) and the brussel sprouts had been drizzled with too much balsamic vinegar that overwhelmed the dish.
Still great. It has been a few years since out last visit and we wondered if it had changed post Batali. Happy to report that it hasn't. The menu, wind selection, and service are still excellent. But unless you want to wear earplugs, request a table upstairs.
Everything was wonderful. O ly complainy is that the ambience was too dark
My friends and I had a delicious meal at Babbo. The wine selection was great and the Prosecco I had was perfect. The pasta dishes we ate (black spaghetti with Rick shrimp and salami calabrese, goat cheese ravioli with orange and fennel, and the fettuccine) we amazing! I also highly recommend the maple cheesecake and the chocolate hazelnut cake!
I had the opportunity to have lunch at Babbo, to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We had a $100 gift certificate, which was definitely required as the prices are pretty steep, but worth every penny. We arrived 1 hour early for our reservation, and were promptly seated as there were open tables. The service was excellent, from filling our water glasses, taking our orders, explaining the wine menu, and making suggestions related to our food preferences; overall, the wait staff was one of the best we’ve experienced in NY. We had very high expectations related to the food, however, each dish exceeded our expectations, as each course was superb. Highly recommended, very fun area to visit, walk around, spend time shopping, we will definitely return for another meal.
We eat at Babbo every time we come to the city. The grilled octopus and bolognese is to die for. And the pistachio semi fredo is our fave dessert! The music of the place does not match the atmosphere . It’s kind of a rock fusion, and one would think that some real jazz would be playing instead . Oscar Peterson or similar.
Went here for my birthday. We got seated in the corner which was perfect. Ambiance was amazing and the food was even better. Definitely recommend for a special occasion!!
I requested to be attended to quickly because of a off Broadway show I was attending, waiter was excellent with getting to us and out food quickly (oddly though a bit too quick). Ordered the Orecchiette with rabini and sweet sausage. My date has the pasta (thin spaghetti) with lobster. My pasta had an bit of an odd odor to it, not sure if that was from the water? or something else, I did eat the meal but was not happy with my selection. I would visit restaurant again and choose a different dish.
We enjoyed it and will be back. The food was fantastic as well as the wine.
My birthday 🎂
As usual, best restaurant ever.
Expected more. Food just ok. The place ia not nice especially the 1st floor. Not a 1 star restaurant. My black truffle did not taste like truffle. The wine list is great with cora vin.
Lamb was cold. Service was poor waited 30+ minutes between dishes
It has really declined. The server could care less, the food was not thoughtfully executed and the space was so cramped it ruined the dinner.
Never disappoints. Fantastic evening, pre-theater dining experience.
A friend and I went to Babbo for a leisurely Saturday lunch. The grilled calamari was very good. My friend enjoyed her beet salad. And the wine was excellent. But the highlight of our meal was a white truffle pasta we shared. It had wide silky ribbons of pasta with a bit of butter and shaved truffles on top. It was spectacular. And the service was top notch. Very impressive. There are many excellent options in Manhattan but I
will definitely go to Babbo next time I am in NYC.
Buena comida y buena servicio
Totally disappointed. Food very ordinary. Not worthy of the price and the hype.
