What Insiders Are Saying
Come to Kokkari Estiatorio in the Financial District to feel like a big shot. Maybe even throw on a suit and tie. It's a Greek temple of lamb.
Love the Food; love the service; love the ambiance.
Love love love this restaurant. The standards are first class.
Great experience as always. I’ve been dining at Kokkari for many years and the food is always delicious and the service and server recommendations do not disappoint. I dined here to celebrate with my wife for our anniversary. I will continue to give this place my business since they have always kept a great quality of cuisine and service for many years. As long as they keep it up, I will continue to dine here!
Kokkari never disappoints! Grilled Octopus and lamb chops are a must. This time we also enjoyed the butternut squash ravioli which was spectacular. Always one of the best experiences in the city.
Excellent food and fantastic service. This is definitely a place to come to celebrate.
Kokkari is always a must try in San Francisco.
Just three things:
Reservations were hard to get.
The service was phenomenal.
We absolutely loved this place.
Kokkari has become more and more difficult to get into over the years. It is hugely popular and I make my reservations a month in advance. We got there late Thursday night (8:30) and still had to wait about 20 minutes. They recognized that (we had just flown in from the East Coast), apologized graciously, and gave us a lovely complimentary starter platter as an appreciation. The food itself was, as usual, excellent. I had a whole sole, grilled to perfection (not easy to do) and very flavorful. I would say it rouse to my top rating (from fair, to good, to very good, to excellent, to yummific). It was yummific. My 3 colleagues had the goat stew. They liked it but didn't rave. We all raved about the started: lamb meat balls, calamari, and an excellent veggie dish or two (one containing a yummy eggplant. We did not do desert as we were all stuffed and by the time we were finished with the meal, it was about 2 a.m. our time. The service as also excellent. So, all in all, a fine dinning experience, in both meanings of the term. My only complaint is noise level. It is WAY too noisy for someone getting to be elderly, like me.
Outstanding Greek salad and grilled octopus . The bread is dangerously good , the wine by the glass selection broad enough . There is also good people watching , Celebrity watching here but everyone is quite low key about it . I will definitely return .
Professional yet warm service, consistently delicious food prepared simply but perfectly, with great ingredients in generous serving sizes. My favorites are the fish any way, the ribeye and the ice cream sundae.
Great ambiance. Superior service. Whole fish, lamb chops. Lamb shank, octopus, zuccini cakes, beans all great.
Our waiter lied to us as to what certain items translated to on the menu. I ended up googling it and the items were not what he said they were. Also, he described the specials wrong to us. He barely checked in on us and had to ask other people for items or questions. Our wine was very warm too! All and all it was not a great experience. I have visited Kokkari many times prior and this time it was just awful. I don’t think we will be returning or at least until something changes. Disappointed.
Kokkari is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, but my visit this time wasn't wonderful as our waiter was not as attentive as we'd like.
Fantastic food at a decent price for fine dining. Greek cuisine is about the community and the ingredients so should be experienced for its Mediterranean flavors. As a pescatarian (fish, but not flesh), every course has wonderful options. The desserts are incredible, and nothing beats a Greek coffee at the end of dinner! We arrived an hour ahead of our reservation (forgot about daylight saving ending), but managed to be seated anyway! A wonderful 16-year anniversary spent at Kokkari!
My husband and I love to come for the fresh flavors. I live for the rib eye steak 🥩 Most importantly, the atmosphere is perfect and the waiters have a great vibe
This was my second time at kokkari and my wife’s 4th time I think. This is definitely one of the very best restaurants in the city. We had exceptional service on this most recent visit, including a perfectly paced meal and some really fantastic recommendations. Greay for special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries.
Best restaurant in San Fran
Kokkari never disappoints. Truly an exceptional dining experience. Superb food/ the lamb chops are without doubt the finest available anywhere; the service impeccable and the ambience warm and lush. The absolute perfect place for a date.
A very well run kitchen and floor staff. I would go as far as to say one of the very best in SF. The food, straight forward not risk taking cuisine but high quality, well made and in the end satisfying meals. Will return and recommend.
Thank you for a wonderful meal. The food was outstanding and the service was impecable.
Great food, varied menu with unique twists on Greek quisine, would definitely go back
A great spot for lunch or dinner. Hostess, Alison, is delightful.
Best lamb chops in the city
Fantastic and always the absolute BEST lunch or dinner downtown San Francisco.
Greatest food and service anywhere!
Great service, nice ambiance.. the food was amazing..
Just love this place, always fabulous food, friendly service, and the staff are so accommodating.
My only hesitation this visit was that we were accosted by three very drunk patrons in the bar areavwhile trying to order a drink (had to squeeze in between a very drunk couple who had spread across a section of the bar that could have accommodated four people allbeit tightly) as we waited for our table.
The bar is very small and tightly placed against the corner wall. You can spill, and by that I mean stand, into the dining area before 5:30pm because they don’t seat patrons until then. However, it did not help in this case because these men had (as they so aggressively pointed out to us) been waited for over an hour to sit at the bar.
Everything was perfect - bar scene before our seating, bartenders, hostess, and especially our waiter. Food was mouthwatering and such a beautiful room. Thank you to all!
One of the best restaurants!!! The ambiance, the service, the food, the beverages are beyond spectacular. It’s a must try and then will become a favorite!
We had reservations but had to wait against the wall in a very crowded entry 15 minutes. I was a regular for 20 plus years, but moved overseas. Was in SF on business and wanted my favorite lunch special a spicy lasagna with Lamb... no longer serving... , so already disappointed had their fish special / salad 2 deserts for 3 of us and it was 240 including tip... pricey ... service was excellent... but the food just ok... not what I remembered as one of my go to restaurants adjacent to the SF Financial District...
Always amazing. Never had a bad meal here. The seasonal food is delicious.
I love Kokkari! I went there for an early dinner and was seated immediately. Wait staff are very attentive without being intrusive. Loved the grilled octopus and the lamb chops! These are my fave dishes here as well as the branzino. Had the apple crumble for dessert. It was delicious! I had a glass of sav blanc and the bill with tip was $122.00. Great value? Not for my pocketbook. Definitely a special occasion type of place.
We came here for my birthday. The food was fantastic but the service really bad. We had a waiter, an older man, who actually gave us a bad time. He was rushed, distracted and detached. He did not speak to us about wine! Our food came and I had to get the attention of the sommelier to get a bottle of wine. The sommelier was great, but the service for this level of dining was terrible. It put a real damper on our overall experience.
Tig, Sergio and the team were amazing! Food and ambiance were also wonderful! Thank you!
An impeccable lunch with excellent Greek wines. We had the best every service. Our waitress was Anna Rose - flawless service.
Absolutely delicious food, amazing service, and a comfortable but not casual atmosphere.
Great food choices, great service and of course great wine selections.
Must come and try for yourself. Local Gem here in San Francisco.
Started with the Octapodaki tou Yiorgou (grilled octopus with lemon, oregano & olive oil), Garides Skordates (wood-oven roastedprawns with feta butter & Kalamata olives), and Saghanaki (pan fried Kefalotyri with lemon & oregano).
Ordered a bottle of Ghostwriter, Amaya Ridge Pinot, Santa Cruz Mtns. '13 and it was great.
For the mains we got Arnisia Paidakia (grilled lamb chops with lemon-oregano vinaigrette & Kokkari potatoes), and Psari Psito (traditional grilled whole fish with horta & lemon - Sea Bass).
Ended with a Woodford reserve on the rocks.
For dessert we got Galaktoboureko (Semolina custard in filo with blood orange spoon sweet & pistachio ice cream), Yiaourti Granita (Yogurt sorbet with seasonal fruit granita & mint syrup), and a delicious macchiato.
I recommend everything ordered above. It was all amazing.
Made a reservation a month ago. Everything we ate from appetizers to desserts was delicious! Our waiter Raphael was very attentive. He answered all of our questions about the menu. The service was superb! Pricey but it was all worth it!!! Will be back next time we visit San Francisco, for sure!
Very nice! Wonderful!
