We went to the restaurant for our reservation (a Saturday evening at 7:30pm...) and the restaurant was closed. No note, email etc. This was for a special occasion birthday dinner. There was a group of people outside who also had reservations waiting. The restaurant still has not been in contact.

This is the second time I Ha e been asked to write a review for Kingsley. 7 PM reservations on Saturday, September 22. Arrived after an $18 cab ride dropped off in front of the restaurant to find it pitchdark locked up nobody there. Another party of three arrived at the same time as my party they were celebrating her 60th birthday party only to find the restaurant closed - not even a hand written sign on the door… never heard of such a thing I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I wish I had looked at the reviews before I made the reservations this same issue happened in August.

I don't usually write reviews, but this restaurant was terrific. I'm a vegetarian and my wife is not, but each of us had a ton of choices (unusual for me, usual for her). Everything we ate was creative and tasty, and the service was warm and attentive. The ingredients were seasonal but not fussily so (not pretentious). We will be back for the tasting menu this fall, definitely.

We arrived to find the restaurant closed. I made this reservation, received confirmation from open table, AND received a confirmation email from Kingsley’s (to which I responded, as requested with an affirmation). If this is the quality of service Kingsley and Opentable consider normal for a Michelin rated restaurant.... COME ON—Clearly not worth the hype if they can’t manage to attend to guests from RESERVATION TO DESSERT! Pathetic.

Lovely large space in the East Village. Food a bit hit-or-miss. Menu organization a bit confusing because the progression of items does not mean larger ‘main’ courses, as it does on most menus. Wait staff the usual 20 somethings.

Very nice place but like so many NYC restaurants very loud. We were there for Restaurant Week dinner and everything that was served was excellent. The BBQ Chicken had a unique and very good stuffing and the "wild" striped bass (I didn't know this fish came any other way) was on a very delicious corn relish concoction that definitely increased the pleasure of the dish. As usual with Rest. Week restaurants the desserts were exceptionally good.

The atmosphere is extremely sophisticated without being pretentious - classy yet laid back. They do not offer a ton of vegetarian options, but the options they have are delicious and the service is excellent. Places like this are really elevating the east village food scene.

Great atmosphere in a cool east village location. Innovative small plates menu. Highlights were bone marrow which included a sherry luge shot which highlighted the delicious marrow flavor! The blue cheese cheesecake which we were told was an old family recipe was super delicious. Have had the 8 course tasting menu in the past, which was also fabulous.

We were looking forward to the restaurant's execution of the small plates concept however among the four of us, three selections each, there were only two or three dishes that we thought were noteworthy, none that we thought we'd like to have another of. All the dishes seemed 'over-worked', too much going, no clear delicious tastes that is so important in small plate dishes. The staff was very nice but perfunctory. Drink service was notably slow despite it being a very quiet night. Cost aside, we all felt disappointed by the food and overall experience. Again, we'd been looking forward to it but in the end, felt let down.

This past Sunday we had a very good meal at Kingsley. We decided to split 5 plates between the two of us. Three of the dishes were absolutely fabulous: the grilled salad, the foie gras, and the halibut. We found that the hamaumi(sp?) was a little burnt and the razor clams were too dry. But, we must note that the staff were very open to constructive criticism and seem intent on continuing to improve. But still, we really liked Kingsley. All the dishes were well planned and prepared with care and attention. We did not mind that some dishes did not work so well. To us, it is part of the experience. It was nice to feel that we were dining at a restaurant that put a higher value on individuality than on a massed produced aura of sameness. We noticed that a few other tables had ordered the rib eye; which is delivered on a platter to the table. It is a very attractive dish and probably works best as the main course for a party of 4 or 6. We also loved the dessert. The blue cheese cake was very tasty, and the afrogato worked well with caramel ice cream. We will definitely return to Kingsley. It has its issues, but it was our best overall meal during our weekend in the City.

Great experience for a 10th anniversary dinner. Food was fantastic and perfectly cooked. If one has to quibble one could cite the slightly sloppy plating. Portions were modest but the value was solid for the price. Staff are friendly and accommodating. We sat outside by ourselves with an early reservation, and it was lovely. Highly recommended.

The food was delicious and can tell there was time well spent in selecting local ingredients and designing a delicious menu. The server was very knowledgeable about the dishes and helped coached my family to order the proper amount of small plates. Ordered the hits such as grilled lettuce salad, razor clams, hen of the woods, and roast chicken (huge and delsh!).

The meal at Kingsley was nothing short of amazing! My girlfriend and I went in for a date night, and we left happy. The menu is intellectually designed, service was friendly and professional, and wine & cocktails were a delight. They offer a la carte and a tasting. We decided to pick a bunch of small plates and share. Although the meal was amazing the slow cooked duck egg (sous vide I think) with nettle pistou, bone marrow, snapper ceviche, charred onion, short rib, and bleu cheese cheese cake were the stars to us (that’s not to take away from anything else we ate. Our server, and support staff were very helpful with wine pairings. Food was timed well so we could enjoy ourselves while we ate. We saw they have a Sunday pre fixed and brunch so it’s easy to say we will be back more often!

It was our anniversary and so we decided to give it a try. The food was excellent and the service was great as well. They even brought us a dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Plates are smaller, so you need more. It’s not typical appetizer and main. They recommend 3 per person. We got 5 dishes for 2. It was plenty. Guess it depends what you order. Very nice ambiance as well.

I was very disappointed given all the stellar reviews- the food was all lukewarm and mostly mediocre with a few outliers that were either very bad (an asparagus soup that tasted muddy and fishy) or good (a shrimp gnocchi dish). But the portions were so small it was hard to make a real meal. I would have much preferred a real appetizer followed by a real entree. Pretty bad. Also our waiter was at a loss with virtually all of our questions- he really didn’t know the menu.

We returned for brunch this weekend after having a memorable dinner experience about a year ago. My husband and I ordered burgers and asked if we could get a salad instead of the fries, to which our waiter said yes, and asked us whether we'd like it first before the burger. So, when we saw $20 was added to our tab for the 2 salads, we naturally asked about it. The waiter and the manager's answer was that they never substitute salad for fries, and that the waiter could not have said yes to our request. The manager was pretty aggressive in the way she spoke too, though she removed the charge. We didn't need this unpleasant experience on a beautiful weekend day. What's interesting is that we didn't get the fries with our burger (which was very average and small) - so if they didn't get the request for substitution, why did they leave it out?!

BEST STEAK I’ve ever had. Perfectly aged and prepared. Honestly nothing I’ve ever had anywhere else in the world can compare. Love the food and service. The menu is incredibly inventive and absolutely delicious. The bar is great as well, perfect place to meet for a drink.

The ambiance of Kingsley was excellent. Beautiful decor, nice bar and a great outdoor space. The food is good but the portions are tiny and expensive. Tiny portions are only acceptable (in my opinion) if the food is out of this world. In my experience, it was all very average (except for the bone marrow luge, really really good).

Excellent French-inspired contemporary menu in casual dining setting. Six dishes, four were out of the park, two very good. Service a little spotty, good but not outstanding. Not seeing Guide Michelin star but definitely going back for food. Unsolicited suggestion: upgrade to front of house (staff a bit more polish, linens?) would probably get it to "destination dining." Great value. Will recommend, will bring friends.

The hostess was kind and accommodating and so were the waiters. I arrived 15 min before my reservation time, with my son, and the hostess kindly offered to seat us anyways. I originally requested a patio table, but it was too sunny, so they easily re-accommodated us inside. My party (4) arrived at different times, and yet we never felt rushed. Really great experience with good brunch food; highly recommend it.
