IN LIGHT OF COVID-19 AND FOR PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES, THE VALLEY KITCHEN IS OFFERING INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SEATING. AS WE ALL KNOW, MONTEREY COUNTY IS A BEAUTIFUL BUT CHILLY PLACE, WE DO RECOMMEND BRINGING A SWEATER AND DRESSING IN LAYERS FOR OUTDOOR DINING. Also due to Covid-19 Valley Kitchen is not accepting cash payments at the moment. -- The Valley Kitchen showcases the natural bounty of California's Central Coast; a region renowned for its seafood, vegetables, and meat and game. The menu highlights cuisine that is ingredient driven and seasonal, focusing on rustic presentations that emphasize bright flavors in harmony with the warm, beautiful setting of the valley.

We have had great meals for years, but this time it really missed the mark. The menu isn’t varied enough. The short rib didn’t fall off the bone. And the vegetables on the side were super salty. There are fewer and fewer fine dining restaurants in the valley now, but I’d probably rather cook at home than go back to Valley Kitchen anytime soon.

The food & service was good. However, after requesting the dinner tab, we waited 20 min, then left the table to pay at the reservation desk.

The service here can be just great - Carly, Angela, and Chef Nelson made our dinners and breakfasts so enjoyable. Yes, the costs are high, since this is a resort, but I would argue that the ambience (outside with the pups, beautiful view of the valley, space heaters when necessary) and service and food quality justify it. Also, eating products from on site (goat cheese, lavender infusions, honey, Pinot Reserve) is amazing - terroir indeed! We loved the granola and think they should sell it in the Market. My only quibble is the classic rock playlist that seemed to be on loop through the week - if you are an Eagles/Fleetwood Mac/Tom Petty fan then you are in luck! (we are fortunately). Take It Easy!

Having eaton at Valley Kitchen several months ago and having loved everything, especially the food, you might imagine how deeply disappointed we were with our recent dining experience on 7/22/22. The menu had changed drastically, none of the delicious food remained. The food we ordered was not nearly as tasty as previously. 2 of us had the halibut and it certainly did not live up to the4 exorbitant pricing. Our waiter overcharged us for the wine, and had to redo our bill. All in all, not an experience that fits in with the resort's reputation nor with the pricing.

They offer a limited selection of food and my meal (chicken) had different ingredients than described. And the green salsa not only looked like poison - it also tasted awful and should not be on the plate. But what really disappointed us was when we saw people at the table next to us had a delicious looking burger - but this was not on the menu. We asked the server about it - and he said these are guests of the hotel and it is from the in room dining menu. If this is the case they should serve it also in room and not at the restaurant where you only can select between expensive and not very creative dishes. The place is lovely . And like these days everywhere: service needs improvement and food is very expensive for what you get.

Late lunch (2pm) for 6 outside. Varied menu of sandwiches. Salads an two entrees. We tried all and found them fresh and well prepared at affordable prices for Carmel Valley. In future would come earlier because of staff transitions mid-afternoon resulting in somewhat slower service but otherwise service very good. Easy p arking, breakfast, lunch and dinner with easy OpenTable reservation system. As a local this is one of the two best restaurants in the Valley.

Five of us sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance. Service was great but ribeye steak at $58 was overcooked the first time. They were quick to start again and it was perfectly medium rare, however tough and not seasoned well. They remedied this time by taking it off the check. My friends had Halibut that was dry but very tasty. We're locals but won't be back soon

This used to be a go to place for us in Carmel Valley. Gorgeous atmosphere with spectacular views, friendly guests. Now with small, lower quality entrees over $50 ea. and few smaller choices (Used to love the crab cakes), we felt ripped off.

Our waitress, Alyssa was great. Friendly and attentive, as was Harlan the manager. Wine was great but food is disappointing. I hate to use the word bland for a dining experience but that describes the chicken I had and it was extremely dry. My wife’s pork chop was moist but tough and very little seasoning if any at all. For the price of the food you should expect to be wowed and the best description is “meh”.

Thoroughly underwhelming. Based on recent reviews we came with low expectations. We should have set the bar even lower. Other than the nice setting there was really nothing to the culinary‘experience’. For the level of hotel unfortunately not up to par, especially the service was surprisingly bad on Mother’s Day when one would expect that all hands would be on deck. Much better options elsewhere , would not return unless management improves menu and service.

Let me preface this by stating that we have dined at the Kitchen more than a dozen times including 5 buffet events. This was simply the worst experience we have had there. The food was like being at Motel 6. Lukewarm bland food. A spartan offering if ever there was. Previously they put out sushi, split crab legs and a wonderful offering. The flourless chocolate cake tasted as if they grabbed a handful of vineyard dirt and made balls of dry tasteless blech. To make it even more sad, the hostess/floor manager was wearing tore up jeans, a spaghetti strap tank top and a hoodie. On Easter Sunday, that was just classless. I suppose that when you remove a great chef like Tim Wood, this is what happens. Very sad.
