Wayward Sons was just good. It was not great nor was it bad, but just good. I would not go back, and if somebody told me they were going there I would say try other places first.

Ate there on Valentines Day. Usually that can be a nightmare, not so much last night -- they did a great job. We had the Waldorf salads, blackenwd red fish, steak tartar, carrots, grits and broccatini as main course. Server was a gentleman who perfotmed a great service. The one minor annoyance was a wobbly table. The prices here are not diner prices so a steady table would have made this experience perfect.

Arrived on Valentines Day at 7:00pm, on time. Our table was not ready so we sent to the bar to wait... where the bartenders managed to ignore us for a good 8-10 minutes. Finally got served, then our table was ready. The remainder of the evening was great. Our table waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, and was happy to help out as well as being engaging. Good atmosphere. Comfortable place.

Seated @ 6:30. Drinks arrived at 7. That was after having to reorder beers as they were out of several. Appetizers took a long time. Became concerned about the food as we had tickets for a concert at 8pm across the street at the Granada. Ordered food. They were out of the entre our friend had salivated for. Food finally arrived at 7:45! We inhaled our dinners. The server was not very attentive. Seemed distracted. After expressing our disappointment, the manager took some off our bills. A shame since our first visit was great. Ironically we learned the restaurant had closed after Valentine's Day. Makes sense why it was a dud.

The food was amazing. We ordered the crispy pole ribs as an appetizer. Ridiculous. Yum, yum, yum. Then we had the Musaka and the Pork Belly with creamed spinach. I would go back again just for the Pork Belly. Wine and device was great as well. We enjoyed hanging out at the bar having drinks before dinner. The atmosphere was inviting.

My wife and I were attracted to Wayward Sons for the interesting brunch menu. The ambiance is pleasing with a cozy comfortable feel and rustic finishes. The restaurant was about 1/3 full between 11 am and noon on a Sunday. Service was polite, attentive, friendly and professional with one consistent irritant throughout our meal:- wait-staff kept coming by and asking us if we were finished with this plate or that plate even when our plates were half covered with food and we were actively eating. I started to hover one hand protectively over my plate any time one of the staff walked near our table. Perhaps they were fully staffed for the big brunch crowd to come later and didn't have enough to do? Excluding this issue, service was four stars. I started with a Bloody Mary. The waiter told me they had a new recipe. It was the best bloody Mary I have had in Dallas with just the right level of spice and tartness. Food came promptly and was delivered hot and fresh. We had the biscuit with chipped beef gravy as an appetizer - it was outstanding though the biscuits were petite. My wife always goes for the chilaquiles on a breakfast menu, and she wasn't disappointed. I had the Eggs Benedict with lamb sausage and perfectly poached eggs on crumpets topped with a dollop of hollandaise. I loved the Benedict. Unfortunately, this lovely preparation came with a side of "bubble and squeak hash browns." I know about "bubble and squeak," but I was still surprised. Big one-inch cubes of orange acorn squash and cabbage strips mixed into my potatoes just didn't work for me. Perhaps Wayward Sons could manage diners' expectations by calling it something besides hash browns, which it isn't. It was certainly more "bubble and squeak" than potato. Overall, we liked Wayward Sons. We do enjoy innovative dishes and plan to return for an evening meal. BTW, we also appreciated the convenience of the complimentary valet, as parking on Greenville Ave is always a challenge.

We had an 8:00 pm reservation and were seated promptly. Our waiter greeted us and took our drink order. We selected appetizers which came out quickly and a beet salad which followed the appetizers. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. An hour and a half into the meal we finally asked where our entrees were. The waiter inquired and said that there were a lot of tables ahead of ours and apologized. Another 10 minutes passed and we asked for the manager. When she came over, she was empty handed, and when asked where our entrees were as we had been sitting for an hour between courses, her response was this: "your ticket has only been in for 30 minutes". This, of course, was untrue, and a ridiculous answer. We will not be returning.

Arrived at 6:30pm, with only four or five tops occupied by other patrons. Noise level was rather high to start and only got worse. Server was unable to list the "seasonal" beers on tap and could only tell us what they no longer had available. Same with wine... after selecting a wine prior to ordering our mains, after an average "Buffalo Duck Wing" appetizer (heavy on the sauce, light on actual duck), we were again told that they were out, but had another vineyard's bottle (same varietal) at a slightly higher price (I said, "do it"). Mains were served, never saw the bottle of wine. Our pre-dinner drink flutes sat on the table the entire meal and we didn't even get a water refill. The food was average and the overall experience did not live up to Leslie Brenner's "best new restaurants". Floor manager didn't seem too concerned by our criticisms and made no offer to "make amends". I would note that I wasn't looking for her to comp us or go overboard, but the thought would have been nice. Having just had the tasting menu at FT33 two nights before and dinner at our neighborhood favorite, Mot Hai Ba (where the chef gave my girlfriend an orchid for her birthday... that was unexpected!), we felt pretty let down. I don't see this being much of a "destination" (or for that matter a "Chili's-grade) restaurant for very long without a lot of attention to detail.

Came here based on recent press and were not disappointed. The only surprise was that it was not more crowded. Had reservation for 2 on a Friday night and last minute a friend joined us and we were able to easily change to a table for 4. Had a couple of appetizers, which were very good (crispy ribs and trout dip). Drinks were very good. Wine was very good. Main dishes were very good, wife had the eggplant moussaka, which she loved. I had the bbq goat shoulder-I was expecting something like cabrito, but instead was more like pulled pork, but still good. Creamed spinach side was good, not super creamy/cheesy, mostly spinach. We will be back when we are in the area.

We went on a Sunday night for family dinner, table for 9 people, and the service was surprisingly poor. For a restaurant with so much potential and decent food, we were disappointed by our waitress. The waitress was not very attentive in a restaurant that was fairly empty on a Sunday night. However, the other assistants who were refilling water glasses and removing empty dishes were attentive, so service was not completely zero. Not sure we would go back due to the service.

Dinner for 2 at 6pm. It was that or 9pm. First time visit. Shared a cheese stuffed mushroom appetizer. Terrific. We both ordered salads--one hot the other cold--both terrific again. Main courses followed--one Redfish and one Pork Jowl--more of the same. We couldn't have been more delighted with the whole experience. To top it off, this was not our initial first choice to dine at on Saturday, we just couldn't get a reservation at the "other" restaurant, which will now lose our business to Wayward Sons.

Start with the Wayward Son cocktail. It is perfect for a palate that prefers a savory rather than sugary experience. It pairs perfectly with the VEGAN beet chili with cashew creme and jalapeño cornbread. It's amazing what you can do with cashews! The spaghetti squash and spinach side dishes are also fantastic. Anyone can make bacon taste good. Chef Graham Dodds makes vegetables taste good! I even ate my greens! I saw reviews regarding slow service, so I made my pre-show reservation 30 min earlier than I usually do just in case, but we finished with an hour to spare. We used the extra time to have coffee and dessert.

We enjoyed Wayward Son's more than anticipated, after reading the rather edgy menu. Crispy Pork ribs are deep fried and pretty good, but don't expect any BBQ or smoke flavor. Chow chow accompaniment amde with red tomatoes was very tasty but appaloosa beans were reminiscent of totally tasteless refried beans. Special flatbread (which was the size of a large pizza) with smoked lamb brisket was good, not lamby, but I am unsure I could have eaten the Lamb Brisket as an entire entree. Chicken and dumplings would have been excellent if they had not added tarragon that permeated the dish. Grapefruit glazed carrots were less sweet than orange glazed carrots usually are, and were a nice twist on a classic. Early Autumn Sangria was an interesting take, frozen red wine/pulpy pineapple cube, with vodka, juice, agave poured over it. The liquid was long gone before the wine cube melted, but the flavors were good and it would be especially refreshing on a hot day. Our server was attentive and helpful with menu explanations. Hard wooden chairs might be a complaint. An overall good experience.

The decor was great, but the service was not good. We were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant with people and the waiter was very, very slow. Portion size was pretty small considering the price, and that wasn't just my meal. The mussels we had for the appetizer were pretty good, but spicy. I had the chocolate dish for dessert and it was really awful. Some weird spice to it that tasted of chilies. We will not be returning.

My wife and I love trying new restaurants, as do our friends so we have been to a number of restaurants in Dallas. In Dallas, we've been to the local hole in the wall places like Taqueria Pinocho's to Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse (for our anniversary). We just love culinary experiences and I can honestly say that hands down Wayward Sons has been one of the best thus far. We have frequently drove by and wondered about it because it is always busy, but never stopped because we thought it might be too expensive. The food was incredible, service was really good and we loved the ambience. I had the Confit Pork Jowl and my wife had the BBQ Pork Shoulder. Our friends actually ordered the same. We shared 2 appetizers, the steak tartare and the baked goat cheese ricotta. We also shared 2 side orders, the sweet potato puree and the grits. There was not one complaint, everything was delicious! Even as good as the food was the price was perfect. Main dishes ranged from $20-$35, appetizers ranged from $10-$20 and side dishes were a la carte averaging $8-$9. I would recommend Wayward Sons without hesitation. We're looking forward to going back. It is definitely one of our new favorites in Dallas.

Came for my birthday dinner and had confirmed reservations for 6:30. When we arrived we were told that we would have to wait twenty minutes or so for our reservation which was shocking to me. Not at any other popular place in dallas have I ever experienced that . But.. Willie Nelson was playing a concert across at the Granada and it was obvious the restaurant overbooked and/or let in groups without reservations in the 5:30 to 6:15 range thinking they could make it work and obviously had not given tables a hard stop at a certain time to accommodate reserved tables. The staff and the kitchen were overwhelmed in their goal to overextend themselves . I had a choice , wait or leave and we decided to wait. The front door hostess was completely overwhelmed and not very communicative but there was another hostess trying her best to keep us up to date on the table wait and she offered a table that was either going to be too big or too small for our party and just all around awkward for the three of us. Still we waited. Finally seated, we got our drinks and placed orders and our waitress was very good but it took forever to get our food and by the time it got there we weren't even in the mood to eat. But that was not the fault of the waitstaff because the kitchen just could not keep up. I come from a family of restaurant owners back in NY and I saw those guys doing their best . On to the food which was inventive , fun, fresh and a delight to the eye as well as the tastebuds. I wish I could have enjoyed it more , I wish it wasn't so off the charts crazy in there and I observed others waiting on their reservations and food as well. Without asking or complaining they did the right thing by us by comping some of our meal, but probably should have comped the whole thing. Thank goodness I wasn't a restaurant reviewer because no matter how good the food the rest of it was wrong. It's worth another try on a night when the Granada has a less popular show .

Stopped in at Wayward prior to the Willie Nelson concert @ Granada Theater (right across the street). LOVE the cocktail menu, smoked trout dip and salads if you want a quick bite or expand your palette if you have more time and order everything! Even when the restaurant is crowded, acoustics are perfect for conversations. Local ingredients perfectly prepared. One of our favorite neighborhood haunts.
