What Insiders Are Saying
Kinship does fancy-ish American food in Shaw. Go for a special occasion, and get the lobster French toast.
Another spectacular meal from Eric Ziebold
This was our first time eating at Kinship and it did not disappoint! The creativity of the dishes on the menu is very impressive. The staff was kind, attentive, and very knowledgeable on the menu and able to make great recommendations. Dessert was one of the more unique lists with alternative takes on traditional options. Their specialty cocktail list also offered their own personal blends of traditional favorites. Our server and the sommelier made a great recommendation for a VA wine to pair with our entrees. Thanks for the introduction to this surprising wine!
Celebrated our anniversary. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic.
Service and food outstanding!
Two primary concerns: 1. The food is not as advertised. My wife and I ordered the same dish that was supposed to have lobster meat and lobster mushrooms, with sugar toads. Sounded wonderful. Sugar toads served on a goat cheese tart with no lobster at all or mushrooms. Food was on the skimpy and pedestrian side and not as fresh as it could be.
2. We felt rushed during the whole dinner. Whisked off to the table, barely sat down and they were bringing out the appetizers.
Ambiance was great, service was a little hit or miss, even if they were not responsible for the communication gap with the kitchen on the specials.
Superb creative and delicious food served beautifully. I was blown away by the sweetbreads which were the best I have ever had.
One must order the Roast Chicken...the best I have ever had...and I do cook it often...The Beets were wonderful as was the Pumpkin soup...We divided the appetizers and the kitchen split the soup for us....The peanut brittle at the end with the hammer is a wonderful touch..The wines were perfectly matched to the food we ate....All in all a wonderful experience....They even had Pashimas if you felt chilled in the dining room...Unbelievable service..
Food was interesting and very well prepared. Service was attentive and timely. Atmosphere is refined and we were able to carry on conversation. Good wine list but pricey. Overall would recommend for those planning a special meal.
Sunchokes were yummy! Cod dish was delicate and very flavorful. Duck was done in a lovely manner and frozen sweet potato desert was a very nice treat.
Wow. Had no expectations, was blown away by creativity. Food was rich and delicious.
As always, Kinship shined. Unique food preparation--we had the venison which was cooked perfectly and very tender.
Our party of four was seated in a comfortable booth offering privacy. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and wine offerings. Service was unobtrusive and courses were nicely timed so we didn’t feel rushed. Excellent variety of dinner selections, beautifully prepared and presented. A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.
Never disappoints. Everything was perfect -- food, wine and service.
Fabulous food and fabulous service
It was my wife's birthday.....the décor is very nice, clean but not sterile, acoustics were very good, the service was attentive without fawning.. the wine list was deep but pretty pricey....the food was delicious, interesting menu and artfully presented....for us this would be a special occasion place but it's definitely on the keepers list.
One of the best meals I've ever had in DC was from Chef Eric Ziebold at CityZen. I was extremely excited when I heard he was opening Kinship. As usual, the food did not disappoint. Our meal was fantastic - lobster french toast and roasted chicken were to die for. It was the service that was lacking. When we walked in to check in for our reservation, the host did not even look at us one time. He was very curt, asked if we had a reservation (we did) and told us we were early (we were aware, we intended to have a drink at the bar). Again, not a glance through this whole exchange. We then went to the bar at which point we grab one of the four empty tables unaware that the tables were food only. Another gentleman, host/manager type, came over and rudely told us we couldn't sit there for which we apologized and we went to the bar to have a pre-dinner drink. The vibe of Kinship is laidback but the attitude of the "welcome" staff was extremely rude and pretentious. This attitude did not carry over to the bartenders who were excellent but it did detract from our initial impression. I get it, it's DC but your name is Kinship for goodness sake...a little politeness can go a long way as does making your customers feel welcomed.
Cozy ambiance where you can have a quiet conversation with incredibly delicious food!
From the ambiance to the candy bar our experience was second to none. Would highly recommend people visit kinship while in DC!
Kinship has a wonderful approach to food. Portions and plating are thoughtful. Everything was cooked perfectly. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable. Slightly disappointed in the candy bar but otherwise it was near perfection. Would happily return.
Excellent dinner and very attentive service. Look forward to coming again.
Absolutely gorgeous setting-especially the waiting area and bar!-and the food was creative and delicious. The lobster French toast and pommes Anna were my favorites. Service was impeccable, and the wine list was great. Would absolutely recommend! Expensive, but worth it for a special occasion.
Kinship was absolutely wonderful. I took my husband there to celebrate his 50th birthday. The food is amazing and it’s a beautiful environment in which you can really connect with the company you’re with.
This restaurant is absolutely incredible. The food was amazing and the prices are not unreasonable. The service was excellent!
Wonderful dinner. attentive staff, very knowledgeable sommelier, incredible taste and presentation.
Excellent across the board!
Really really stellar. Excellent friendly staff. Great food.
Everything is good except the neighbor seat is a little noisy.
Ribeye great as always and tuna for the table was excellent addition. Always top-notch service. One of the best restaurants in the city.
A friend who lives in DC recommended Kinship for celebration meals. It was my birthday and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. The staff is wonderful, the food was fantastic and I can’t wait to go again!
Everything was amazing! We had the caviar, sea urchin ravioli, rock fish and halibut. Every dish was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend the fig sundae for dessert!
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner and They absolutely rolled out the red carpet! The service was outstanding, and we enjoyed speaking to both our waiter and the sommelier. Every dish was absolutely divine. We seriously cannot stop talking about that Kinship Chicken!! We ordered a huge amount of food since we wanted to try everything, but I would say for two people, a appetizer the chicken, and a dessert to share is probably an adequate amount of food for dinner.
Kinship was incredible. Great ambiance and friendly/knowledgeable wait staff.
Amazing display of American Gastronomy with flavors to match!
Had a wonderful meal at Kinship, would highly recommended it if you are looking for a great meal for a special occasion.
Service was knowledgeable but approachable/friendly. Food was expertly prepared with a familial heart. Really good place.
My husband and I were celebrating our 20th Anniversary. The staff was super friendly and wished us a happy anniversary and even had a personalized card at our table. The food was amazing. Portion size just right. Everything we ordered was fantastic. Will definitely go back to try some other dishes.
We had our anniversary dinner and it was a great experience for us. Entries were great and the waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. Would come back again for family gathering or with friends.
The dishes we had at Kinship were absolutely phenomenal. I ordered their lobster french toast, one of their staple dishes and my husband and I ordered the BBQ beef ribeye for two. First of all, I can tell you that the hype around the lobster french toast is real. Omg, one of the best dishes I've ever had. They bring you crusty, delicious bread to dip in the lobster broth which is just tip of the iceberg with the kind of service you get at Kinship. The ribeye was perfectly cooked. It also came with this corn gravy that was just delectable. I've never had anything like it. Our server was also very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about every single item on the menu. She also seemed very genuine about how delicious her recommendations were. We are definitely going back!
Top five meals of my life, simply unforgettable food and service. I could celebrate my birthday there every year!
