My wife and I very much enjoyed our dinners. The clams zuppa, however, had only 3 clams--a meager number.
The food was great. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was very pleasant.
The service is excellent, only to be outdone by the delicious menu.
We visited Chair 5 in mid-October so it was not high season and as a result we enjoyed a quiet, almost private dining experience. The restaurant is located in a boutique hotel and everyone (including the chef) made certain that our experience was enjoyable and that we wanted for nothing. All of the dishes were creative, beautifully presented, and you could taste the care that went into creating each one. The high level of the cuisine and the relaxing atmosphere was a pleasant change from the hustle and bustle of most of the area restaurants which cater to crowds of tourists and beach-goers.
We love Chair 5 and our experience on Thursday evening didn’t change that feeling! From the fun, chic beach decor to the delicious local seafood options - this is a neighborhood gem we’re almost afraid will get too popular. Our server, Taylor, was able to offer lots of suggestions and was lovely and perfect in her attention to our table.
A Narragansett treasure, for sure!
The service, food and atmosphere were all fabulous.
We love the hotel and enjoy the ambience and decor of the restaurant, but thought the food left a bit to be desired. Portion sizes are small, and food is not extremely well seasoned. We have had great experience tho with the servers at dinner time.
Both the server and the manager were awesome. Food and drinks were good and even though it was busy we were sat in a more private area as to keep the noise levels around us down. Excellent time.
Avianna our server was top notch. Cozy and elegant yet inviting ambiance and such an accommodating server. Salmon might be the best I've had. A friend had Parpadalle (sp.?) ratatouille. She said it is one of the best dishes she's ever eaten. Very reasonable prices for the outstanding food and just the right portions.
A little slow from kitchen end - BUT - we attribute that minor detail to the chefs and cooks taking great care to be sure everything that came out was 5+ stars for the palate. And we were in no rush at all. We will be back when we come to RI next summer again. : )
Open table had this place booked so I was happy to find an 8 pm reservation show up. I originally had an 8:30. Actually we could have gone at any time because it turns out the place was empty. I would suggest you call for a reservation. Service was great! Rooftop bar is very nice.
Great good but small portions. Service was very attentive.
I never take the time to write restaurant reviews- this is a first. After reviewing the very limited menu & ordering, it took forever to receive our meal (approx. 25 mind.) One of the 2 Clam chowders ordered as appetizers had no clams (zero). We had the two specials: 1) scallops, & 2) filet mignon. Scallops served in large bowl (why a bowl?) on small dollop of sticky white rice. Food served on only HALF of the bowl. Other half of bowl was empty. Was something missing?
Filet mignon - ordered medium. One-quarter of filet was medium. Rest of filet was totally raw. How someone can achieve that on a grill is beyond me. What an awful dining experience. There were only 2 other parties having dinner in the entire place so no excuse. Also: we’re each given 1 piece of bread & dipping oil. The minute the 1 piece of bread was eaten, server took away the oil- never asked if we wanted more bread.
The staff needs a bit of training Everything else was good
Food quality was great. Fresh pasta was delightful. The signature chicken and fish entries are great.
Beer and cocktails options are good. Wine list could be better.
Chair 5 is a great find. Tucked within the Break Hotel, the ambiance lends itself to a casual, beach themed dining experience. My husband and I have been three times in the last 4 months and each time, the signature cocktails and special entrees have not disappointed. I had the hanger steak special and it was delicious, the meat was tender and the fresh greens served alongside were the perfect accoutrement. My husband enjoyed the fish tacos and the teenage boys devoured the fresh fried chicken. We would highly recommend this restaurant as it has yet to be discovered and therefore is not as crowded as The Coast Guard House and Spain but offers a great menu, small venue and an intimate, casual setting.
Very small portions for the price
The location is excellent. We sat outdoors by the pool, which was very comfortable and quiet. The staff were friendly and took good care of us despite being the only people out near the pool. I ordered the scallops, which were very good. My friend ordered the fish tacos, which weren't as good. The upstairs outdoor space was completely full, but looked like a great place to have a drink and a light meal.
We had friends visiting from out-of-town. It was the Sat after the 4th. They had only fixed menu with 4 entrees! They did accommodate with allowing scallops only, but I was very disturbed. Food was just OK. I had halibut that was cut up in a bowl - and over-cooked. Will never go again or recommend it.
Chef quit, no menu to choose from , wine list sucked stay away unless you are a firemen, we left
Beautiful setting. We ate at the bar and Brian the bar tender was fabulous. Very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the muscles for in appetizer and they were in this amazing sauce. I got the burger and it was one if the best burgers I ever had. Locally sourced beef. After we went up to the roof top bar that overlooked the ocean for after dinner drinks. Great evening in Narragansett. Can't wait to go back.
Absolutely horribles service. Food was ok but the service was so bad the table next to us became our friends so we could laugh about it
After a moment to calm down and process how I just lost $150 I think they deserve a full description of my night.
Overall, Disappointing. Don't get me wrong, the food was really pretty good, but I would never recommend this establishment. The service had much to be desired. All staff that we encountered were very friendly, however many just very slow and inept. From the beginning, there was no hostess present. We waited quite awhile and went looking for one. Once sitting, easily six minutes went by before we were greeted. The server disappeared at length on another occasion and was no where in sight. We were offered bread when our first appetizer arrived. It came after we had finished the first, ordered and ate the second and had inquired and or was promised it three times . Entrees were also promised multiple times, that they would be out within three minutes. An additional ten or fifteen minutes after the time that they were already late to get there, they finally arrived. I was really intrigued and excited about the chicharrones on my fish taco but unfortunately, they were missing. Dessert was delivered to our table and to the table next to ours, without spoons. This to me is bad service. Once ordered and put in, spoons should be delivered. All in all, not an experience I would ever seek out again. Though the food was good, it is not with the lack of service. It really is unfortunate since they were all nice and pleasant and the food tasty. They just need better training and to have some sense of urgency and the ability to expect the basic needs of the customers. What would have made some difference to me is if they were busy. I would have pardoned some of the flaws or lack of good service but it was quiet. They just really didn't seem to have experience or know what they were doing.
Went for my birthday with family everything we ordered was out including potato chips! We ended up eating hot dogs and a sandwich just to be able to eat something. 😢
Amazing food as always! Great service and friendly staff!
My husband and I stayed at the break for our anniversary. The hotel is adorable and clean. We chose Chair 5 for dinner after reading the reviews. We usually do not dine in the restaurant in our hotel. It was not a busy night as it was the middle of the week. We enjoyed cocktails on the rooftop before moving down to the dining room. The decor was very pretty with simple daisies on the table and blue and green beach colors. Out table overlooked the pool. The service was great. Our dinners and appetizer were delicious. We will definitely be back again.
Vacation! Lovely service, relaxed and elegant; delicious!
Great food, service, value, and atmosphere! Location is perfect.
Love this spot and have been several times in the past... Ambiance has always been fun and coastal - but food has been "spotty" in the past. Not anymore - delicious local food showcased at its best. Service was also fabulous - would highly recommend for a Narragansett treat!
Everything was great, except for the chicken I ordered......I cant handle spicy food to well and it was pretty hot AND not mentioned on the menu. I would advise stating if spicy or not, fyi.
Breakfast was creative, many choices and outstanding
Always enjoyable, super lovely decor. Interesting menu choices, fresh and well prepared. It's good for a bite or to linger. Beware the chocolate chip cookies though, they tend to be overbaked :(
Interesting but limited menu for brunch. Food was delicious. Not a quick place but I believe it was not meant to be. Liked very much
Great food, loved the scallop special “bibimbop” style and our waitress was very informative and attentive.
We were very disappointed and would not return. We were the only couple in the dining room, 4 oz of lobster meat for $22 is ashame. Other dining for same price or less give generous portions. Menu is very limited. Not returning.
Coast Guard has a view this place has nothing.
Appetizers- the kale ceaser was delicious, just enough dressing. Oysters - perfect. Main meals-I had the salmon, the portion was small but the overall taste of the dish made up for it, It was cooked perfectly. If you are a salmon lover I would definately recommend this dish. Just be aware you will have room for desert. My company had a scallop special which was amazing. The main dishes were put together in a creative way and different from another very popular seafood restaurant which has not changed thier menu in years. Desert- Pistascshio Creme-Brule; all I can say is Oh My! Another plus is the ability to make dinner reservations, as the summer season revs up the ability to make dinner reservations is a huge plus! Over all excellent seafood entrees and a fantastic dinner out- a little pricey for portion size but you soon forget all about that after your first bite!
Terrible service. Reason to believe waiter was the problem rather than the bartender or the kitchen. One of our guests was through with his meal and still waiting for his glass of wine only to find it waiting on the bar with the bartender. For the poor service, the price was far excessive. Even for outstanding service, the price was high. Will not return to dine here.
Good food and service at reasonable prices. Located in the quiet and upscale Narraganset community.
If you've never been, with a visit.
Will be nice in warmer weather.
The restaurant is beautiful but extremely noisy . My friend and I had to yell at each other. The food was well prepared and tasty but very small portions, our salmon dinners looked like appetizers, even the dessert was small . I was still hungry when I got home . Too bad because it is pretty but I won’t be going back any time soon .
a Very enjoyable evening at Chair 5. Excellent service and a creative menu. I had the special with kim chi and they were very amenable to substituting salmon for scallops. Very nice.
