About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Charming
At KELP we take our time to make sure the food that goes on your plate is a fresh and local as possible. We source our seafood to be specifically Scottish and sustainable. We pride ourselves on using local suppliers for all our food. The fish people supply our fresh seafood daily. Our bread comes from Soja bakehouse, a family owned bakery in Cumbernauld. Our meat comes from ABR butchers, based in Bearsden.
Our executive chef, Christopher Hutchison, creates amazing, innovative dishes to be enjoyed and shared with friends and loved ones. We now have an AA rosette for 2023/2024 to highlight his and the teams amazing work. We are located on Cowcaddens Road, just around the corner from our sister restaurant, Ardnamurchan Restaurant and Bar and a stones throw from the theatre royal. Perfect for a meal before a show. Relax in our modern, airy restaurant and watch the chefs work in the open kitchen. Our signature dish is our crab doughnut, you'll be amazed!

This was our second time visiting Kelp after coming a week or so previously, and again it did not disappoint! The staff are so attentive, the food is amazing and the service was quick, especially considering the food is immaculate! We will definitely be back, lots!

Wow!!! Small plates but big taste. We had 6 between 2 of us, plus a ‘snack’ and an oyster (yes, only 1 as I don’t like them). But we were stuffed. As soon as you walk through the door you are wary welcomed and shown to your table. We then had the menu concept explained to us, then left to our own choices. Service was quick, but not pushy! Food was explained when questions were asked and nothing seemed to much of a bother for the attentive members of staff. Excellent choice of wines, and coffee was so tasty. I would say that eating bits of each dish seemed ‘wrong’ on an individual level, but paired up superbly with the fish and actually brought the flavour of the fish out more. We will certainly be returning. Parking could have been an issue - but it wasn’t. Brownie points for me as we were celebrating my wife’s birthday and she was so happy with the whole experience. Well done guys.

Arrived a little early so didn’t expect table to be ready but had nowhere inside to wait so had to wait outside in the rain at wet tables. Staff were very friendly but had to be called a few times for service, bill etc. Food is exceptional, smoked trout and squid salad were highlights. We don’t normally have desert but shared the roulade which was also excellent. Overall excellent if a little pricey.

Food was really nice but a slightly off experience getting a course when I was still eating the first one, but I guess it was aiming for tapas style. My friend got her first dish 10 minutes before I did, which wasn’t ideal. There were no niceties in the service- just perfunctory. When I arrived we were led to the coldest, draughtiest table in the place, on a cold wet evening. We had pre-booked, but apparently so had everyone else. The waiter did find us a better table though, and we appreciated her efforts. No semi-skimmed or oat milk for the coffee, but tbh nothing would have made it taste good. Overall the food was nice, the service was ok and the manager was very pleasant. One more thing- only one toilet available!
