We made a reservation on 10/29 for 10/29 at 10:30 pm (the restaurant was supposed to close at Midnight) which was confirmed but when we arrived the door was locked and they were closed.

We love this walking-distance gem of a restaurant! The list of tacos is expansive and the chef uses an array of ingredients that surprised and pleased all the varied tastes at the table. Love the guacamole and the queso fundido is a decadent treat. The service is enthusiastic, but not overly hovering. We will return often and definitely bring guests there!

Great new addition to Albany Park! Just the right amount of hip vibe and foodie menu with a balance of neighborhood friendliness and traditional Mexican tastes. Delicious cocktails and a lovely sidewalk patio round out the experience.

Been here a couple time now. Love it. Great spin on Mexican not to mention delish fancy cocktails. My only critique is that we probably would have ordered another drink if the server would have asked us but instead brought the check.

All the food was tasty! Guacamoles were fantastic, don't let the Habanero in one scare you off. Delicious! The cocktails were great; I had one with watermelon in it, refreshing. The tacos were made with fresh, handmade tortillas with a variety of fillings. We sat on the patio where we caught a nice breeze. Sides are tasty. Ceviche was overpriced.

The food was great at Rojo. I think they just need to work on timing of service. Our app and food came out almost immediately and at the same time. They should space it out so they can capitalize on drink sales. I could have easily ordered two more drinks with my meal. My husband and I ended up only having one drink a piece. Fastest sit down meal I've ever had.

My first trip to Rojo Gusando and not disappointed. Food was creative and very tasty. Tacos clearly latin in ingredients, but also some unusual combos - really liked the shrimp and Asian curry taco. Dessert was a chocoholic feast. Won't spoil the surprise for you. Go and find out. Good for a little appetite or one needing to be well fed. Enjoyed my drink from the list of tequila and mezcal based drinks - also creative combos. Inside was quite noisy (for the over 50 crowd at least), but we had a pleasant outdoor table so we could hear one another. Service was very friendly and reasonably attentive. Didn't care for the long recitation from the waiter though that occurred at the beginning of the meal. He was anxious to make sure we knew what everything was. While this can be helpful, I felt like I was getting information overload without having an opportunity to leisurely peruse the menu. I also didn't need to have everything explained to me. Minor issue though. I will return soon.

Well to start with I made a reservation for 4 at 6:30, upon arrival I checked in with the hostess and sat at the bar. I watched many groups come in and be seated without a reservation and when it came time for us to be seated we were put at the only remaining table which was right in front of the side door that people were going I and out of throughout our meal. I also was unaware they would be serving a limited menu, which was one appetizer, 4-5 varieties or tacos and a few side dishes. I was thoroughly disappointed as part to the reason I chose this place was the menu I viewed on line. When I asked our waiter informed me it was a special cinco de mayo menu, which is fine on cinco de mayo not siete de mayo. I also don't expect to dine out and have watered down drinks served to me a plastic cup, and food served on cardboard with plastic silverware. I understand with a tent outdoors and live music using said material outside, but indoors is another thing. this place came highly recommended, but after our first experience I'm not sure I would return. Left kind of hungry and rather disappointed.

Made reservations for 5 de Mayo. Arrived 10 minutes prior to reservation and was told they were running behind which was okay. We left our number for them to call us and made our way to the outdoor area where they were hosting live music to celebrate 5 de Mayo. After hanging out there for a bit, we made our way to the bar and eventually found some seats. We ended up orderingapps there because we were hungry and it was now almost 9pm. Eventually, we ended up ordering our meal there since it became apparent they were not going to call anytime soon. The food was good and the bartender was friendly, but those were the only positives. Another patron, made a scene at the bar because apparently this too happened to him except he never ended up receiving his food!! I understand it was a busy day, but why take reservations if you know you're gonna be slammed? We left and they never called or apologized. Not sure if we would go back despite the good food.

We received a very friendly welcome as we came through the door, when we chose a drink at the bar and when we were seated. The drinks were good, but pretty sweet (Oaxaca mule, mezcalita and margaritas). The food was excellent- we had tacos, the three salsas and a reg guacamole with churros for dessert. The only negative were the chairs- definitely made for those with very narrow bottoms!

The food was amazing. I would recommend ordering the small tray if this your first time. It came with six tacos, 1 tamale, 2 sides, 2 salsas, and guac. It also came with one more food item i just can't remember what it was right now. It is a great way to try the variety of foods this place has to offer. I do plan on returning.

Food was subpar. I had the chicken and waffles. Waffles lacked that sweet waffle flavor. Chicken was too too dry and full of breading. Lacked true robust flavor. I probably wouldnt go back for brunch. Drinks were average at best

Place had a nice vibe, although fairly empty on a Saturday night. Music was way too loud, especially since it was empty. Beer selection was great. Waiter was overly attentive to the point of annoying, especially after I explained we were going to hang out with drinks before we ordered. Food was completely underwhelming - under seasoned and did not come close to the exciting and delicious menu descriptions. Prices seemed fair until the bill came and none of us were satiated for the amount we paid. So sorry because I really was looking forward to a great neighborhood spot. Should've listened to Mike Sula from "The Reader".

This was one of the best meals I have ever had. We got the small platter, which was a perfect large meal for 2. It's chef's choice, so you get to try nearly all of the delicious food the restaurant has to offer, plus you don't have to make the tough decisions! 3/6 tacos were vegetarian too, which was nice. The cocktails are amazing, our waitress was wonderful, and it's surprisingly affordable! Highly recommend.

The Tamal was average at best, would not order again. The quacamole was average. The tacos were for the most part excellent. I would not order the chicken taco again, was tasteless. The shrimp curry was great as was the chorizo and veggie taco. Located in Albany Park the neighborhood is going through transition, and this is one of a few new good ethnic restaurants in the area.

We were so happy to discover Rojo Gusano! We've long envied the many choices for high quality, adventurous Mexican street food in Wicker Park, and are so glad to welcome a similar place to the northwest side. Things started out strong with extremely flavorful drinks - both the Margarita and the Mojito were tasty and skillfully prepared. And the food was great! We enjoyed the ceviche, a mix of tacos, empanadas, and sweet plantains, but our favorite may have been the drunken beans - they were so delicious that we thought of getting another order to take home. Everything was fresh and high quality, bursting with flavor, and very well prepared. We were tempted by the desserts, but were too full to try them - we'll definitely give them a shot next time, though -- and we'll be back very soon.

Took my family on a Monday night for dinner. Rojo Gusano has great Mexican food with a twist. We ordered three different types of Guacamole and they were all delicious. the tacos were made with home made tortillas-sooo good!! Also the Mexican hot chocolate and the chocolate tamales were fabulous. Since it was a Monday we did not order drinks but drink the menu looks great, with different types of mescal, and tequilas. I am looking forward to going on the weekend to try them out! Also fantastic and friendly service. I highly recommend Rojo Gusano.

I went with coworkers for a quick happy hour. We ended up staying for three hours. The tacos were great and inventive. The veggie tacos were stand out. We got the chef choice taco tray which was plenty of food for four. We started out with Mezcalitas around the table and kept them coming. Delish. Serving was good. The restaurant was a nice place to hang out. Great vibe. I will be back.
